Sweet Lucky Girl

For a moment, Ava couldn't find anything suitable to say, she was just gulping and interlocking her fair slender fingers. Her brain turned quickly after a few seconds, and she mumbled out, “I'm sorry,” Freya scoffed scornfully, “You are sorry?” her tone carried a hint of sarcasm as she singled out her arms,

“Ava, you claimed that we are your friends, but then you kept something huge as this from us. Who does that? How could you do that?” her anger skyrocketed, and it was taking all the stability within her to resist herself from yelling.

Raising her head slightly and seeing the reproachful look in her eyes, Ava couldn't help but lower her eyes like a deflated balloon. Caleb, who had stayed silent, spoke up for the second time, “Why didn't you tell us about him, Ava?” he asked carefully, adjusting his glasses and leaning over on the round steel table.

“I thought that if I had told you guys about it, you wouldn't believe me” she explained carefully, her eyes changed from a gentle and warm gaze to being moist. “But why would you think like that? We are your friends, and ought to trust each other” Caleb reprimanded softly, staring at her moist eyes. “When are you guys having the next lecture?” Hazel's sharp voice startled them, but they soon regained their composure. “Oh, Hazel, you're here already?” Freya quizzed, looking at her annoyed face. However, her gaze was solely dwelling on Ava's pale face.

“If you're not having the next lecture soon, then you all should come with me,” she instructed firmly and then turned to walk away immediately.

“She seemed to be upset,” Caleb whispered to Freya, who nodded in agreement as they all strolled out of the cafeteria.

Hazel was already behind the steering wheel by the time they got to where her car was parking. Ava opened the passenger side door and got in, while Caleb and Freya bent and got in the back seat.

Twenty minutes later, they were all in Hazel's apartment, “Explain to me why you didn't tell me about your relationship with Zachary Gonzalez, Ava?” Hazel asked in a deep-voiced and her eyes dazed. Freya and Caleb exchanged a knowing glance, they understand what Hazel meant within a second.

“I thought I was your best friend, I thought I was someone who you could always confide in, but I was wrong about you, Ava” Hazel's anger fizzled as she continued to pace the length of the relatively cozy living room. She had never lost her cool like this as a touch of disappointment flashed across her face.

Freya moved from where she was standing beside Caleb to stand in Hazel's way, “You need to calm down, Hazel, and hear her out first” she persuaded, not liking the depressing atmosphere. She had thought Ava kept it from them alone, she never knew Hazel wasn't aware of it either.

During this whole ordeal, Ava clutched her hands together tightly, as more tears trickled down her face. There were hundreds and thousands of explanations, but she couldn't get them out of her mouth. “Hazel,” she called, her voice throbbing with emotions. However, Hazel had refused to look at her, as though if she took a glance at her face then all anger would evaporate. She kept her head tilted at one side, waiting for Ava's next words. “Remember when I told you Zachary Gonzalez came to my coffee shop, but you didn't believe me” Ava expressed with a big mess in her heart.

Hearing this, Hazel's anger faded for a second as she gradually turned to look at Ava. “I've been meeting him since then, but it was always accidental, believe me,” she continued, tears never stopped rolling down from her cheeks, “He had saved me two times when we met. So, I met him again the last time we went to the nightclub and that was when he asked me to come along with him to a party and I couldn't say no,” Ava concluded, looking everywhere but their faces. Freya and Caleb swapped glances, feeling compassion toward her immediately.

Hazel fixed her eyes on Ava for some time before she was able, to sum up, a few paces to where she was standing. She lifted her face and instantly felt bitter and grieved in her heart as if she had gulped down a cup of broadleaf holly leaf tea mixer with vinegar.

“So you were sincere that day about Zachary's appearance in your coffee shop?” Hazel interrogated, recalling everything she told her in her head. Ava was only able to nod in response, “But you should have at least told me about it again after that day,” Hazel chided, but her voice was soft this time. “I'm so sorry,” Ava burst into another fresh wave of tears. She had thought she would inform them about Zac once she got to school today, it never occurred to her that they would find out before she explained herself. “No, no, it's okay, Ava. I apologize for not believing you either” Hazel mumbled out and gently pulled Ava into her embrace.

In a matter of moments, the ambiance seemed to be cheery now with Ava and Freya sitting on the pink furry carpet, while Caleb sat on the double-sitter couch as they all conversed merrily.

“So, what's up between the two of you now, Ava?” Hazel asked with a bright smile radiating across her face as she walked out of the kitchen, holding a tray in her hands. “Yes, Ava. Has he shoot his shot already?” Freya inputted with a beam.

Ava raised her brows incredulously while her cheeks morphing into a darker shade of red, “Yo, guys! Little fella is in love with the almighty Zachary Gonzalez” Hazel exclaimed in surprise as she crouched next to Ava while dropping the tray which was containing some cookies, “Tell me something, Ava, have you both done the deed?” she beamed with interest and Ava quickly swat her exposed thigh, “Don't be silly, Hazel. There's nothing serious between us” Ava conceded, looking like a well-cooked shrimp.

“Then why wouldn't you just stop blushing?” Caleb spoke up this time as he stooped and grabbed a cookie from the plate and the girls cheered, except for Ava who instantly lowered her head, causing her long hair to cascade forward and cover both sides of her face like a curtain. “So, tell us the truth now” Freya asserted.

“He asked me to pass the night in his place,” Ava began. “Oh my…” Freya broke off when Hazel suddenly clasped her hand over her mouth. “He gave me one of his shirts to wear, and I wore it,” she continued, feeling her heartbeat profusely at just the memory of last night. “He carried me in his chest to the bedroom and lay me on it” completing her words, she kept mute afterward, ignoring the pair of six eyes that were peering into her face for more details, “And we both slept, that's all” she concluded firmly and began to nibble at her lower lip.

“Tell us honestly now, Ava. Did you have sex with him?” Hazel asked blatantly.

“Christ! Hell, no, Hazel. Can't you have a little dignity? How could you say that openly?” Ava questioned, feeling her cheeks warmed up from humiliation.

“What Ava? Sex is not a big deal, is it?” Hazel asked as she looked over at Freya's face, “Yes, Ava. But don't you think having sex with someone you barely know is awry?” Freya tested as she stared at Hazel's face, who in turn shrugged slightly.

It doesn't matter to her anyway. Anytime she felt like getting laid, she definitely would. Regardless of the person, whether she was just meeting him or not. As far as the person also wants her. Moreover, no man in his right senses would refuse Hazel.

“Does that mean you can have sex with me, Freya?” Caleb sneered relentlessly, staring at Freya with pure lust-filled eyes. Freya looked at him with disdain, and he soon composed himself.

“We only kissed, there was no sex!” Ava howled, not quite comfortable with their choice of discussion. “Whoa!” they clapped their hands, “Guys, he hasn't said he wants a relationship,” Ava told them and Hazel scoffed and explained, “Someone like Zachary Gonzalez would never tell you they want a relationship”
Freya nodded, unable to wipe her smile from her face, “But if he eventually asked you to date him, will you accept him?” she interrogated, looking at Ava's face. Ava stared into the void for a few seconds and quickly grabbed her new backpack to save herself from further humiliation, “Here is the new phone he got for me and…” before she could finish her words, Freya had already snatched the phone from her and jumped to her feet to jolly for her friend.

Ava just smiled as she brought out the cash and extended it to the beaming Hazel, “He gave me this too”

Freya stopped dancing at once, “He gave you this much?” her eyes dilated, as though she hadn't seen that amount of cash before in her broad life. “Yes, Freya,” Ava responded, and was taken by surprise at how Freya leaped on her.

“I'm so happy for you, Ava. You're just so lucky” she expressed as tears welled up in her eyes. “Thanks, Freya,” Ava said with a giggle in her voice, and then Freya finally released herself from the embrace. “Congratulations, Ava” Caleb also pronounced, a smile never omitting his thin lips. “Thanks, Caleb,”

Hazel stood up and also hauled Ava to her feet and then let out, “My sweet lucky girl, finally, I would be able to meet Zachary Gonzalez one on one,” she said jokingly and then hugged Ava. “Me too, Hazel” Freya grinned, and they all hugged themselves happily.

“Let's party, guys!” Hazel screeched, holding Ava and twirling around. “Bills on, Ava” Freya put in as she danced crazily around the place.
