The Reconciliation

Bruce held her hand beneath the moonlight, this was familiar all this scenes were familiar but yet there should not be, she knew she was wrong but it felt so good to stay in the dreams. Where he was alive and she had the chance to pretend to be with him.
She did not love him, but she missed him had known him and he had been her closest friend the thing that had made the most sense in the world
His hand raised to her cheeks as he cupped them looking into her eyes with all the love she knew he felt for her, all the love she knew but did not feel for him– not in the way he wanted.
"You are so beautiful," he whispered and she could see as he fought the urge to kiss her , she remembered all the ways how he had treated her, all this while and while she was not his mate and maybe she could have been his mate, married him when over time she didn't find her mate.
His warm touch and the way he had protected her
."I love you," he whispered as if he were unable to help himself. She grabbed his hand trying not to cry, she couldn't let him see her cry in this moment not when she might not see him again.
He pulled her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss on her fingers. It was a sweet gesture, and she knew it was a dream so she melted into him. Aspen smiled at him, caressing his cheek when he started to bleed from his forehead, blood trailing over his cheek down his face into his neck ,she pulled him into a kiss as if that would keep her with him but it didn't and then he vanished suddenly, like a mist. Aspen turned anxiously, looking for him.
"Bruce , Bruce , where are you?" Aspen called out frantically, but he was just gone.
The scene changed, and the idyllic garden became a wasteland, with green grass stained red with blood and bodies laid lifeless and wasted. The scene was familiar, just like everything else in this godforsaken dream she was back at the clearing Aspen saw the mangled bodies of werewolves scattered across the floor and then she saw him ,Bruce just like she had seen him last that day his body stained with blood and welts , her eyes felt blank. Maybe it was because she couldn't see anything but that could be the tears but maybe it was because even as she tried to focus on anything around her on anything in this place all she could see was water and then him.
For her it was like she stood in the distance it felt that way to her. She stood there bloodied and beaten and somehow, knew in her gut, there was no winning this. That was her standing off in the distance looking out to a place that was empty
"Please stop waiting." She called, trying to warn herself, trying to run towards her, but no matter the distance Aspen covered, it still seemed to be too far away.
It was like life was being drawn out of her, she could see it happen right in front of her eyes.
Aspen scurried over to Bruce finally jolted out of her daze she pulled her into her arms holding him close
"No, no, no, don't do this," Aspen sobbed brokenly.

"I – I love you " he stuttered, blood pouring down his lips, his eyes fluttering shut, and the face changed, turning to Logan, then my mother and then back to Bruce all right in front of me, blood still staining his face.
She jerked awake from bed and looked around breathing hard.
The same dream over and over again for days or was it hours. She was so tired of everything and she wanted it to be all done but it couldn't be Bruce was dead and that was the truth.
She was scarred and that was the truth.
She looked to the side of the infirmary, where Emily was supposed to be, where she lay but the bed was empty so she sat up leaning on the head of the bed and taking little calming breaths trying to focus. It didn't take too long
She stood from the bed and came face to face with Emily
" You're awake " she mumbled and she nodded her head
" Yeah and so are you" she grinned
" Yep, Bruce "she asked
" Is somewhere with the rest of the dead " she said trying for as little emotions to seep through
" I'm so sorry "she mumbled and got a sharp nod in return
" And so am I "
" How are you feeling" Aspen asked her and she sighed starting to speak before she paused
" Can we use your bed " she asked and Aspen nodded
" Sure " they moved slowly seating themselves and once seated Emily gripped her hand.
" I feel wrong, like something left me but I don't know why it is and I'm not sure how to remember" she muttered. Aspen felt her hand grow cold as ice in her grip as she swallowed and played the fool knowing that could not last for very long
" I think Emily knows something " she muttered grabbing at Logan's hand she had been trying to get him to see reason for two days now. It had not been easy, damned hard was an understatement.
He sighed
" And you've been there with her enough time. You know that if she knew then she would be making her displeasure very clear," he hissed and she almost banged her head across a wall
" Well I still think she knows and even if she doesn't we still need to tell her ," she muttered and he huffed
" what does that mean" he asked and she huffed
" Emily deserves to know. You know this "she muttered but he pulled her hand away looking her deep in the eye
" I said no"
She let him go, unable to shout at him and not sure how to change his mind but with each word that flowed out of Emily's mouth each confused emotion she felt more guilty so she approached him one last time. Irrespective of his answer she would do what she must
" Does she look alright to you though" he asked when she'd made her complaint
" Yes Logan, she is fine, she seems not to be bothered " Aspen mumbled and he nodded thinking deeply
" That's very good" he cried out
"I will tell her about the child one day, one day when the loss will not overwhelm" he mumbled his eyes pleading with her to agree and then like magic Emily stumbled into the corridor from her hiding place
" What child" she asked,
" What child" she roared and Logan flinched
And that was how she stood there as Emily asked her once
"Why did you never tell me about the baby" Emily asked softly, finally voicing what had been on her mind for so long and with that question her shoulders slumped.

She stood there frozen, just staring at her, her eyes wide gulping the fear in her throat and the guilt
" Aspen " she whispered and she turned away from her facing the open field and night
She blinked rapidly her hands fluttering over the bar then coming to fall on it gripping it tightly.
" I need you to know I did what I thought was best at the time" she muttered, Aspen reached for her hand grasping it tightly.
" Logan did what he thought was best at the time
She knew Emily wouldn't hate her,but sometimes it was best to just play pretend so if it did happen, your heart would not break and she as she replied
" You were delirious from the fever and we were worried about you. The nurse found the blood " she whispered
" We cleaned you up as best as we could and once that was done we let you rest. All you need–" she mumbled and Aspen nodded
" I didn't know" she mumbled
" I gathered as much "
" I don't know if I'm meant to mourn " she asked
" If you want to then do" she said in reply she nodded and burst into sobs
" Shhhh that's normal" Aspen whispered softly pulling her into an embrace
" Maybe that was my fault not telling you but I did what I thought was best" she finished and Emily smiled
" I know " Emily replied softly once she was done crying she pulled away from her
" But maybe it's my turn to do what I think is best" she finished
Aspen pulled her into a close hug
" I'm sorry" she sighed
" Thank you , for everything" Emily whispered
" Where will you go" she asked and Emily shrugged
" Up north, I've been having dreams and I want to follow where it goes " .
" And what about Logan" she asked , Emily smiled
" You saw him, do you think he'll follow me up north" she asked and Aspen shook her head no
" He's mourning too "
" I know but he abandoned me, he withdrew from me his mate not once but twice physically and then emotionally "
" I'm sorry" she hissed and got a small smile in return
" It's not your fault"
" I'll go with you" she said and Emily stopped
" You sure you want to do that " she muttered and she nodded
" There's not much for me here "
" And even if there were, I still need time "
" Talk to him at least" she said softly and Emily nodded
" I will,"
Aspen watched her walk away and knew that she had made a decision, she would leave when the time came, if only to protect Emily because she knew that while Logan was playing the games he was he would want her cared for at least until he pulled his head out of his arse.
So she started to move to her room, almost falling when a hand caught her by her waist
" Sam" she gasped as he tugged her up
" You should not be out of bed" he muttered and she smiled, he sounded so like his sister up close
" I was just exercising" she mumbled as he led her to bed. He looked different now, felt different from a few weeks ago when she knew him
" Thank you" she mumbled looking away from him and he sighed
" You and my sister are a pain in my butt" she laughed
" That's very rich, coming from a boy I trained to fight " she mumbled and he grinned
" Of course "
" Why are you worried about me" she asked and he sighed looking her in the eye an intense gaze that made her gulp noticing the flecks in his eyes as he smiled
" I heard you and my sister are planning a trip" he mumbled and she nodded
" Yes , you can come if you want"he muttered and she laughed
" Of course, I would follow you to the ends of the earth" he said tossing her a salute at the door before walking away.
She wondered what he meant but she didn't think too long on it, there was a journey on the way. She had to be ready.
