Chapter 28 - A Pill Box.
Her hand moved over the canvass in quick strokes. It was almost like her mind was directing her hand without me, odd perhaps, but that was the way it had always been for her. Her hand always moved instinctively to the right spot, building a new picture, often one she had never seen before.
In those fantastical worlds she always felt like she saw reflections of her own mind, the way she thought, but there was something else there too. She didn't know what, perhaps she just could imagine it, but when she painted feel closest to her mind than she had ever been.
The colours she had been drawn to during the last few days had been dark, normally Amelia loved bright and vibrant tones of the earth and rainbows but for some reason she didn't feel like painting picture perfect paintings. She just wanted her mind to run free and create whatever rubbish was lurking around the dark shadows of her mind.
There was a gentle knock on her door and she raised her eyebrow.
"Come in."
She said without once taking her eyes away from the canvass or stopping her painting for once.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you. I brought you some chamomile tea. To calm your nerves."
Millie said as she dropped the tray in the nearest coffee table, shaking slightly. Amelia turned to look at her and she forced a smile on her face. The only reason Millie was still with them was because the Private Investigator felt there might be an attack on her lives. And the legal team believed that since she could be a potential witness she had to be protected.
"Thank you."
Amelia answered and turned back to her painting. There was an uncomfortable silence as Amelia tried to concentrate on her painting while trying to ignore Millie's presence in her art room.
"I heard you didn't have breakfast, is everything alright?"
Millie asked in a shaky voice after a while.
"I had a few granola bars. I'm good."
"Oh! That's good. Is there anything else you need?"
She asked and Amelia rolled her eyes as she dropped her paint brush and turned to Millie with a glare.
"Is there something you want?"
She asked the timid housekeeper who quickly looked down before slowly bringing her head up. There was remorse and regret in her eyes, although that didn't soften Amelia's gaze.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry."
She replied clearly and Amelia unfolded her arms. She didn't really know what to say after her apology. Even though her apology sounded genuine.
"When you first came here... I was surprised."
"I was also a little disappointed. I always felt Xavier could do better than you..."
She confessed as she looked away. Amelia was taken aback. She knew Millie never liked her that much but she never asked why and she certainly didn't think it was because she felt she wasn't good enough. Amelia had never felt inadequate in her whole life, hearing someone say she felt she wasn't good enough was weird and interesting.
"Why?"
Amelia asked and Millie shrugged.
"Because you were arrogant and vain. I didn't think you deserved him. I never liked Daphne... But I felt she was a better choice compared to you. And then... Your smart mouth..."
"Go on."
Amelia said softly as she settled in the nearest sofa and gestured that Millie should sit. Millie sat at the far end of her sofa.
"I misjudged you. A lot. Yes, you were vain and proud. But you have a good heart. And even when I knew I was wrong... It was too late to admit the truth to myself..."
"You reminded me a lot of my sister."
Millie added and Amelia raised her eyebrow.
"What's she like?"
"Exactly like you."
She replied with a smile.
"We stopped talking a long time ago. We had a really bad misunderstanding."
"I'm sorry about that."
Amelia said and Millie nodded.
"Do you know how I met Xavier?"
Amelia asked out of the blues and Millie shook her head.
Amelia laughed.
"Oh you wouldn't believe it! It's the wildest story I have..."
"I met Xavier on my birthday, in a club hallway and we had sex in the club's bathroom right away!"
Millie's gasp sent Amelia howling, she looked so shocked for the first few seconds before she started trying hard to control her reaction but Amelia already saw her first reaction.
"I know! It's crazy! Like, the craziest thing I've ever done!"
Amelia exclaimed and Millie laughed.
"I'd normally wait till like the third date before going down on any guy but I don't know... Xavier was different...and sometimes I look back at the memory and I wonder how it'll all be if we didn't have that wild one night stand."
"What did you think?"
Millie asked and Amelia shrugged.
"We'll probably have a much complicated marriage. And we might have broken things off..."
"The one night stand really helped you know..."
Amelia added and Millie shook her head in confusion and Amelia groaned.
"Ugh! Okay! Look at it this way... I mean, it did a lot for our sexual chemistry. A lot!"
Amelia exclaimed and Millie chuckled.
"I'm so sorry for all the horrible things I did to you."
Amelia nodded.
"I think Xavier's more hurt about it than I am. You were family to him... And now... I can't help but think of how he must feel about you."
She said softly as she remembered how angry Xavier had been. He had been prepared to throw Millie out of their home and for some reason that shocked her as much as it shocked Xavier, Amelia had pleaded for Xavier to let her stay till everything was over.
"I know. I'm disappointed in myself."
Millie replied as she fiddled with her clothes. Amelia touched her shoulder slightly.
"Wherever you go, just make better choices. That's all I can tell you. Trust me, I know a lot about making bad choices..."
Millie nodded.
"And, try and reconcile with your sister. I don't know what happened between you two but let's be honest, life is way too short to hold so many grudges. Make peace with her."
Amelia said and Millie nodded.
"Thank you."
She said softly as she sniffed.
Amelia nodded.
"You're welcome."
She replied with a small smile, feeling a little relieved about everything. Millie looked up and focused on her painting.
She tilted her head to get a better look.
"What is that?"
She asked and Amelia looked at the painting. She hadn't noticed it earlier, but it really didn't look like much. If she was being honest, it looked like a could of chicken scratches made with dark paint.
"I have no idea."
"Are you sure he's going to do it?"
Nina asked as she sprawled on Daphne's bed. Her dark hair was in a high bun while she waited for Daphne to get dressed and ready for an all white party at the beach.
"Well, I'm assuming he will. He has to... He's probably thinking about it."
She said as she went into her closet.
Nina frowned as she propped her head on her shoulder.
"I don't feel too good about this."
"Ugh!!" Daphne groaned as she came out of her closet with a pair of heels.
"I mean, two things can happen, she can miscarry or she won't. Although I'm hoping for the former."
Nina nodded.
"Okay! Okay! What if they find out abortion pills were involved?"
Daphne shrugged.
"A lot of people miscarry. It's almost a natural occurrence. Let's hope they won't notice that and if they do, there really isn't much they can do about it."
Daphne had blatantly lied to Lorenzo. He was just pawn in another game she was playing. After noticing that Millie was avoiding her calls and pestering her for time and more information when she finally deemed it necessary to pick her calls Daphne had suspected that Millie was working with Amelia and Lorenzo. Seeing Lorenzo and Amelia had even made it worse. Things were getting out of hand and Xavier not talking to her could only mean that her secret was out.
And she had to do something, fast.
She had originally thought about the kidnapping idea, but it was too risky. Especially for someone as famous and wealthy as Amelia. The fact that Amelia moved with security made it harder. Daphne knew that Xavier would move heaven and earth just to get Amelia back and she didn't have the time nor the resources to pull such a stunt.
But one thing she found out was that out of everything that was happening, she was more angry with the fact that Amelia was having Xavier's baby. She knew it was inevitable, she knew it would have happened one day, but she never expected it to be so soon. It hurt her that Xavier would shower all the love and attention she wanted for herself on Amelia and her baby.
She wanted everything Amelia had but it was impossible for her to get it.
And she even felt more envious than before, more than anything she wanted Amelia to lose the pregnancy. But she couldn't keep on wishing and hoping that it would happen. She had to take action.
And Lorenzo was the perfect person she could use. All he had to do was find a way to give her the pills and they would do their work once they were in her bloodstream.
She knew Amelia would never be able to point Lorenzo as the culprit, because he had given her information that made her trust him, but just in case she did, Daphne was prepared to deny having anything to do with it till her last breath.
"Was it necessary to give Lorenzo the abortion pills?"
Nina asked out of the blues and Daphne snapped out of her thoughts.
"Yes. It'll make me very happy to see her depressed and sad."
Daphne answered and Nina shook her head.
"I don't know. I still feel like it's a bad idea..."
Daphne shrugged.
"People abort everyday! It's no big deal. They might have kids in the future although I'm hoping this one is traumatising and damaging enough for them not to try in a long while."
Daphne said with a smile as she went to her vanity mirror.
"And Lorenzo? Will he do it?"
Daphne shrugged.
"He took the pills. He most likely will. Poor idiot thinks we're kidnapping her..."
"What if he doesn't?"
Nina asked and Daphne sighed.
"I'll keep trying."
"Are you that determined to ruin them?"
Nina asked and Daphne turned to face her friend.
"You don't know how much my blood boils when I see them together. I hate her. I wouldn't mind watching her suffer for as long as she can."
She turned back to her vanity mirror while Nina blinked rapidly, mildly spooked by her friend's words. She knew she had helped Daphne with a lot of shady stuff in the past but she knew the hatred Daphne was feeling wasn't good for her and it seemed to be getting worse with time.
It was time for Daphne to take her pills. The pills were for her high blood pressure which made her doctor label her pregnancy as high risk. Especially since she had it before getting pregnant. It was something she had discovered the year before and her doctor had warned her but she didn't take it too seriously till her doctor declared her pregnancy high risk.
She picked up one of the pill boxes while watching her friend Nina stare at her with a funny look.
"What's the problem?"
She asked Nina as she threw the pills in her mouth without care and picked up the glass of water in front of her vanity mirror.
She took a few mouthfuls and turned back to her friend was still staring at her.
"What?"
She snapped and Nina shrugged.
"I'm just worried about you..."
Nina trailed off and Daphne chuckled.
"Yea don't worry about me. I'll be fine when Amelia finally has that miscarriage."
