Chapter 30- A Mission.

Amelia and Xavier were on their way to a charity event when the call came in. It was Lorenzo, he sounded slow and sad but he told Amelia what was going on. Daphne lost her baby. He ended the call shortly after. And Amelia respected his grief enough to not give him a call back. Xavier fixing his cufflinks when she came over to meet him in front of the mirror in their closet. The news had shaken her more than she expected. She really didn't know how to feel about it.

"Xavier..."

She said quietly as she stood in front of him and helped him with his bow tie.

"What? Is this about the Charity event? You're not getting away from this one so easily... It's vital we attend."

Amelia shook her head.

"No, no. It's not that. I have some... News."

She said as she looked into her husband's eyes and he frowned.

"What news?"

He asked as he raised his eyebrows and held Amelia's hands in his. His hands were warm, she noted as she squeezed them slightly.

"Lorenzo just called..."

Xavier immediately rolled his eyes. He never liked Lorenzo, but Amelia had apparently taken a liking to the bumbling idiot. He didn't like the fact that he was in somehow involved with Daphne and getting close to his wife. He also didn't like how Amelia had trusted him so easily.

Truly, he had been sceptical when she first talked about him, although she had only good things to say about him, he knew Amelia could be a little too trusting. So he ran a background check on Lorenzo and imagine his surprise when he found out he had a previous charge for sexual harassment. And one interviewer had described him as flirty. He didn't like people like that around Amelia but there was little he could do when it came to choosing who Amelia could or could not associate with. So he chose to trust her judgement.

But he still didn't like him.

"What did he say?"

He asked and Amelia lowered her eyes as she sighed.

"He said Daphne lost her baby."

What?!!

That was the first word that came to his mind as he stared at Amelia incredulously.

"Really? How did that happen?"

He asked and she shrugged as she flipped her hair behind her shoulder. There was worry and fear etched in her facial features.

"I don't know. He didn't say much. But I feel pretty bad for her. I can't imagine what she must be going through..."

Xavier shook his head. He wasn't really feeling anything. In all honesty, he didn't even know what he was meant to be feeling.

"The doctor told us back then her pregnancy was high risk..."

Amelia hugged herself as she took a step away from Xavier, she didn't like Daphne at all, but losing a child, a miscarriage, it sounded very horrible.

"She must have miscarried... I know I don't like her... But I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy."

Xavier nodded.

"True."

"Oh God! Xavier, I can't even begin to imagine what I would do if something like that happened to me..."

She started and Xavier shook his head as he walked closer to Amelia.

"Oh no! Don't say that. That's never going to happen."

He whispered in her ear as he wrapped his arms around her waist and drew her close to him. His large hands cupped her belly and he massaged it gently.

"Our baby is going to be fine. Remember what that book said about positive affirmations."

Amelia nodded.

"Yes, I remember. I just... I feel so sorry for her."

She couldn't even place or understand why she was feeling bad, she wasn't sure if it was due to her pregnancy hormones. She could already feel tears blurring her vision and she quickly blinked them away.

"Should we call her?"

Amelia asked after a while and Xavier looked alarmed as pulled away to look Amelia in the eyes.

"You want to call Daphne?!!"

Amelia nodded.

"Yea, we'll send a card and flowers or something. Just so she knows we care."

Xavier chuckled.

"Are you being serious right now?"

He asked and Amelia frowned at him, why was he laughing? It was a logical idea.

"Knowing Daphne, she'll probably take it as a personal attack and see it as a sign of mockery against her."

Xavier was right, Daphne could get angry and see their kind gestures as signs of them mocking her.

"Maybe that's not such a good idea."

Amelia said as she walked towards their bed and sat on the edge. Xavier sighed and went to sit next to her.

"I get you're sad. I know you must be feeling a bit sympathetic towards her plight... But baby, it's Daphne we're talking about."

"This woman was out to ruin our relationship and force another man's baby on me after she spiked my drink and forced herself on me. I think she deserves whatever is coming to her."

Xavier said and Amelia agreed with him, it was true. Daphne had done so many horrible things to them, but it still didn't mean that she deserved a miscarriage.

"I know she was pretty horrible but still, that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve out sympathy. If we can't contact her or anything I think it's best we leave her to grief."

"Yes, I understand. Must be a difficult time. Do you still want to go to the Charity event?"

Amelia shrugged. She didn't even know, her mind was a turmoil of emotions and she couldn't decide if she wanted to smile the entire night in the company of people she really didn't care to be with. She really didn't like the social scene, but Xavier had done a lot to persuade her to go with him. He even went as far as purchasing a gorgeous last minute evening gown. And she had promised she would go with him.

"Yes, I can't back out now."

Xavier smiled.

"You can actually. How you feel is more important to me than a Charity event. Do you want to go?"

He asked and Amelia shook her head.

She really didn't want to go. Her mood was messed up for the whole night with the news. The fact that she was pregnant made it all worse. She knew she would break if anything ever happened to her baby.

She didn't even want to think about it.

"No. I don't really feel like going anywhere."

She finally said and Xavier nodded as he went on his knees and started unbuckling the straps of her heels with care.

"Good. We'll stay in, order whatever messed up craving you want to eat, watch whatever cheesy soap opera you want to watch until you feel better."

He said and Amelia's cheeks warmed as she heard his words. The Charity event meant so much to him, but she really couldn't bring herslef to attend. She knew tbwy she would sulk all night and she didn't want to ruin Xavier's mood.

"What about the Charity event?"

Xavier shrugged as he fished out his phone from his pocket.

"No biggie. I'll send in my donation and also send a representative."

"Oh I love you so much."

Amelia cried as she kissed the top of his hair and Xavier held on to her hands.

"I love you too Amelia."

She roused from her sleep hours later. Her eyes were heavy and her voice was cracked. When she opened her eyes, she couldn't see anyone in her hospital room and the lights, it was blinding. She slowly turned to her side, ignoring the IV and the numb pain she was feeling. There was a bouquet of flowers on her bedside table and there was a card. She suspected it was from Nina. Nina was the only one who knew she loved daisies. She ignored the flowers and sighed. She couldn't believe she was still stuck in the hospital, she was tired and she didn't want to stay any longer.

Her mind lingered back to Amelia and Xavier and she imagined them celebrating the fact that she had a miscarriage. Her blood boiled the more she was thinking about it.

She looked around her hospital room and suddenly felt very irritated and disgusted. Why did she have to stay in the hospital room when they both lived their lives freely?

She needed to do something! If not anything, to avenge her baby's death, she thought as she sat up on her bed and looked at the IV on her hand.
She had no use for it, she thought as she ripped it off.

She swung her legs off the bed and settled them on the floor, they felt wobbly but she could still stand on them. Her hospital gown was still on her but her bag was still available next to her.

One of the extra beach gown she packed was still untouched by the blood from her heavy bleeding and she ripped off the hospital gown as she put it on quickly. She was still quite tired and sore. Trickles of blood was coming out of where her IV had been rippled and not to mention she was still heavily bleeding.

She wasn't deterred. Sitting in the hospital and doing nothing wasn't something she planed to do for long. She needed to leave and strategize, find something to do about Amelia and Xavier.

Find a way to make them pay.

"I'm coming for you Amelia! I swear I'm coming for you."

She murmured as she twisted her hair in a bun and left the hospital room with her handbag in her hand and blood dripping from her hand.

She had a mission.
