Chapter 6 - Demands Demands.
It was the fifth time she was trying Xavier's number. Daphne was starting to think that he was ignoring her. And she was fully prepared for it. She was going to see him in his office, he wouldn't avoid her for long. Daphne's days were slowly turning into a nightmare. Pregnancy wasn't the sweet and beautiful journey that people always painted it to be. It was painful and it hurt like a bitch. Not to mention the various fears and thoughts that came to her mind about being fat and pushing out a baby from her vagina. It was horrifying enough for her to think of.
But she believed it was what she had to do. If that was what it was going to take to make Xavier accept her and make her a permanent fixture in his life, she was going to do it. She felt the nausea rise up in her throat again as she got in the elevator and she felt sick to her stomach. Her nausea and queasiness was the worst part of it. She couldn't hold anything down and she was always tired or feeling like puking half the entire time. The doctor told her it was all part of the process and he didn't even give her something to help with the nausea.
She ran a hand through her hair as she rested on the elevator wall waiting to reach Xavier's floor. She was in the elevator with a few business officials who were giving her a silly look and she flipped them off. She didn't care about how she was dressed, she wished that she could shout at them. Tell them to fuck off and tell them she was carrying their CEO's baby but Xavier had strictly warned her about involving the press or anyone who could leak the story. He was dead serious about his warning and Daphne didn't want to try him.
She pulled down her dress a bit. Maybe she had gone a bit overboard with the dark purple fitted dress with frills at the hem but she didn't really care. She liked flaunting what she had, even if it wasn't real. Her assets had been surgically enhanced and they had taken her farther than her real looks could ever get her. For that she was grateful. More so, Daphne was desperate enough to try and use seduction on Xavier.
After a short while, the elevator stopped at Xavier's floor and Daphne left. She walked straight to his office, rudely deciding not to give his receptionist even as much as a glance.
"Excuse me Ms."
The reception called out and Daphne slowly turned back.
"I'm here to see Xavier."
She said as Daphne examined her nails, bored already.
"Do you have an appointment?"
The woman asked and Daphne rolled her eyes.
"He knows I'm coming."
"Hold on, let me double check that."
She said as she went back to her computer and Daphne rolled her eyes as she walked away. Few seconds later, the receptionist noticed she was already walking towards Xavier's office.
"Ms! I'm sorry you can't go in there!"
She stood up tired and exasperated at stupid clients who believed they had right to enter people's office without a proper appointment.
Meanwhile, Xavier was completely focused on a chart the company's Economic analysts were showing him when Daphne barged in.
All eyes in his office turned to him as he shook his head and cursed under Gus bed. What the hell was she doing in his office? And what the hell was she wearing?
The Economic analysts and even Meyers all turn around to assess Daphne from head to toe as she smiled demurely. The receptionist ran in a few seconds later, tired and breathless.
"I'm so sorry Mr Black, I tried to stop her."
Xavier shrugged.
"It's alright. I know. Can everyone give us a minute please?"
He asked as he closed his laptop and his employees nodded eagerly. Meyers turned to his personal assistant expectantly
"I'll call you when I'm done."
.he said with a nod and Meyers nodded back.
He watched Daphne glare at Meyers and the receptionist as they left and she settled in one of the seats.
"Yea, that's more like it."
She said as she crossed her kegs and pushed out her chest with a haughty smile kung he face.
"The next time you come into my office without my permission to visit me in my company, I will have you thrown out of the building."
He said and Daphne rolled her eyes.
"Calm down. I just needed to see you. You weren't picking my calls."
She said as she pouted her lips and Xavier shrugged.
"I was in a meeting. What do you want?"
Daphne shrugged.
"It's just a doctor's appointment. I want you to come with me since it's our baby."
"When is it?"
"It's this Saturday."
Xavier frowned.
"Saturday? I can't do Saturday. I have plans."
"Why? That's the only time I will be available to do an ultrasound. Don't you want to hear the baby's heartbeat!"
She asked with worry lacing her tone as she searched Xavier's face for answers. His face was totally blank and unreadable and Daphne figured out that it had something to do with Amelia. If they both had plans for the weekend, Daphne was fully intending to destroy whatever plans they had.
Her anger towards Amelia had grown day by day when she figured out that Amelia didn't care about her or her pregnancy. Xavier also didn't seem to care too much about her, only the baby. And all her advances towards him was in vain.
"It's simple really, call the doctor and reschedule."
"No! I'm not doing that. And if you don't want to come that's fine by me."
Daphne said and Xavier shrugged.
"I guess it's settled now."
She narrowed her eyes at him. He wasn't ready for the bomb she was going to throw at him.
"No. It's not okay. I'm sick and tired of you treating me like complete garbage after I've apologised to you "
She said as she started wiping away her imaginary tears.
"Daphne, I've done nothing to you..."
He started and she cut him short.
"If you keep this up, I'm requesting for full custody of our child. and you'll never be able to see him again."
She said boldly and Xavier suddenly became pissed off.
"You do not want to get into a messy custody battle with me. I thought we agreed on sharing custody?"
Daphne shrugged.
"I changed my mind. And if you think you're going to win a custody battle with me, think again. It's the twenty first century, the woman always gets custody."
"And besides, if you want me to agree to us sharing the custody, it has to be on my terms."
Daphne added and Xavier scoffed.
"Why? Why are you suddenly bringing all this up now?"
He asked and she placed a hand on her belly.
"I care a lot about our baby. And I want to give him everything. Since you never wanted this baby, I think he'll be better off with me and me alone."
"You're delusional Daphne! I never said I didn't want the baby."
"Then fucking act like it! Fucking act like you want our baby!"
She screamed and Xavier sighed as he massaged his temple. He had not prepared himself for so much stress.
"What do you want me to do?"
He asked softly.
"First of all, we're both going to that Doctor's appointment on Saturday. Agreed?"
She asked and Xavier shook his head slowly. How was he going to tell Amelia that he was going to cancel their hotel reservations and romantic weekend because of Daphne? She wasn't going to take it well. And Xavier wasn't sure if he was willing to get on Daphne's bad side because of that. She could hold it against him forever.
"I can't promise that but I will try my best."
Daphne narrowed her eyes in anger.
"Okay. Secondly, I've been thinking about this for a while and I know it's the best decision to make."
"What is it?"
He asked with a bored expression on his face. He was tired of all her antics.
"Well, since I'm having your baby and I want you to be included in every step of the way since you're the baby's father, I really think it'll be good for the baby if I move in with you."
She dropped the second bombshell and Xavier opened his mouth to reply, before he could get the words out of his mouth she was already trying to calm him down.
"I'm not doing it for any malicious reasons Xavier. But this baby is ours and this pregnancy is a journey that I want us both to enjoy the experience. You don't visit me or even call to check up on me at all yet you want us to share full custody of the baby. If you want us to share the custody, I'll suggest you start considering me living in your house or you can start preparing for that messy custody battle we talked about."
Xavier's jaw dropped. He was shocked at the actual nerve Daphne had to even utter some of the statements she was making. He was so shocked he was at a loss for words and for a full minute, Xavier had no reply for her.
"Daphne, I just have one thing to say."
He said and she shrugged.
"Well then, say it."
"You must be out of your fucking mind!!!"
"What? She said that?"
Amelia asked as she and Xavier were sprawled on their bed and Xavier recounted his conversation with Daphne.
"Yes, she actually thinks that for some messed up reason I'm going to let her stay here."
Amelia shook her head.
"There is no way in hell she's staying in this house. Never!"
"I know! She has no reason to be here. She's probably just looking for trouble."
"No! She's looking for a way to destroy her relationship. Thank God you told her off. she can go to her doctor's appointment alone."
Amelia said and a long silence passed before Xavier cleared her throat.
"I want to go for her doctor's appointment. I mean, its my baby and all..."
Amelia turned to look at Xavier.
"Really?"
She asked and he slowly nodded.
"I'll feel terrible if I don't go. I know Daphne has her problems but I'm not denying my baby the chance to have his father around."
Where is this new paternal instinct coming from? Amelia asked herself as she turned to stare at Xavier again.
"What's going to happen to our romantic weekend?"
She asked and Xavier turned to Amelia as he caressed her cheek.
"We can always postpone that."
Amelia removed his hands from her face.
"Postpone it??? Why the hell can't she just reschedule it? Why must our plans be put on hold because of her??"
Amelia asked Xavier and he shrugged.
"It really isn't such a big deal. We can have the romantic getaway another week and I'll go to her Doctor's appointment this weekend."
"I don't like how you're giving into her demands. It's so fucking annoying."
Amelia said as she jumped out of the bed.
"You're allowing yourself to be manipulated by this scheming woman who is clearly up to no good."
She added as she walked forward to her vanity mirror.
Xavier sat upright on the bed.
"I'm not allowing myself to be manipulated, I just want to be there for the baby."
Amelia scoffed.
"I can't believe you really think showing up at a doctor's appointment suddenly makes you father of the year? Open your eyes and see what she's trying to do!"
"Amelia, please try to understand."
Amelia turned slowly.
"Understand what? Daphne is trying to manipulate you. She's up to no good and you should be able to see it. She's desperately trying to come between us. That annoying woman would do anything to get you and she's already having you wrapped around her little finger."
"Amelia, we promised that we would get through this. We both promised that we wouldn't let it get to us. Can we just forget about all this right now?"
For a while Amelia said nothing as she cleansed her face with her toner. Xavier was right, they has both made promises that whatever Daphne did wouldn't affect their relationship.
But what was she going to do if Daphne was determined to ruin their relationship?
