Chapter 15 - Gone Baby Gone.
Amelia was in the Master's bedroom flinging clothes clumsily into her stylish LV suitcase. She didn't even know what she was throwing inside or why she was throwing in random stuffs like hairbrushes, coats and evening gowns. She couldn't take it anymore. She imagined being far away from Xavier as she could, maybe she would go to New York. She didn't know, her mind was a muddle of emotions.
Xavier closed the door gently behind him as he sneaked into their room.
"Amelia what are you doing?"
He asked in shock as he watched her throwing her stuff into the suitcase.
"What does it look like I'm doing?"
"Stop!"
He said as he held her hand and Amelia pushed him away from her.
She blew at her hair furiously as she glowered at him.
"Leave me alone Xavier."
"Amelia! You can't tell me that you're leaving because of a misunderstanding? Really?"
Amelia didn't respond, she was more concerned with her clothes being in the suitcase and how she was going to book the next flight to New York. The choices ran through her head and she wondered where she would stay. Their penthouse in New York or her studio apartment?
"Amelia!"
Xavier shouted and Amelia turned to look at him. He looked desperate and tired and pitiful at the same time but Amelia was determined not to care.
Not anymore.
She had endured every second of his stupid behaviour, she couldn't stand to be accused by her husband for something that she didn't do. She expected much more from him. Much more than she was getting.
"Xavier..." Amelia started as she touched the bridge of her nose. She felt exhausted, she had been home for only a few minutes and it was already mentally draining her. The situation she was in was far from ideal.
"Come, let's sit down."
She said as she gestured to the sofa in their room and walked towards it. She had to explain to him what she was doing even if it was going to hurt him. Amelia was tired of screaming and shouting. She was tired of all her frequent outbursts.
She had never felt more betrayed watching Xavier choosing to believe Daphne over her. Daphne, the other woman. The woman who had tried to bring them apart. The woman who had drugged and raped him on the night of his Nana's death. Daphne, the hopeless and manipulative woman who had been a pest in their lives since the beginning.
"I need to go."
She said as she looked Xavier in the eyes. He reached for her hand and she pulled back quickly, putting her hands in her clothes.
"Amelia, we can work this out. We promised to sort things out... What's going on?"
"I really never thought I'd see the day you'd pick the words of that woman over mine. I thought it'd be much later but it appears it has come sooner than expected."
Amelia said as she chuckled slowly , tears were slowly blurring her vision and she blinked them back rapidly, she had refused to cry for so long, held it in for along time, she could wait a couple of days. She told herself as she shook her head.
"Amelia, I'm sorry. I take it back baby, I take it all back."
Xavier said as he knelt in front of Amelia and reached for her hand. Amelia looked away from him. It was too late. Wat too late.
"You can't take something like that back. You already said it."
"I'm sorry! I didn't know what was happening, I still don't know what's going on... Let's just talk about this and we'll settle whatever it is."
"No, there's no settling anything. All I need is time."
"Time for what baby?"
"Time for me! Xavier don't you get it?"
"Everything, everything about our relationship has been mentally exhausting these past few weeks! I just need space! I need time!"
"You think it isn't exhausting for me?"
Xavier asked with a small frown.
"You have no idea how hard it is Amelia."
"How hard can it be?"
Amelia scoffed.
"Then tell me, how hard is it?"
She taunted as she pulled her hand away and stood up walking back to the bed and her suitcase with too much clothes in it.
"I have to constantly mull over every decision I make. I'm torn between my duties as a father and my duties as a husband. I know you don't want me to trust Daphne or keep her around but I can't help but wonder how I'm going to raise a child if I can't get along with the mother!"
"This is very hard for me too Amelia..."
"And to be honest you're not always making it easy. You're always antagonising, always attacking Daphne and you never support anything I do."
"That's not true! I have always supported you."
"Really?" Xavier asked as he raised his eyebrow.
"You gave me hell when I asked Daphne to move in here. I told you I was sorry but you reminded me of that stupid decision every single day."
There was a long pause as the both of them stares at each other from the opposite sides of the room. Everything was a mess. The whole situation was out of hand and Amelia wanted to get away. She just needed to be in a place where she didn't have to be constantly reminded that there was a woman pregnant with her husband's child. It was the truth.
"It's hard for me too... She's having your baby! Do you even know what that means?"
Amelia asked as she tried to control her cracked voice.
"For every first you should have had with me, you would have had it with her."
Amelia explained with tears in her eyes. She collapsed back on the couch, unable to stand alone with her two legs wavering and her knees buckling.
Xavier rushed to her side and hugged her, she leaned in a bit into his embrace savouring the warmth that came from him.
"It doesn't matter. Nothing would ever change my love for you."
She pulled away from Xavier's embrace. He couldn't choose. She knew he couldn't and she wouldn't let him.
She looked into his eyes, the eyes she had come to love and slowly caressed his face tenderly. Xavier leaned into her embrace as he kissed her hand slowly.
"I'm leaving for New York."
She gulped hard and Xavier looked up at her with a confused expression
"Amelia, don't do this..."
"I still love you. I always will. And you're my husband and I absolutely love, adore and cherish you but I'm afraid if I don't leave this place, I'd most likely go crazy!"
Amelia sighed as she ran her hands through her hair.
"I can't stay here another minute while she's here."
"If that's the issue, I'll get her out this night. I promise you that."
Xavier swore and Amelia shook her head.
"That's not the issue."
"Then what is?"
"You didn't believe me. Even when I expected you to."
Amelia said sadly as she stood up and walked back to her clothes leaving Xavier glued to the spot.
"I'll go to New York, see my friends, stay for a while and I'll be back when I feel my head is clear."
"I suggest you try and use that time to talk to Daphne and establish ground rules and boundaries."
"Amelia, please..."
She raised her hand and quickly cut him off
"I need this Xavier."
"I am so close to a burnout because I'm sick and tired of all this. I just need fresh air."
Xavier gulped hard as he watched Amelia, he knew he should stop her but he was glued to the stop. She was right about the whole situation being mentally exhausting and he had not been handling it well.
He also messed up blatantly accusing Amelia of leaking the story, she looked so mad that he believed she didn't, but it was already too late and he couldn't take it back. Xavier was further away from the truth than he had ever been. He had to do something. Everything around him was crashing down because of the baby and the woman he loved was walking out on him.
"When will you be back?"
He asked after a while, defeated and angry.
She shrugged as she tucked her unruly hair between her ear.
"I don't know... Time will tell."
She genuinely didn't know how long she was going to spend in New York. All she cared about was her mental health and how she was going to get over everything that was happening.
"You know I love you right?"
Xavier asked and Amelia stopped and turned, there was a black scarf in her hands and it dropped on the floor.
Amelia watched it escape from her hand and clumsily retrieved it before facing Xavier.
"I know. I love you too."
"Then why is all this happening?"
Xavier asked and Amelia shrugged.
"Because sometimes, love isn't always enough."
"How was it?"
Nina asked and Daphne giggled with glee.
"Oh it went perfectly well. Let me tell you all about it."
She whispered through the phone as she peeped outside her room, the house was quiet and the maids were going about their duty in the rooms. She gently closed the door of her room and slipped back into her bed with her phone to her ear. Amelia and Xavier had been upstairs for a while but ut didn't bother her since she was positive that they were fighting. Even if they didn't end up being divided, she had more tricks up her sleeves to spice up things.
"Oh come onDaphne! Spill! How did you do it?"
Daphne rolled her eyes as she laid on her side and propped her head on a pillow with her phone to the ear.
"Well, all it took was a couple of thousand dollars and that slimeball Jared Kushner was practically begging to leak the story and to pretend that it was Amelia who sold him the story! He was even going to lie to Xavier's face about it! Can you believe it?"
"Oh! Jared would do anything for money Daphne. Trust me, I am not surprised."
"Well, that clearly worked very well in our favour."
Daphne cackled and her friend joined her.
"But the email? How were you able to fake that?"
She waved her hand as she rolled her eyes. Everything had really been pretty easy for her. For people who claimed to be rich and wealthy, Amelia and Xavier were really lax when it came to security. They did not only refuse to set cameras in the personal rooms, they also trusted Millie their housekeeper so well that she had a key to every room with the exception being Xavier's study. But Amelia still had no idea that Millie had a spare to her private or office room.
"Well, the housekeeper got the laptop when she went shopping this morning, vain little thing."
Daphne said as she rolled her eyes.
"After that we sneaked it out of the house and I paid an hacker to do the job. It was ridiculously easy."
"I hope you left no loose ends, because I can't even imagine what would happen if Xavier figures it out."
"Oh! what will he do? I have him eating out of my hands! He's harmless!"
"He cares too much about the baby to do anything even if he finds out I did it."
"Daphne, are you sure your secret is safe with Lorenzo?"
Nina asked and Daphne's heart jumped into her mouth with the mention of the name Lorenzo.
"I've told you to stop talking about him! I don't ever want to hear his name..."
At that moment someone knocked on her door and Daphne ended the call abruptly and glared at the door.
Thank goodness she had locked the door, she couldn't imagine Xavier or Amelia walking in on her conversation with Nina.
"Who's there?"
She called out as she stood up and rearranged her bed.
"It's Amelia! Open up!"
"Shit!" Daphne groaned as she walked towards the door and opened it.
Daphne saw her standing outside her door in a new jeans and a top. She was even wearing boots and for some reason her face looked scrubbed clean. She didn't look like she was crying, nor did she looks like she was angry. Daphne eyed her cautiously.
Amelia gave her a small smirk.
"Start packing. I've found you a new place. And it is my personal mission, to deliver you there in person."
I deeply apologise for the late updates, they will be regular from now on.
