Can Such Happen
After saying a few words to the giant man behind the wheel, Ava quickly got down from the car and watched as the car zoomed off. She had made sure the car stopped a few miles to her house. Apparently, she wouldn't like anyone to catch a glimpse of her coming down from a stranger's car. After a few long walks, Ava arrived at her abode. Her eyes searched everywhere for Hazel's car, unable to find it at its designated area, her throat constricted. Clutching her purse with a big mess in her heart, she counted the small staircase, jiggled the doorknob then set her foot inside. Looking straight, Ava was stunned to see Emma standing rooted at the center of the living room, gazing in the entrance direction. Ava stared at Emma and felt like she had fallen into an ice cave, chilling from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. “Where are you coming from, Ava?” asked Emma, amounting her steps to where Ava was, her eyes were deep and dark. Ava stood frozen in place, her palms were wet and sticky with sweat. Mustering a little courage, she raised her head to look at Emma's angry face, “Mom, I promise, I'll explain everything to you. Just allow me to explain myself” Ava choked between her words. Slap! Unable to keep her animosity in check, Emma raised her hand and slapped Ava across her cheek. Stunned, Ava subconsciously touched her face, the area where she was slapped was stinging and there was a buzzing in her ears. “Two years Ava, Charlotte is older than you with two adequate years, and never for once, had she passed a night outside” Emma bellowed, looking down at Ava in disdain.
“Last night was your first time going to a party, and you already prove to everyone how lowly you are. Hazel was so worried about you, thinking she was to be blamed for everything, but little did she know that you're a bitch. A bitch who loves to fuck anything under every man's panties” Emma continued to howl at Ava, who held her cheek in her hand and whimpering softly. During this whole ordeal, Charlotte had a complacent smile on her face as she stood rigid on a staircase. “You're just so shameless. Now go to your room and don't even think of stepping out until I decided” Without being told, Ava understood what Emma had meant by her words. She scrambled past Emma then Charlotte on the stairs to her room. Unlocking her room door, she paced in, shut the door behind her, and broke down in tears. Crouching and hugging her legs to herself, curling up into a ball. Emma's words hurt had torn her heart apart, she wished she could open her mind and see what was in it. She could by no means understand why her own mother would utter such acrimonious words to her.
In Gonzalez corp.
“What do you think about our plans for this project launch?” asked the project lead, standing before everyone in the conference room. The average height man watched as the chairmen and his colleagues whispered to one another. However, he made sure his gaze never fall on the President's seat. “It looks to me like you have a lot planned before your deadline. I would suggest you push your deadline back, so you have time to run a successful advertising campaign” Mr. Robinson Green, one of the largest shareholders in Gonzalez corp. affirmed and suggested. “I respectfully disagree with you there, sir. The priority is to launch before the holidays, so we do not want to move this deadline” The project lead, Adams Hill, contradicted respectfully before stealing a glance at the President who had a cold look all the time. He was sitting in the owner's seat with his back leaned in the chair. His gaze was solely lingering on the projection screen while his fingers were gently on the table rhythmically as if he was thinking about something. Of course, he was thinking about something. Since the meeting had commenced, Zachary Gonzalez's mind had traveled to somewhere he couldn't imagine, he had tried to restrain himself many times, but his unruly mind wouldn't budge. So, he just let his mind be and his gaze on the projection screen, exhibiting what was in his mind, Ava Taylor. “Mr. Gonzalez, how do you think we should move forward with this project? As you know, we are expected to present it to our clients next week” One of the board members spoke out his mind after a long moment of contemplation of words. Staring at his emotionless face for his words, Adams Hills' sweaty hands had gathered in a fist as he stood planted in a spot, waiting for his remark. “It looks like we've run out of time, so I guess we'll finish here” Finishing his few casual words frigidly, he rose to his feet majestically then turned to the door, without waiting for any of their opinions.
Standing at the conference door all the time, Blake Wright suddenly saw a tall man walking in his direction. A deep frown etched on his masculine face as he watched this familiar man approach. No doubt, he knew this man, he had seen him several times with his Boss. Getting to the door, the man didn't say anything to him but stood on the left side of the door, vigilantly. Blake couldn't help but secretly glare at him, 'Not even a Hi' He thought in his mind. However, he could only think about it in his mind, he dared not say a word. He was only an assistant while this huge man was just like his Boss right man. Hearing the creaking sound of the door, Blake soon regained the presence of mind as the door opened and conveyed his icy Boss. Quickly, he held out the door handle, stepping aside for him to pass. The huge man bowed slightly in greeting as soon as he saw him coming out of the conference room. “Did she arrive safely?” He blurted out before he could hold himself back. Raising his head to look at his Boss, stunned, this huge man couldn't help but wonder when his Boss began to look after a lady. However, it seemed he was in a bad mood and couldn't think so much about it, nodding his head twice, “Yes, Boss” Pursuing his lips for two seconds, he continued, “Reid is back, he's waiting for you in the car” Staring at him meaningfully, Zac could effortlessly sense that something was off. Immediately, he looked straight ahead then strode off in the hallway, emanating a powerful aura. Following closely behind him, he abruptly ceased his pace then turned to Blake, “Stay back” His pupils shrank sharply, an endless cold abyss along with it. Nodding his head vigorously, Blake stepped back in a swift, with his head lowered. Slowly lifting his head to watch his receding figure, both his boss and the huge man. Blake inhaled and exhaled sharply, but just when he was about to turn around, he noticed two ladies peeking in the direction of the President from a corner around the hallway.
“How on earth would a man be as handsome as the President, Catherine?” Rose said dreamily, lost staring at Zac's back view, which had faded away since some moment ago. “I don't understand either. I just wish he would notice me someday, that's my only wish” Catherine reacted with a lecherous smile playing around her lips. Hearing these words coming out from Catherine's mouth, Rose felt as if she had been hit by a bolt from the blue. She quickly snatched her gaze from the space she was lost staring at then raised her head to look at Catherine, who was pretty taller than her, “Are you out of your mind? How could you wish the President to notice you, when you know too well that my only prayer is for the President to acknowledge me?” Her cute face was distorted with anger. Catherine's lips widened into an evil smile as she reached out her hand and patted Rose's shoulder, “That means we are both hoping for the same thing, Rose. It's quite simple. Let's see who the President's noticed first among the two of us” Gnashing her teeth, Rose clenched fists. It never crossed her mind that her friend was as well after her wants. “What are you two doing here? Don't you have any work to do?” Hearing Blake's firm voice, they composed their stillness quickly, bowed slightly, then scrambled back to their respective department. Blake shook his head decisively, he'd comprehend the scene that just transpired. However, he knew in his mind that such can never happen. 'Or can our unsociable President someday notice a girl?' He thought in his mind.
Sitting in the passenger seat beside the driver, Zac wasn't saying anything as his face remained expressionless and hard to read. Reid, on the other hand, wasn't sure of how to broach the tragic news. Looking straight out of the windshield, “Where's Travis?” asked Zac, in a low yet crisp voice. Reid felt bitter in his heart as to he didn't know how to drop the news, gazing at Zac's side face, he began, “It was too late, Zac” His tone was full of grievance, “Where's Travis?” Zac asked again, hinting at Reid to quit his attempt to beat around the bush. “Travis is dead, Zac. Walker and his men shot him to death” Bitterness and anguish were written all over Reid's face as he said these words. Instantaneously, the outline of Zac's side face and his temple tightened into a line. He fisted his hands with blue veins standing out at the back of his hands.
