TRUE ACCUSATION

“Mr. Gonzalez?” Mr. Robinson Green, a creepy big man one of the largest shareholders in Gonzalez corp. called out, after noticing the chairman’s sanity had been long gone.

“Are you…with us?” he asked tentatively as every eyes ogled the chairman, including his assistant.

Zachary Gonzalez inhaled a strained breath before leaning his back in the seat and crossing his arms around his chest, his eyesight softening.

He gave a small wave and curt nod, forcing his attention to the presence. “You can continue,”
His attention wasn’t on the meeting as his mind was engrossed in the last night.

Her touch, body, smile, sexy voice as hell… his attention kept dwelling on all the memories they had shared together. But a certain topic caught his ears.

“This is a matter of concern of how they seemed to have better plans than us in every presentation we’re making in our recent deals. It seems like they exactly know what will be our deficiency and they will work right on there,” stated the bald man beside Mr. Robinson, a frown set between Zac’s joined brows.

They were talking about a rival company of theirs, some AR industries who were competing in every deal Zac’s company approached.

Zac cocked his head to the side, facing one of the managers. “What do you have in your mind about this?”

The man shifted in his chair, clearing his throat. “Umm, I think…”

“That we have someone between us leaking information out?” Zac finished for him. It wasn’t more like a statement than a question. His jaw ticked as the middle-aged man nodded his head.
“Have you tried to find out who it is yet?”

The man visibly gulped. “Uh, we thought to discuss it with you first. And we were not sure how to find out the culprit.”

His lips curled into distaste. “You weren’t sure? Is that how you all have been running this company? Now I see why this company is going down in the market day by day!”

The board members’ avoided his furious gaze, keeping mum.

Blake then cleared his throat after gulping for the umpteenth time, “If you all don’t mind, I’d like to suggest something.”

Nervous flaps ran across Blake’s chest when everyone’s gaze turned to him.

Zac’s sharp glare softened as he gave Blake his sole attention.

“You don’t need to ask permission to speak up, Blake. Say whatever you want to say. Remember you’re also one of us,” Mr. Robinson encouraged him from the other side of the table. Needless to say, he was very fond of Blake and liked his service so much.

Wetting his lips, Blake started. “To find out who’s behind this, can we do discreet research on the backgrounds and recent activities of the people who are working directly with these projects? Because irrelevant staff won’t be to know much of the presentations to disclose,”

When no one said anything and listened to whatever he had to say, he continued.

“That way, if we find someone suspicious, we could easily replace them with someone more reliable and take legal actions against them once we get solid proof regarding their offense.”

An older man laughed out loud. “Good idea, Mr. Blake Wright. But we can’t just go and start searching everyone’s full history and recent activities. It’ll be too time-consuming. And whoever is doing it isn’t a fool, once they’ll find out about the investigation; they’ll get more careful with their moves.”

“That’s why I said the word ‘discreet’. Yes, it might be time-consuming, but it’ll be for the well-being of the company. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s any way to find the culprit,”

“Of course, there’s a way,” he argued. “We could just change the whole team instead and appoint only the trustable ones.”

Blake shook his head, “Finding them out is an utmost need for us right now. Because if we let it go and don’t do anything about it, it won’t be difficult for the rival company to buy someone else again. An example of what happens to a traitor needs to be set before the others.”

That man snorted. “We know what to do or not right now in this situation. You don’t need to point out anything. You’re just an ordinary assistant to Mr. Gonzalez here…”

“Didn’t you hear what he said, Mr. Fred?” snapped Zac. “I’d like you to start working on this as soon as possible without wasting any more time!”

“But Mr. Gonzalez…”

“Enough! No more discussions. You’ll do what my assistant says!” he sneered, cutting Mr. Fred with his icy gaze.

Swallowing, Mr. Fred nodded his head, shifting into his seat.

Mr. Robinson had a bright smile on his face, liking the way Zac had supported Blake.

Blake too was stunned as he’d never thought Zac would ever support his idea like this. Ever since he’d been working for him, today was the first time he’d permitted him to say something at a meeting.

As the meeting on and on, Zac had resumed back to thinking about just one person. That one person who had stolen his heart with no hope of ever returning it.
Unconsciously, he retrieved his cell phone from his chest pocket and unlocked it.

Right away, a tiny smile started to stretch at the corners of his lips as he scrolled through his phone screen.

They were pictures of Ava. He had taken them last night after he was sure that Ava had fallen deeply asleep.

Seeing where Ava’s lips were parted and her hand shielding her eyes, his smile propagated, and Blake couldn’t help but readjust in his seat uneasily.

Something was definitely going on with his boss. He thought mentally. He’d never seen him smile before and now he was smiling out of the blue? What could be the reason behind his smile?

Blake tried to crane his neck to his phone but right then, Zac stood up abruptly and announced his departure. “I’ll leave first,”

“Okay, Mr. Gonzalez,” a few of the members spoke in unison.

Blake then stood up immediately, collected all the stuff, and scampered to open the entrance door.

Getting to the parking lot with Blake following suit, Zac’s slow gait finished as soon as his eyes struck on the woman approaching him with an annoyed expression.

He put his hands in his pocket and waited for her to glide nearer.

“Are you naturally heartless or you just don’t care about your niece?” Mia Dawson threw down the gauntlet, practically spitting fire.

Zac remained unfazed and asked simply, “Are you stalking me now?”

Mia opened her mouth to talk but was cut off by Zac’s next words. “How did you find out that I’m in the office on a Saturday morning, Mia?”

Mia kept mum, her brain scrambling for an escape route.

“It doesn’t matter,” she yelled out all of a sudden.

“Tell me, have you been so busy that you never thought of calling to hear from Aurora since the day she had left your mansion? What kind of an uncle are you, Zac?”

From where Blake stood behind Zac, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but twitched to a side as he continued to watch Mia rant on and on.

“Do you know, do you have any idea of Aurora’s illness? She’s been fucking sick for the past few days now. But how would you know this when you only after her nanny,”

Zac’s eyes dimmed as something flashed over them. “Where’s she now?” he asked, evacuating where he was standing and striding toward his car.

“Tell me honestly, Zac. Do you really want to have something with Aurora’s babysitter? Because I know that someone like you will never take a liking for a lowlife…”

“Will you shut up and tell me where the fuck is Aurora now?” Zac whipped around and gave her a warning glare.

“Your attention is not needed anymore, so just go on and continue flirting with that college bitch!” Mia shrieked and then sauntered off toward her car, her hair bouncing along.

By this time, Blake was already holding the car handle for his boss to go in but Zac didn’t move as he watched Mia until her car was no longer there.
Zac inhaled sharply and slipped into the back seat.
How did she know about her? He thought within himself.

“Uhmm, where should I head now, sir?” Blake asked in the driver’s seat, looking at Zac through the rearview mirror.

“To her house,” Zac answered curtly. He needed to see Aurora and apologized to her.

To be honest, there were no lies in everything Mia had just accused him of. Since Aurora’s short holiday had been over, he’d never thought of calling her.

And just last night, Ava had asked about her and he told her she was doing great.

Sighing loudly, he concluded in his heart that he wasn’t a worthy uncle.

Thirty-five minutes later, the car screeched to a halt right in front of a white mansion. Blake got down first and then hurried to open the door for his boss.

Bit by bit, Zac arrived at the facade of the building after the security had let them inside.

“I don’t just want to stay here anymore. I want to be with Zac and Ava,” Aurora’s squealing voice wafted out of the door and his gait slowed down a bit as he and his assistant shared a knowing look.

“Uhmm, I don’t think it’s all right for a sick child to be shouting like that, Mr. Gonzalez,” Blake voiced out his opinion, bringing Zac’s brows to lift.

He then shifted his gaze in the distance to the garage and soon discovered that Mia’s car from earlier wasn’t among the numerous cars.

He looked back at Blake’s face and nodded.
Blake instantly got the message. He walked to the front door and pressed the bell. In an instant, the door flew open, a young girl dressed in maid attire holding out the door.

She had opened her mouth to ask Blake a question when she spotted Zac standing tall and graceful behind him and without wasting another second, she opened the door wide and bowed at him as he walked past her.

She would have opened her mouth and greeted him but Mia Dawson had warned all the servants to never look at Zachary Gonzalez in the eyes or spell out his name.

Creepy, right?

“I promise I’ll beg your mom to grant your request, Aurora but please eat your lunch first,”

Zac looked up to the lobby upstairs and saw the servant running around with Aurora, obviously begging her to come to eat.

“Aurora,” he called out to her hearing upstairs, staring up.

Aurora stopped running upon recognizing the voice, she peered downstairs through the shiny boundary line and saw him standing there like a Greek god.

His slim body was wrapped in an all-black suit, full of dignity and a powerful aura, making people obsessed with him at only a glance.

“Zac!” Aurora’s voice rose to an excited shriek and immediately, she scuttled toward the long staircases and then began to descend them.

The maid who was with her followed her every step of the way, afraid that she might fall and hurt herself.

Zac on the other hand had gotten a little smile on his handsome yet grave face as he watched the happiness emitting on his niece's face.

He completed her pace, moving forward to the foot of the staircases, and then crouched with his long arms opened to welcome her.

“Oh my goodness, it’s really you, Zac,” Aurora said with a big smile as soon as she reached close and ran into his arms.

Smiling, “It’s me, sweetheart. How have you been?” Zac coaxed, stroking her soft hair to her back.

Aurora disengaged from the long hug and looked into his eyes, “I’m really mad at you, Zac. Why didn’t you come to visit me all these while? Don’t you like me at all?” she finished in one breath, pretending to be angry.

“Of course, I like you, baby,” Zac said and held her small round face in his huge palms. “Tell me, are you feeling much better now? Your mom told me you’ve been ill for some time now,”

Shaking her head, “That’s not true, Zac. I’ve been all right and perfectly okay,” Aurora let out with a bright smile, and Zac’s features instantly formed into a scowl as he gradually rise back to his feet.
