Chapter 66
Sandra
I have to quickly find a good excuse to go out to Euniel right away, at the risk of blowing my cover. The suspicious look he's giving me right now doesn't mean anything to me. He stares at me straight in the eye without giving me time to think to come up with a good line. I suddenly get nervous, which doesn't help much. I think quickly to find something to say to him.
"Uh... Actually, you told me that you found your father dead and that he was shot." I somehow manage to tell him.
"No, I don't recall giving you that information. I just told you that I found him dead. I didn't mention any bullets fired at him." He replied in a firm tone.
I take two steps back, my heart racing. Euniel is more and more suspicious in his words and his gaze on me. Euniel approaches me without taking his eyes off me.
"Of course I did! You told me when you came. Why am I going to lie to you? And how do you think I knew he was shot if you hadn't say that?" I continued to deny with my heart racing.
"I don't know. You tell me." Euniel insists without letting go.
His gaze on me is very suspicious, which scares me a lot. I let out a nervous smile and retort.
"Stop insinuating nonsense. You become ridiculous at the end! How can you think things against me? This fatigue must play tricks on you and make you paranoid. I repeat it to you, it is you who m You said your father was shot. Stop imagining things!"
Euniel looks at me for a moment, not knowing what to say. It seems that my words have effects on him. His gaze on me is less suspicious. Then he ends up saying after a sigh
"You may be right. I have to make up my mind for nothing. I have to go and rest. Last night, I couldn't really sleep. I'm going to have to leave you to get into my bedroom."
He continued like this in his room, leaving me alone. I heave a sigh of relief. I was narrowly saved. I have to be more careful not to do another one of those stupid things next time. Euniel is not fooled. On the contrary, he is very intelligent. Another one of that mistake, I'm sure he'll realize something's wrong and he'll suspect me of being involved in his mother's disappearance. So I have to be more careful. I don't need that right now, when I'm on the verge of achieving my goals, Euniel starts to suspect me and investigate me. It's really not in my interest for him to find out the truth about me. Everything must be running smoothly between us. It's only a matter of time until it's all over.
Right now, I have to go home first and let him rest. I need to find something fast to keep Euniel and Muse away forever. I can't believe that despite everything I've already done, they're still so tight. This Muse, always prowling around to put spokes in the wheels. I wonder how to keep them away from each other. This complicity must end immediately, lest it harm our future plans and projects.
Muse
A week passed and we were already on the day of Ethan's father's funeral. My father and I came to assist Euniel in this painful situation. Everything happens in the family concession of Euniel's father. I took it upon myself to organize everything so that Euniel did not have to be inconvenienced further. He had also delegated everything to me to take care of everything. It was the least I could do right now when he needed me so badly. It was my way of supporting him. However, I managed to stay very far from him. Everything was happening remotely and I was managing everything in the background. I was very self-effacing and had hired organizational services to handle each commission. Sandra meanwhile, was close to Euniel without leaving her sole. It looked like it was going to volatilize. Good for that matter, because I had no intention of being alone with Euniel. She behaved with me as if I were her co-wife. She gave me nasty looks often. But I didn't mean any harm to him. On the contrary, I managed to be as far away as possible from her fiancé so as not to disturb her. But she barely spoke to me.
On the day of the burial, there was a ceremony organized during which Charles' family and loved ones were expected to intervene and bear witness to his memory. Despite his messy life, he still had a positive impact on lives and people testified for him. The most emotional moment was when Euniel spoke. He testified without lying. He brought out this disengaged man that was his father, but he did not forget the love that united them. Everything was going well until the end. At one point, when people were getting up to accompany the body to the burial, something strange caught my attention. Indeed, I see a woman who looks exactly like Pauline. Her head is covered by a scarf, but I was able to recognize her. All of a sudden, questions start swirling around in my head. What is she doing there? Where does she know Charles? It's curious. I wanted to get up to go to her, but I see her taking the exit. It looked like she saw someone she saw something and she's trying to run away. Before she leaves, I see Euniel intercept her at the exit. I can see them from where I am sitting. They exchange a few words. I can read anxiety and nervousness in Pauline's gestures. Finally, she leaves quickly and I haven't seen her again during the whole funeral ceremony. Seeing her there woke up in me a lot of painful memories that I thought were buried inside me. This woman of an extraordinary wickedness marked me negatively for life. I certainly focused on Euniel's quest to get mama out of the brothel, but I didn't forget my revenge on Pauline and Pen. I haven't forgotten all the harm they did to me. I'm going to make them pay for all the tears I've shed because of them.
The funeral ceremony for Charles' father went well overall.
"Thank you for everything Muse! I don't know what I could have done without you. You have been a great help to me." Euniel tells me when everyone had already returned.
"Please! It's the least I can do at this difficult time for you."
"I guess you have to go home now?!"
"Yes not you?"
"No. I'm going to stay here for two more days. I'm going to put away my dad's things and see what to do with this house." he tells me.
"I understand. A lot of courage to you!"
"Thank you!"
"I would like to ask you a question, if you don't mind." I tell him hesitantly.
"Of course, you can ask me anything you want." Euniel hastened to say.
"I saw you talking to a woman at the end of the funeral mass."
Euniel tries to remember who I'm talking about.
"I don't remember who you're talking about. I spoke to several people today and I can't remember who you're talking about."
"The lady had a scarf over her face, as if she wanted to hide. She had on a long black dress. She has a yellow complexion due to the use of whitening products. She is tall and of medium build. ..."
"Are you talking about this woman... The one I always met at my father's house when I came to his house..."
"Wait, are you talking about Pauline here?!" I interrupted him surprised at what he had just told me.
"Yes, her name is Pauline. I had already heard my father call her that. It is Pauline." Euniel replied confidently.
"But what would Pauline do at your father's? Where do they know each other?" I questioned him thoughtfully.
"I don't know. But they seemed to know each other very well. I would even say that she should have a great influence on him. As soon as she was there, he retracted and did not want to tell me anything more. " Euniel told me.
"Pauline!" I whispered.
"Why are you asking me these questions? Do you know her?"
"More than you can imagine. She is the woman who has hurt me the most in my life. It was my uncle's wife who chased me out of her house with the complicity of her lover." I told Euniel with a bitterness in my throat.
"Oh! What a coincidence! It's all the same curious!" Euniel exclaimed.
"Yes, very curious and I would like to know what business Pauline could be up to with your father. Who knows, maybe she knows some information about your mother."
"I am convinced that she knows a lot. Her presence at my father's house each time I came to ask her for information about my mother was not insignificant."
"Do you think she's involved in this story?" I questioned him curiously.
"I don't know too much. However, during one of my visits to my father, we were talking about my mother and he was ready to accept my offer to give me the information I needed. I needed to find my mother. However, this woman showed up just then and seemed to be rushing to join us. She insisted on speaking to my father. Despite my request that she speak to him when we were done to discuss, she objected and my father followed him, as if he was afraid of her. When he returned, my father's face had changed. He had categorically denied knowing anything about the my mother's departure. Despite my pleas to get him off the hook, he remained unmoved. I then understood that this woman had something to do with it. And this morning, when she realized that I I recognized her at the funeral mass ceremony, she hurried out, but I followed her. She seemed very nervous and introduced me to b deeply her condolences then she left."
What Euniel tells me should only reinforce the suspicions I have towards Pauline.
"This woman is evil incarnate and is always where the evil is. I wouldn't be surprised if she got involved in this."
"I think we should dig that lead."
"Of course! But for now, you have to finish here and go home first. I'm going to share our suspicions with Dad and we'll discuss it." I concluded.
