Chapter 7 - Childish behaviour.

"Amelia! Xavier is downstairs!"

Mrs Pots called out and Amelia rolled her eyes as she continued brushing her hair. It was like an obsidian waterfall that tumbled down her back in thick wavy locks. Her eyes were a rich violet but that was all the special features Amelia knew she possessed. She was mostly slim and flat chested, except for the days she decided to wear a push up bra.
Her ex boyfriend and Molly had suggested breast implants a lot of times but Amelia was terrified of surgeries.

Her skin also had a light tan to it due to her Brazilian heritage.

Her lips were pouty and full but her face had a soft roundness to it that Amelia thought made her look like a child despite her beautiful cheekbones.

It was the day she was going to meet Xavier's family and Xavier had overstressed the fact that Amelia must look presentable.

Their wedding was in three days and Xavier felt it was time that a proper introduction be done.

Amelia wasn't sure what to do or say when she met his family, she was sure he was going to handle all that because she couldn't decide on what she would do or say.

Her hair fell in waves down her back and Amelia briefly considered getting a haircut as she rechecked her makeup.

She had decided not to listen to the part where Xavier told her to dress presentable because Amelia Johnston dressed for no man.

And she was wearing a white corset top with a sweetheart neckline and flirty short nude skirt paired with heels.

Amelia was also very nervous. It was the third time she would be seeing Xavier after their initial first meeting when she had sex with him. She wondered how it was going to go but she decided that she was going to make it clear to him that she wasn't the sort of girl that slept with every man on the first date.

After grabbing her purse, she headed to the foyer where she was sure that he was waiting for her.

Xavier was entirely focused on his phone with a frown on his face as he sat on his couch.

"Hello!"
Amelia said awkwardly as she waved a little.

Xavier looked up and studied Amelia, taking her all in as he narrowed his eyes at her. He looked different. He was wearing dark pants and a nice tucked in blue shirt.

She hastily looked away from him as memories from her twenty fourth birthday threatened to resurface.

From the uncomfortable look on his face, Amelia was sure that he was feeling the same thing.

"Don't you have anything presentable in your closet?"

"This is the best I can do."

"Really? Go and change, you're not wearing that, it's too short."

Amelia stood her ground as she folded her arms.

"Then we're not going anywhere because this is what I want to wear. You don't get to dictate what I wear."

"Yes, I do. I'm going to be your husband."

Amelia chuckled slowly as she settled herself into a seat. She crossed her legs and gave him a look.

"Still doesn't change the fact that you definitely don't get the right to dictate what I wear. Now, are we leaving or not?"

Xavier groaned in frustration and he stood up and walked away from Amelia.

A small smile formed on her lips.

She won this round, she thought as they got out the house and the chauffeur opened the door for them.

The car ride was silent for a while and Amelia used the opportunity to text her friends. She was busy sending emojis to her friend Molly to describe her situation when Xavier's voice brought her out of her reverie.

"When we get there. You're going to let me do all the talking." Xavier said and Amelia narrowed her eyes at him

"Why should I let you do all the talking?"

"Because I don't want you to say something that would give the impression that we just met."

"Well, we did just meet. And why didn't you think of that? Maybe you should have hired an actress."

"Can you stop talking? Just do as I say."

"And what happens if I don't?"

Amelia said as she frowned and folded her arms.

Who the hell did Xavier think he was getting married to? A mannequin?

Amelia thought as she silently chuckled to herself.

"Please just stop talking. Can't believe I'm getting married to someone as annoying as you."

Amelia scoffed as she looked at Xavier in amazement, he had picked up his phone and he was so focused on it that Amelia felt like snatching it away from him just like she used to do to her ex boyfriend Allen.
But she slowly reminded herself that this wasn't Allen. In fact, he was much different than Allen.

"Well! Woe is me! Can't believe I'm getting married to someone as irritating as you."

"Maybe I should refresh your mind and remind you the reasons why you're getting married to me."

Xavier said as he turned to look at her, his grey eyes blazing with something similar to annoyance.

"Keep in mind that you're doing this for your family." He said.

Amelia's eyes widened as she glared at him.

"Oh! So I'm supposed kiss your feet? Give me a break."

Amelia rolled her eyes and looked out the window, suddenly aware that the Chauffeur was watching them quietly from the rearview mirror.

Barely an hour together and they already had their first argument. Amelia could count the million ways their wedding was going to crash the minute they tied the knot.

"You are nothing like your father described you to be."

Xavier commented and Amelia rolled her eyes wondering about the lies about her that her father must have fed Xavier to make him receptive to the idea of him marrying her.

Amelia was the complete opposite of everything that her father said and a large part of her was happy about that.

"Thank God! What were you expecting? Some pretty girl without a backbone?"

She asked as she stared at Xavier who ran his hands through his hair in frustration.

"I never said that. But, it's just that... Your father gave me certain expectations of you and you're completely different from that."

"Really? What did he say?"

Amelia asked out of curiosity.

"Well, he said that you were reserved, kind, soft spoken and you were intelligent and mature, good at a few things."

Amelia rolled her eyes as she shamelessly mimicked Xavier's tone which she found pathetic.

"Well, he said that you were reserved, kind, bla bla bla!"

"Did you really believe that?"

She said as she started laughing again.

Xavier watched her with amusement..

"You have the mind of a child..."

"Excuse me?"

"We're here!!" The Chauffeur called out nervously as he tugged at his collar and Xavier used the opportunity to slip out of the car before Amelia continued her argument.

Amelia slowly followed him. She was about to continue her argument with Xavier when she noticed that they had arrived at a cancer clinic.
It was a private cancer clinic that was well renowned for it's outstanding achievements and breakthroughs when it came to cancer.

Amelia watched Xavier nervously, wandering exactly what she was going to say. She knew that he had lost his parents, but she had no inkling of whichever one of his family members had cancer. Maybe she should have been a little kinder, she told herself as she put a hand on her lips and watched on somberly as the walked into the pristine clinic.

"Hello Mr Black. She's ready to see you now."

A nurse said as she quietly led Xavier and Amelia deeper into the hospital.

Amelia turned slowly to look at Xavier, he had a permanent frown on his face.

"Xavier?" She said his name as softly as she could but he didn't even look at her once.

"Xavier, who are we here to see?" she asked.

There was a long pause and they were almost at the end of the hallway before Xavier replied.

"My grandmother."
