Chapter 69

Sandra
Euniel finally agreed to let me stay with him until the end of his two days here. We made up and even had sex the last night we spent in this house. Great was my joy when I woke up. I got up early, made breakfast and we ate like the good old days.
"I missed this atmosphere a lot my love. We should put it back more often."
"Yes, you're right !"
"Sweetheart, do you remember how we lived in harmony before? Everything was going well between us. We didn't have fights like we do now."
"Yeah, everything was quiet between us."
"And you know why things got out of hand between us overnight?"
"I don't know. Maybe because you got pregnant and we had to constantly think about marriage?! I think it's that pressure that fathered us."
"No darling! My pregnancy has nothing to do with the tensions that exist in our relationship. Remember that long before I got pregnant, you were already in agreement that we get married."
I encourage him to think like me. He has to see that Muse is a plague and he has to avoid her like the plague.
"Ah... If you say so." He replied casually.
"I know the cause of all our problems. I'll tell you where all our problems started." I insisted without letting go.
"Ah yes? I'm listening to you then."
"Well, I think it was Muse who caused so much misunderstanding between you and me."
Euniel wrinkles his face at my accusations.
"Why do you say that ?" He asks me angry.
"Open your eyes my dear. Before Muse came back from Britain, don't you remember how we lived? There was understanding and harmony between us. We never had these little quarrels all the time. But as soon as she got home, everything went into a spin between us. You only have that name in your mouth. Muse in the morning, Muse at noon, Muse in the evening. This girl didn't tell us. brought nothing but problems since she got back."
"I admit that you are right on one point. Our relationship has been having problems for some time. However, is it Muse's fault?"
"Do you agree with me that it's since Muse's return that our problems started?"
"Perhaps..." Euniel stammers prevaricatingly.
"Yes or no did the problems start well after his return?" I insist without letting go.
"Well, maybe you're right..."
"Very well! Now I have something to ask you."
"Ah yes? I'm listening to you." He replies, looking at me carefully.
"What if we set a date for our wedding? You know my belly is already growing and it will be difficult for us to get married when it is very visible. Besides, my parents are going to complicate things for us when my belly is visible. It would be better for us to get married real soon before my belly gets big."
"Agreed!"
"Excuse me? Are you serious? Do you agree to set a date for our wedding?" I questioned him with great enthusiasm.
"Yes. That's what you want isn't it?"
"Of course my darling! What date do you propose then?"
"You can find a date and take care of everything. I don't see any problem with you going to stop as a wedding program. You have carte blanche. I will also provide you with a bank card that you are going to use for the wedding preparations."
What I hear makes me crazy.
Muse
It's already been a week since Euniel was supposed to be back. We had agreed that we were going to see each other when he got back. However, for already a week, he has not given any news. I wonder why he didn't call me. I don't think he could have stayed with his father all this time. Anyway, I plan to visit him at his place of duty this morning before I go to work.
As planned, I stop at Euniel's hospital and go to his office. Fortunately, I find him alone in his office.
"Hello Euniel!" I tell him going to take a seat in front of his office.
"Hello Muse!" He answers me not very enthusiastic.
I wonder why he looks tense? What is this due to? I have never seen Euniel greet me with such a neutral air.
"You're okay?" I ask him, looking him over.
"Yes, thank you! What's your visit worth to me?" He replied casually.
"Why are you so indifferent to me? Is there a problem?"
"No, not at all. It's just that I'm going to start getting visitors soon and I guess you have to go to work too?!"
The tone in which Euniel speaks to me, as well as the look he gives me, leave me perplexed. He has never been so cold towards me.
"It's very obvious that you have something against me. It looks like you're angry. But anyway, I came to see if you were back already."
"Ah yes? And why do you want to know if I'm back? Are you spying on me or what?" Euniel questions me, looking at me suspiciously.
"I don't understand Euniel. Why this wary look? Why are you talking about spying on you? Don't you think you're going a bit overboard?"
"I don't know. I just said it like that. It escaped me."
"If you say so. But wasn't it you who gave me your word that we should meet when you get back? We were supposed to talk about the situation on the death of your father and update everything ."
"Maybe, but I've changed my mind. I prefer to do my research on my own."
"Ah? And for what reason? Didn't we start working together from the beginning? Why did you decide to change your mind at the last minute like this? What happened?"
I didn't understand Euniel's attitude. He seemed so suspicious. Why this sudden change?
"Nothing happened. I just think it would be better if I worked alone. It's true, why go to so much trouble looking for someone who means nothing to you. It's my mother, she doesn't It's nothing to you. And as such, I want to focus on my quest."
"What you tell me offends me a lot. How can you say such things? I thought we were more than friends and always there for each other. And your father? You push him aside also in your life? Can you at least explain to me what's wrong?"
"Very well. If you want to know everything, I find that several people are involved in this case and there may be information leaks without me knowing who is letting this information. Before Sandra tells me open your eyes to this..."
"Sandra? What does she have to do with this?" I questioned him, cutting him off. I am very surprised.
"Sandra is my fiancée and we plan to get married in a month. I think I was wrong to put her aside and suspect her, when all she ever wanted was my happiness ."
"I see... You found each other well." I replied with a look full of disappointment.
"Listen Muse, if I'm the only one handling this situation, I'll know how to prevent confidential information from being leaked."
What Euniel tells me offends me to my core. I would never have believed him capable of that. I hold myself back a lot so as not to shed tears.
"You know what Euniel, I really believed that you were different from the others, but I realize that I was seriously wrong about your case. Not only are you a very cowardly man, you are also selfish and mean. Which hurts me the most is that I could have entrusted my soul to you without any hesitation. But I am delighted that you are revealing your true colors right now."
I take a breath and run my hand through my hair, lifting my head to fight back the tears that threaten to come out. I take up the bitter tone again.
"You know Euniel, I would have been ready to throw myself into a well for me. You don't realize the important place you had in my eyes and in my heart. You have always been there for me and you have helped me to go through the most difficult stage of my life. And what I wanted the most was to be there for you too. You were my hero. But now, you just canceled everything out of hand. . Know that I wish you all the happiness in the world with Sandra. I'm leaving now." I conclude by wiping with the back of my hand the tears that have finally flooded my cheeks.
I got up looking at Euniel with great disappointment. He looks sorry and whispers to me
"Muse..."
I turn around and take the exit without giving him time to say a word.
