Emily was waiting for Logan in front of the pack library, she was hoping to get more information on the things they had found in their books about ghouls. She had read her father's journal cover to cover and he didn't say much. He probably had not known much or even if he had, it had not made it into the books.
Then there was Finn who was the red card in all this, a werewolf hunter who was able to command ghouls. Normally they were humans a rare select few humans who thought that Were should be killed and so far there were not many of them.
" You should be asleep" someone muttered and she looked up, to find Bruce, Logan's beta lounging in the hallway
" I was too anxious to sleep" she muttered and he smiled
" As far as we know there is nothing here, I've spoken to the Alpha about going out of town. Maybe a few Were-libraries would work to get what we're looking for " he replied and she nodded
" That would be fine "
" So who is going on this trip," she asked
" I am, lucky you right" Aspen muttered hanging her arm around her neck. She hissed in pain
" You have got to be kidding me, that hurts " Emily groaned and she looked away from her to Bruce who was quiet and looked suspiciously flushed
" Good morning Aspen " he muttered and she smiled at him
" Morning love, where is the alpha we need to get going"
" I'm here before you all get your panties in a twist " he strode forward looking as handsome as always, his blonde hair tied at the back of his head and his eyes though they looked tired glinted in the early morning light. She wanted to say something flirty. She wanted to ask him how he was. She wanted to ask him to kiss her but all she ended up saying was
" Hi," she almost sunk into the floor at the stupidest and most cliche sentence in the entire universe. Luckily no one said a word and allowed her to pretend she wasn't acting like a nervous high school girl with a crush.
" I heard we're going on a trip" she muttered and he laughed
" We are going, you will be staying here " he offered and she looked at him frowning
" Says who," she asked and he sighed
" Emily, we need you to stay here, we can't guarantee where we are going. They were creatures we will find there, especially since we can't scent them if they aren't wolves" he mumbled and she nodded
" Which is why I want to go with you to the libraries and not anywhere else" she hissed and he sighed
" Is there any hope of dissuading you " be asked finally and she shook her head. He nodded in a certain annoyance mixed with defeat
" We'll leave soon, but first I want to see the place"
We left a week after Logan had agreed to her scheme. Emily knew that he wasn't quite certain how it would work she could see it in his eyes when he looked to the car, then me. We were waiting for Aspen and Bruce a few others wanted to come but Logan wanted a small crowd so we were only going to be four on this trip.
If Emily had expected anything different from the announcement of the fact that we were leaving to find a psychotic homicidal, she got nothing. Of course, she was a little shocked as well. It was just a normal morning; there was no howling wind or extra sunlight.
Sam had come over the night before to her after she had said a brief goodbye to her mother he was annoyed that he couldn't come, annoyed that she had to go. Her mother seemed to be willing to go with the flow and just ignore it and Emily had tried to put her at ease with the absence.
Emily had made dinner to placate Sam, and they had talked far into the night. When they finally decided to rest, she used her bedroom while Sam slept in the living room just before she was able to go to sleep.
She wandered to the room and opened the door
."Are you okay?" She asked as he lay on the bed she had given him.
He took in the question, turning around to face me
. "Emily, are you sure about this, " he asked and she sighed sitting on the couch.
" I'm not sure what you want me to say" She shrugged and he sighed
" Emi," he said softly, and she sighed.
"It will be fine," she told him hoping to assuage his fear because although he was scared and she was realizing that she was too, she still wasn't sure what she felt about this trip except that it was a chance to learn.
He sighed and laid back down in the bedding
" Please take care of Mom" she muttered and he nodded
" I will" She went to her room and got into bed but she couldn't fall asleep immediately sometimes she thought she was happy. Emily liked to believe that there was a chance for she was and mostly she was but then she'd remember random things, feelings, and emotions from time with Logan time she wanted to spend with him, and the fact that she could not do so.
Each time the decision to pretend they were just friends ate at her mocked her for the lies they were as well as the fact that Emily the more time she spent was desperately in love with Logan Axel.
What are you going to do when he finds someone else? Her treacherous mind asked
."I don't know; I don't." she replied in the dark and sometimes she hated him, for it.
She sighed, turning to face the wall, her eyes closing in the act of sleep even though she stayed awake far longer than was healthy falling asleep close to midnight; there were no dreams or vision, and now it was morning and she stood in front of the library door waiting.
Emily could see a bright ray of dawn's light climbing the clouds like vengeful fairies which meant everyone was up or should be up anyway.
Bruce and Aspen arrived together both already bickering like five-year-old children intent on having their way with something.
"So we're going through here," Bruce said pointing to a map while slinging a duffel bag over his shoulder. Logan had one as well; when she had asked he said it contained guns and ammunition for when they weren't able to shift. It wasn't anything that could kill someone, just enough to paralyze humans and put down rogues for good. She wondered if the bags the two newcomers wore had the same thing.
" goddess how can you be that geographically challenged" Aspen muttered as if done with him even though she could see the small smile on his face as she watched him shuffle the map.
" I asked for your help, you can keep the insults " he huffed and she sighed taking the map from him.
"Yes, we're going here, " she said pointing to a different point in the map
" From that point, we go on foot, for the sensitivity of the locals " she answered, more to her than Bruce at her confused frown, rubbing her sweaty palm against her jeans, Emily asked
"That's dangerous." Logan nodded
, "But it will save us time. we need the trust of these people we can't be barging into their homes."
Emily nodded towards the car
"Can we get going then? We need to find a library," Emily muttered, and Logan smiled at her.
"There's a library before we leave town. We'll start there since it will give us more places to go?" he asked. Emily nodded feeling a bit restless,
"Yes, I'd like to go to the library. Maybe we can find something there to help us and if we don't we can make some arrangements for it ." She replied, and he grabbed his duffel bag and looked at Bruce nodding to the car.
Aspen looked at her
" We're the back seat babies" she huffed
Emily tugged the door open as Bruce placed the keys in Logan's outstretched palm after much grumbling and a long production out of it, turning to Aspen she asked
" Are they this childish?" she asked gesturing to them.
" They're worse" she muttered pulling open the door and gesturing towards it.
They inched forward and got into the car, as she pulled the door inward, and it clicked shut. Logan grimaced for some unknown reason but got in, and they started their journey
.It took us all day to drive downtown; people waved and stopped us to give us food and water someone even thought we'd need a hunting trap because we had two of the best hunters in the car with us three if you counted Bruce then we were unstoppable was extremely funny and it was amusing to watch.
Logan stopped us at a motel called Mommy Place which was a little to far fetched since the place had barely any motherly feel to it, it was a little too run down and tacky and looked more like a very poorly managed apartment complex than an actual home
"Let's get some rooms first." Bruce huffed and Logan took her hand in his. Emily struggled not to flinch, and they followed the corridor
."We need a room," Logan told the receptionist. She huffed in annoyance which was too much of a stretch considering the room wasn't all that much.
She rose from her seat taking her time and gestured for us to follow her. The rooms the further we got were not quite as horrid as the outside portrayed quite beautifully, with stained blue glass windows and simple brown doors with Brad's knobs. They strode out of the main hall into a smaller corridor, where they found a line of doors. The receptionist pushed a few which let them find pristine bedrooms. He picked one and gestured to the next one for Bruce
He hefted her and his bags into their room. It was a large, simple room with a simple bed in the middle. Emily was surprised at the intricate details of the wooden bed frame. She was also nervous about sharing a room with him, she knew that he wouldn't do anything but it didn't stop her heart from beating too fast.
He pulled back from her as if he had just realized they were too close, and Emily tried not to sigh audibly
."Let's go," he whispered. I dropped my bag and followed him, we needed to get back to our search
We emerged from the room and met Bruce and Aspen in the corridor already bickering.
"Alright, let's do research," he offered, and the others nodded.
The library was across the street and they all crossed the street, to find the library on a whole floor of its own in a building of artifacts and history
."So we want to find anything in history books about hunters and their, descendants, living and dead, and then we want to see if we can find maps for all were creatures and their hidden locations," Emily murmured.
"That's fine, simple police work. I hope you can handle it." Bruce teased Logan
" You're saying I can't do it," he groused, and Bruce grinned.
"Well, you are the paper pusher on our team. The investigative work may be a tad difficult for you." He muttered and Logan glared at her
"I'll start here." He said, shooting him an irritated look and laughing. Emily gestured
"I'll follow the grumpy man."
They separated briefly, picking books. Emily took a book from the shelf and scanned it, then pushed it back. The first two books were written in English, the others weren't and she took them with her.
Emily glanced at the shelf, then stopped at a book that seemed to be half an inch with an illustration of the star she picked it off the shelf and opened it scanning the first page she flipped another page, grimaced at some anatomical drawings but carried on.
"What did you find " Emily jerked looking over her shoulder to see Aspen's sharp gaze.
