Chapter 5 - Dinner.
"Mr Black, I've booked an executive luxury weekend at the best suite at the Four Season's resort. Everything is ready."
Meyers said and Xavier smiled widely.
"Excellent. Amelia's going to love it. Did they take everything I said into consideration?"
Xavier asked and Meyers nodded with a smile.
"The suite is currently being upgraded to your liking and taste Mr Black."
Meyers replied with a proud smile and Xavier commended him and then he dismissed him. He couldn't wait to go home and surprise Amelia with the news. She had been saying she was bored for the past few days. With nothing more for her to do than work on new art pieces and the plans for her art foundation, Amelia was getting pretty bored. Even the beautiful weather and the warmth of summer couldn't do much to liven up her days and to top it all off Xavier had been working late in the office lately.
Xavier aimed to spend more time with his wife by taking her on a romantic weekend.
He would have preferred them to fly out for a romantic getaway but he didn't want to be away from work especially when he was trying to close a huge deal, so he decided having a romantic getaway at the Four Seasons resort was just as good. And hopefully they would be able to have a good time.
Back in their mansion, Amelia was trying to make dinner. It had taken quite the effort convincing the staff that she was perfectly capable of cooking for Xavier and Ms Millie the housekeeper had snickered when she said she wanted to be the one to make dinner for Xavier but Amelia was not deterred.
She had gone grocery shopping for her own ingredients, just to make sure she was going to get everything right. She had never made seared lamb chops before, but it was one of the meals that topped the list for a romantic dinner and Amelia wasn't going to pass up the chance to make it.
She even went as far as putting on an apron and writing the recipe down.
After carefully arranging everything she needed on the granite kitchen counter after washing them from the sink. She silently hummed to herself as she prepared the sauce that she was going to use to marinate the lamb chops, the food was going to be amazing. She could feel it.
She had a wide smile on her face. The sound of her ringtone blared across the kitchen and Amelia retrieved her vibrating phone from her pocket. It was her mother.
She sighed as she put the call on speaker and placed it on the kitchen counter as she continued cooking.
"Hello Mum." Amelia said as he mother sighed on the phone.
"Oh! Amelia, you ungrateful little thing. You should call us more often."
Amelia rolled her eyes.
"How am I ungrateful? I call you once in a month."
"No, you don't call me. I call you and I do all the talking."
"I'm sorry mum. I'll call you more."
She said as she poured the marinade into a plastic bag with the lamb chops and swished it around. She was going to leave it for a few minutes while she focused on the salad that she was going to make along with it.
"How are you doing? Is everything alright with you and Xavier?"
She asked and Amelia replied in the affirmative. She wondered if she should tell her mother about the whole Daphne issue but she decided against it. She didn't want her mother to start over thinking everything that was going on. Besides Amber Johnston could be very dramatic.
"Well, your father and I are thinking of making a trip to California. You know, say hello to our daughter and all."
"No!" Amelia replied quickly as her eyes widened in shock.
Her mother paused for a while.
"Is there something going on? Why don't you want us coming?"
"Uhm... It's just that... Now isn't...it's not a good time Mum."
Amelia stuttered and there was another pause on the line.
"Sweetie, we'll only be staying a few days and if it bothers you so much I guess your father and I will have to sleep at some hotel."
Her mother raised her voice slightly, Amelia could sense that she was already getting angry.
"Oh it's not that Mum. Of course we want you here."
"Yea, then what are you hiding?"
Amelia rolled her eyes as she groaned internally. If her parents stayed with them, they would definitely be able to sniff out that something was wrong somewhere. Especially her mother, Amber Johnston could smell drama from a mile away.
"Oh! Oh! Are you pregnant and keeping it as a surprise for us? You're trying to do that stuff celebrities do and they suddenly come out several months pregnant right?"
Her mother asked and Amelia sighed as her mother started laughing.
"No, I'm not pregnant mother."
"Really? You're not? When are you getting pregnant then?"
"I don't know. It's not really a priority now."
Her mother scoffed.
"Not a priority now? What are you doing now? Lounging around beside a pool? Of course it's a priority! Its should be top on the list."
"Mum, I'm working on my art foundation project right now, so a baby isn't something I'm ready for right now."
"Ugh! Amelia! Are you still on that silly art thing? I thought we were over that silly hobby of yours. Xavier wants kids! And he wants them soon why are you delaying that?"
"He said that?"
Amelia asked as she folded her arms. Xavier always expressed his love for kids and having them, but he never told them that he wanted them that early. Of course she remembered him mentioning something like that on their honeymoon but she couldn't be too sure.
"Yes, I believe he mentioned it to your father once. Besides, he's an only child and all. I'm sure he wants kids of his own."
Amelia was deep in thoughts. Was that why Xavier was so quick to accept Daphne's pregnancy? Because he wanted kids so bad? He never told her and she didn't suspect anything.
"Well, I gotta go mum. I'm cooking."
"Cooking!" Her mother shrieked and Amelia moved her phone away from her ear.
"Oh stop joking! And if you really are cooking, you better leave that kitchen before you set it on fire. Your father's going to roll on the floor when I tell him that!"
Her mother said as she started laughing. She didn't know why everyone was always underestimating her cooking skills, she wasn't a good cook but she wasn't a terrible one either.
She went back to her cooking, and for the next hour and a half, Amelia was slaving away on dinner making sure the dinner was as perfect as she envisioned it to be.
The only help she had was having the staff set the table and creating a romantic undertone with scented candles and petals of roses.
She helped them pick out the plates too and together with the cook, they both plated the dish in the best way they could.
"Mrs Black, he's here!"
One of the staff peeped into the kitchen and informed Amelia and a bright smile appeared on her face.
"Oh! That's great!"
She said as she started taking off the apron and wiped her brow and loosened her hair from it's bun.
"Xavier?"
She called out as she reached their room. He turned back to look at her with a smile on his face as he was taking off his shirt.
Amelia jumped on him and he caught her effortlessly. They both hugged each other tightly like they had not seen each other in weeks.
"Woahh! Someone looks very happy tonight."
He said as he kissed her lips slowly and put her down but still held on to her waist.
"I am! How was work? I made you dinner."
Xavier's eyes widened as he looked at his wife.
"You made dinner?!! And the house is still standing?"
Amelia rolled her eyes as Xavier quickly looked around to confirm if everything was intact.
"That was one time! And it was a mistake. I'm so much better now."
Xavier raised his eyes.
"Really? I still don't believe you. Tell me, did you have any help?"
"No! I didn't! Come and eat. I've tasted it and it's amazing!"
"Somehow, I still find it very hard to believe."
Xavier said as Amelia started pulling him out of the room and towards the direction of the dining.
"Oh! I can't wait for you to try it."
"I'm already shaking." Xavier said playfully and she shot him a look.
"It's not that bad. In fact it's not bad at all."
Amelia was watching expectantly as Xavier took a bite of the food. It had taken a while and a lot of convincing for her to convince him that she cooked the food alone without help. She had served him herself and decided to watch his reaction as he took his first bite. Xavier chewed slowly and deliberately, as if he wanted Amelia to anticipate his reaction with every passing second.
"I can actually believe you made this."
Xavier said as he nodded his head and smiled a little. Amelia frowned, she didn't know if she should take it as a compliment or not.
"Does that mean you like it? Is it amazing?"
Xavier gave Amelia a look.
"Do you want my honest review?"
He asked and she nodded her head eagerly.
Xavier sighed and he looked at Amelia straight in the eyes.
"It's a little bit overcooked. And I guess you poured a little too much salt in the lamb chops because... Well... It's extra salty."
He said as she shook his head. Amelia frowned.
The food was not salty, there was no way it was. She had double checked everything.
"Let me have a taste. It's not salty!" She said as she walked over to his side and stabbed his meat with her fork.
Xavier watched her with a smirk as she tasted it.
There was nothing wrong with the food. She thought as she chewed.
"It's perfectly fine!"
She said as she dropped her fork and glared at Xavier.
Xavier pulled her towards him and gave her a kiss.
"I know. I was just kidding."
He said and she playfully smacked his arms before going back to her chair.
"So, tell me. How does it really taste?"
Xavier shrugged.
"Its not bad. I think you did pretty well."
Her cheeks warmed at the compliment as she smiled widely.
"I have a surprise for you."
Xavier said and Amelia looked up from her food with a surprised look on her face.
"What is it?"
She asked as she raised her head from his food and he smiled.
"Well, I decided that we should enjoy a weekend at the Four Seasons resort because we deserve it, don't we?"
He asked and Amelia's jaw dropped.
"Awwwwn! That is so cute. I've actually never been to the Four Seasons Resort."
Xavier shrugged.
"It's pretty decent. I would have preferred us going on a romantic getaway but I have to stay here and close that deal I was telling you about."
Amelia nodded.
"Sure! Take your time. I don't mind. I'm just happy I'll be having you all to myself this week."
Amelia said as she went over to Xavier and plopped on his lap. She planted a big wet smacking kiss on his cheek.
"So, No distractions this weekend. Just me and you right?"
Xavier tilled his eyes.
"That's how our weekends have always been."
Amelia shrugged.
"I know, it's just that this time it's a different scenery and all. And I can't wait to explore all that and just relax and be pampered this weekend."
"Oh I can't wait to pamper you this weekend!"
"Oh I can't wait either. Oh and I've got to tell you, I think my parents are planning on visiting soon."
She mentioned and Xavier's eyes widened.
"Well, that's certainly something... Are you okay with that?"
Amelia shook her head.
"Not really, but they're my parents and I don't want them to feel like I don't want them here."
Xavier nodded.
"True. Well, I'll ask Millie to set up a room for them and all."
"Yes. That'll be good. I can't wait for this weekend. Although it'd have been so much better if we were spending it in somewhere exotic."
Xavier shrugged.
"Who knows, we can be going to Venice or Maldives the next weekend. Whatever my lady wants I'll give her."
