Chapter 29
Muse
Finally, my mother, my sister Audrey and I arrived at Monsieur Hawam's. As me at my arrival in this house, they felt so amazed admiring this huge palace.
"You're kidding me Muse! Are you sure we're at the right place in this gigantic castle?" My sister asked me marvelled.
"Yeah, for sure! Don't bother, I can understand your astonishment very well, since I felt the same as you when I came here six years ago." I replied to her with an amusing ton.
"I did not know such a luxury could exist!"
Audrey kept exclaiming for a long time. I was just smiling, saying nothing more whereas my mother kept silent. However, I could stars stars in her eyes, showing she was impressed by my father's imposing house. Everything has been alright with Mary and my father. They accepted my family as if they were theirs, and I felt warm in my heart.
As soon as we arrived, I took my mother to the hospital the next day for a general assessment and above all, for her care, given that she is diabetic. The hospital I took her to is a new hospital. My father recommended it to me because it specializes in chronic diseases. At first glance, the welcome is warm and cleanliness is also essential. I really appreciated how we were welcomed. After a general assessment of his state of health, my mother and I return home. We'll go back and take the results in two days. As for me, tomorrow I'm going to take service at work. I also told my father about my sister and asked him if he could find her a job. He promised me he would. When we were at the table taking the evening meal, he took the opportunity to ask her about her training.
"So Audrey, what is your new academic and what subject did you study?"
"I studied computer science in a higher training school and I obtained a BTS." Audrey responds between bites.
"Very well, in this case, you will work in my company 'Tech'. I am the General Manager in this company. It offers as services the installation of computer networks. You will therefore be under my responsibility. For First of all, I will place you under the responsibility of the HRD. He will be able to direct you to the position that is in line with your training. So you must prepare yourself so that tomorrow you will show up for work."
Audrey is so happy to hear this news that she almost jumps on her chair.
"Thank you very much Mr. Hawam! You just got me out of unemployment in the blink of an eye, when I have been looking for work for years in vain." Audrey replies with enthusiasm in her voice.
The evening on very cheerful. We went to sleep that night with a positive touch. However, in the morning when I went to see my father in his room to tell him about my taking up duty this morning, I found him lying in the blanket. It's not his habit to stay in bed at such an hour. My father always has a morning routine that I master very well. Thus, he gets up at dawn, says his morning prayer, then he goes to his office to concentrate on the files he is supposed to deal with at work during the day. That's why seeing him in bed at this time worries me a bit. Already by the first look I gave him, he was not at all well. So I run to her in a panic, then I kneel by her bed and ask her in a worried voice.
"Dad, what's wrong with you? Why are you shaking so much?"
"Daughter, I don't feel well. I have a fever and I feel like my temperature is high." My being answers me in a feverish voice. I touch her face and bare neck. Indeed, its temperature is very high. She is hot. As I worry about what I can do to lower his temperature, he suddenly begins to convulse.
I go out in a panic to call my sister.
"What is it Muse? Where are you going in a hurry?"
It's my mother who has just come out of her room. She meets me in the hallway going to Audrey's room.
"Mom, my father..." That's all I could get out of my mouth.
Audrey joins us and we immediately go to my father's room. I wanted to drive him to the hospital with my sister only, but my mother insisted on accompanying us.
"You are not able to drive in your state Muse. I will accompany you to the hospital and in addition, there are administrative formalities to be completed. You are very affected, you will not be able to take care of it on your own ."
We all go out together the caretaker carries my father and puts him in the car. We head towards the hospital and thank God there is no traffic jam at this time of the morning. Indeed, the majority of people are still at home. I'm sitting in the car in tears. My God, let it be nothing serious! I can't bear to lose this new father that God has put in my path. But what happened to him? He was, however, in good health last night before going to sleep. I ask myself so many questions about what could be the cause of this evil. So we arrive at the hospital in record time. My father was admitted to the emergency room and immediately taken care of. They try to stabilize it until a certain time. As for me, I'm sitting in the hallway praying and crying at the same time. I'm so scared that something bad will happen to her. Provided that he gets up quickly. My mother and my sister are trying somehow to reassure me.
"Don't worry darling, he'll get over it quickly, you'll see. You just have to see him to know he's a strong man." My mother said to me as she sat next to me in the hallway of the hospital.
"Yes Muse, mum is right. I'm sure Mr. Hawam is nothing serious." Audrey adds in support of my mother. However, despite their comforting words, I am no less worried. These words, instead of reassuring me, put me in such anguish that I respond to them by crying.
"No, I'm not sure what you're saying. Since I've known my father, he's never been sick. He's not the type to be bothered by little discomforts. If this illness has come in bed, that only means one thing, it's a pretty serious illness."
After more than an hour without hearing from my father, the doctor who was taking care of him when we arrived finally comes out. I jumped up from the bench I was sitting on to meet him. My heartbeat quickens when I see the look on his face. In fact, it doesn't bode well.
"So doctor, how is he?" I hasten to ask him, my soul impatient.
"To be frank with you, your father missed the worst. He came close to having a stroke. Fortunately, you quickly took him to the hospital. Otherwise, the worst could have happened." The doctor answers me seriously.
"God be praised!" I say it with a sigh of relief. Then I turn to the doctor and ask him again
"Does that mean he's out of harm's way and there's nothing to worry about now?"
"Unfortunately not. Your father has a lack of blood and needs to be transfused immediately. Blood donors are needed immediately." The doctor answers me with a lively tone.
"Of course doctor, I can give my blood. Come on now, I'll do it." I reply looking very engaged. However, the doctor's less enthusiastic look intrigues me, prompting me to ask him
"But why are you still there doctor? Let's not waste time lest my father's situation get worse."
"It's true doctor, I can donate blood too." Audrey comes to support my comments. The doctor seems even less excited. So he replies with a calm air
"Calm down girls. It's good that you are willing to donate blood. However, things are a bit more complex than that."
I don't understand why the doctor complicates things so much. What more does he want blood donors than us? I then question him, losing patience.
"But doctor, what's so complicated about donating blood? Can you be more specific please?"
"Actually, young lady, the problem lies in the compatibility of blood groups. Your father is of the O- group. It's a rather difficult group to find."
"Oh my God! So what are we going to do?" I ask him in panic.
"We will look. Ask around you, as well as in your family if we can find this group." He answers me simply as if things were as easy as that. Where am I going to turn right now to look for people with this blood type? It would be like looking for a needle in the hay.
"But doctor, don't you have a blood bank in this hospital? Why not use it in this case?" It's my mother who asks him the question this time.
"I'm sorry Madam, but this group, due to its rarity, is generally absent in the blood bank of this hospital." The doctor responds with a sorry face, while I feel devastated.
