Chapter 13 - The Pregnancy Scandal.

It took a while. After a long talk and a lot of explanation, Amelia's parents finally got the hang of what was going on. And Amelia had never seen her mother so angry.

If Amelia thought that she overreacted when she heard the news for the first time, her mother did even worse. It took Xavier and her Dad just to hold her down and keep her from going downstairs to beat up Daphne.

Her rage was understandable, she had been excited about her daughter's marriage. She had smeared it on her friend's faces and talked of how her daughter married a billionaire a million times to her friends, the ones that cared and the ones that didn't care to listen.

The pregnancy was the biggest scandal ever, even if Amelia and Xavier decided to keep the story away from the press, it would still have to come out. It was possible to hide a pregnancy, but no one could hide a baby. Besides, Daphne's career as an actress made things much more complicated. Soon, the media would start to poke around and ask questions when they see a baby bump.

And Xavier desperately didn't want to paint Daphne as the villain, which meant the role of the villain would still have to fall on him. Because in what world would an highly respectable and wealthy CEO who was married get his ex girlfriend pregnant and get away with it. The media would go on and on about it for weeks and they would be waiting for the divorce papers that Amelia would serve him.

In a few months, Amelia could only imagine what a scandal it would be if Xavier didn't find a way around the problem.

Later, Xavier and her Dad walked out of the room leaving Amelia to calm her flustered mother. She was helping her mother arrange her clothes in the closet while her mother was seated quietly at her vanity mirror.

"That woman! And to think she's even living here! Do you know how stupid that is?"

Amelia sighed.

"Yes, I know it's stupid. Xavier's working hard to get a place for her."

"How hard is it to find a place Amelia? Are you sure he's not stalling?"

Her mother asked as she glanced at her daughter who didn't look as bothered as her mother. She wished her daughter didn't look so calm about the matter as she was. She concluded that Amelia was too trusting of her husband Xavier. She knew men like the back of her hands and after living with a husband that she had caught cheating on her more than twice, she could smell a lie from a mile away.

She didn't trust Xavier with his ex girlfriend and she felt Amelia was not handling the situation as she should be. Men were feeble things,  feeble and fragile. They could easily be carried away by a show of emotion or a display of one, be it false or true, very few of them could spot the difference.

And no matter how good and perfect Xavier was, he was still susceptible to it

"Amelia, your husband is having another baby with another woman, what do you plan to do about it?"

She asked and Amelia turned to her mother with a frown.

"Well, what do you want me to do about it?"

"Oh my Lord! How can you be so stupid Amelia! You should have never allowed that woman in your house in the first place."

"Mum! It's not my fault she's here!!"

"But it is!"

"It is Amelia!" Her mother screamed and she flinched.

"If you had a better control over him, this wouldn't have happened. He wouldn't have taken a single decision before consulting you."

"What would you have me do mother?"

Amelia asked slowly at her mother who looked mad with rage.

"First things first, find an apartment yourself and get that woman out of here."

"The more she stays here, the more power she has. Get her somewhere far away and please keep this away from the press. It's going to be chaotic if they find out."

Amelia nodded. The only problem was trying to convince Xavier to let her handle the apartment herself. And the press part was covered.

"Secondly, insert yourself into everything. Don't let her even have a minute alone with Xavier. If possible, make her go through you..."

"Mum, that's impossible... Xavier is the father. I can't do that."

Her mother's eyes widened and she started laughing.

"Oh you can't do that? Do you want me to tell you what happen if you don't?"

She asked and Amelia looked away as she folded her arms. Suddenly the lamp in the room was way more interesting than the burning gaze of her mother. But even with that, Amelia could still feel her mother's critical gaze on her.

"That woman is going to have that baby and she would have Xavier at her beck and call. Xavier isn't the type of man to leave his child, so you can expect him to be at every doctor's appointment, every birthday party and every other excuse she is going to make up. And during that time, you wouldn't know what they're doing, who knows, he just might develop feelings for the mother of his child."

Her mother said as she shrugged.

"Mum... Xavier would never fall for her again..."

"Really?" Her mother asked as she raised her eyebrows.

"Then how come he keeps doing everything she tells him to? Because if he really doesn't like her, he should be repulsed by the sight of her. I've seen men hate women for less..."

"But Xavier seems to be making up excuses for her. So I think the question you should be asking is, does he still have feelings for her?"

No.

That was impossible, Amelia paced around the room. Her mother must have been overreacting because she was blowing things out of proportions. There was no way in hell Daphne could still have feelings for Xavier.

And she didn't want to think about it but she was forced to listen to her thoughts. There was no other reason why Xavier would have even let Daphne into their home even if she begged him to. He should have said no outrightly. He could Have refused, he could have asked her first.

There were a million and one things he could have done that wouldn't have involved bringing her to their house.

Amelia stormed out of the room and collided into the housekeeper who was at the door. Millie quickly scrambled on her feet as she straightened her clothes. Amelia narrowed her eyes at her.

"What are you doing here?"

Millie glanced around nervously as she avoided Amelia's eyes.

"I just wanted to ask if you need anything."

"Need anything? Why didn't you knock?"

Amelia asked as she folded her arms. Millie was acting suspicious, way too suspicious for Amelia's liking. More than once she had caught her spying on her but Amelia couldn't fathom why she would be spying on her or Xavier.

"I was about to..."

She stammered but Amelia shut her up.

"I don't trust you Millie. I haven't trusted you in a while. And now, I catch you eavesdropping on me and my mother!"

"Mrs Black! I swear I wasn't eavesdropping! Why would I?"

Amelia shrugged.

"Well how would I know? For all I know you could be spying on me on behalf of Daphne!"

Amelia waited for the shocked expression to come on Millie's face but for the first few seconds, Millie looked frightened, then she quickly masked her fear and feigned shock.

"Why would I? I have no reason to be aligned with that woman! My God!"

"Hnmmm...."

Amelia studied her closely. She was lying. The fear in her eyes was real and glaring. But she was also confused, why would their housekeeper be spying on them for Daphne?

She needed more time to look into it.

More time to look into it and she didn't want Millie to suspect a thing.

"I'm watching you Millie."

Amelia warned as she walked away. She needed a drink. She was stressed out and tired. She wondered if she should confront Daphne, but she decided against it. Her mother had given her a lot to think about and Amelia wondered if her mother was right about not handling the issue as well as she should. Amelia walked to the bar with a frustrated groan. She needed whiskey, lots of it.

Millie slipped into Daphne's room quietly when the whole house was asleep. Daphne sat upright the moment she slipped in.

"Finally! I've been waiting for you all day! What took you so long?"

Millie shrugged.

"Well, Mrs Black suspects something, I couldn't risk her finding out a thing."

Millie whispered as Daphne frowned.

"What do you have for me?"

Daphne asked impatiently. Amelia's parents had arrived and Xavier had informed her that whether or not she liked it she was leaving their house before the end of the week. He had been very serious about it and Daphne was worried. She thought staying with Xavier would dampen the mood around and put a strain on their relationship but after their little getaway, it appeared that they were stronger.

"Amelia's going to be looking for an apartment for you. And she's very serious about it. She got a realtor already and they've found a place for you."

"Really? Fuck!" Daphne shouted as she ran her hands through her hair.

"What about the conversation she had with her parents? What did they think?"

Millie shrugged.

"Her mother is very worried. She wants Amelia to take charge of the situation."

"She thinks it's a scandal that should be properly managed."

Daphne scoffed.

"Of course it is..."

An idea came to her head.

"Wait a minute... What did you say?"

She asked and Millie shrugged.

"Amelia's mother thinks Amelia isn't taking charge enough. She believes that Amelia has to control whatever Xavier does with you."

"No, no, no! The part about the scandal."

"I heard them talking about it later, apparently they agree it would be terrible if the press found out about it."

"Hnmmmm..." Daphne said as she smiled wearily.

"Millie?"

"Yes?" She answered eagerly as she glanced around nervously.

"Do you have access to Amelia's laptops or phones?"

Millie nodded.

"I have access to her laptop, she leaves it in her art room all the time."

Daphne nodded.

"Good, I'm going to need it."

"What for?"

Daphne shrugged.

"Well, let's just say we'll have to leak my pregnancy to the press and Xavier would have Amelia to blame."

"But... Wouldn't that do more harm than good?"

Daphne shrugged.

"It'll be disguised as a rumour. But we have to let Xavier think Amelia did it."
