The End of the Bloody Trail
Aspen didn't really hate libraries but she didn't really like them either, not when they smelled of must and age.
If someone was able to pry deeper though, Aspen would have told them that she didn't really like the place because of her mother.
Before her death ,the great Ana Stewart had been the pack archive keeper and she had spent all her time in the library, taking care of her beloved books and making sure that knowledge was not lost.
She had not considered the fact that she was loosing her family for her dream and goal and if she had noticed she had not bothered about it.
She had spent all her life without her mother loosing her to books, so she didn't care much for them but now that she needed them to solve whatever the hell they had gotten themselves into she was starting to see a certain benefit to them. Although this one was not giving it's secrets easily.
She looked through another book that had some information on gardening in the eighties, then there was the one that gave instructions for embalming.
She was about to grab another book when she heard her name called from somewhere far off. She turned around
" Aspen " she heard her name again and this time when she looked around there was no one. When had Emily gone out of the room, geez if she lost her Logan was going to rip her to shreds .
" Found something" she called out hoping to hear something back and was relieved when Emily called back
" Yes, come to my voice "
It didn't take long for Aspen to reach her where she was, it was a smaller room than the main library, it was dusty and filler with shelves high to the ceiling almost but now they some book on the floor all around Emily who was sorting through them like a maniac
" Where was this place " she mumbled and Emily shrugged
" I found books on pack history so maybe you can find scrolls " she mumbled pointing to the shelf, She looked to the pointed out shelf and nodded
This was a two way deal she needed to find something that was close to what the Alpha had asked for and considering the murder was still not completely solved they needed her on their side.
She walked down the corridor pulling and studying books, setting aside what was beneficial and shoving the rest back in. Why was she looking for a scroll in particular because there were books here with history of the Golden Fang in them too, or was there something in the scroll that wasn't in the books.
The archive room was bigger than she thought the farther she looked the more she realized she had seen lots of books and maybe two scrolls, she walked down the edge of the room where she found that there , were a few shelves filled with books and tomes all neatly arranged in a date system.
She walked back to the oldest year she could find and begun her search, dragging out scrolls inhaling dust only to find nothing. Emily had not said a word too so she was likely took engrossed in what she was doing to pay much attention
She wasn't sure how long she spent poring over those texts but she wasn't finding anything here .
She looked up to the shelf where there were a couple of boxes seated at the top and stretched to reach for it.
She jumped on her tiptop and her fingertips caught the edge of the box and dragged it down as she pulled it towards herself trying not to cough at the amount of dust that poured from it. She couldn't understand how her mother had loved this much dust enough to stay inside of it for hours at a time.
She squatted to the floor and opened the box and she almost squealed with excitement to find small scrolls , each of them no larger than a fist, the papers brown and gray with age , one caught her eye, it was a scroll that was a little new than the others which was weird in the first place so she took it the next thing was the carvings on it of that goddess Samoa that Emily really liked to talk about it was another fascinating clue that had her ready to open the scroll
She grabbed it out and opened the scroll and began to read it. It was very easy to understand mostly talking about their history and then it went on to discuss something about a priestess Sera, the daughter of the alpha Devin, who was surprise, the father of Alpha Briar. She sat on the floor and laughed, this was very– wow.
" I found it " she called out she heard footsteps as Emily followed her voice coming to stand next to her where she sat with the boxes around her, it was a mess.
She was just about to say something to her when she heard a thud, she looked to Emily to make sure they had both heard it together and they had
" Whats–" Emily startled then her eyes widened
" Logan "
Logan
They rushed through the halls where they had heard the sound in the room, it couldn't be they were so close, they pushed open the wall door into the sea of darkness, the whole room was pitch black she reached for the blade in her waist pushing Emily behind her a bit swallowing, she could smell blood, there was blood everywhere, she stood in the middle of the room her heart beating like she had run over a hundred miles up a hill on a very hot day and it was not freaking hot.
What the hell was this, she would appreciate being able to telepath right about now, for godsake.
She looked around the place trying not to let the panic overtake her.
She had to place, where the others were, with this much blood she couldn't be certain who's it was.
" What happened here" Emily muttered as she saw the blood, Aspen realized that the room wasn't as dark as she thought, they had run in the dark leaving their torches behind.
" I don't know" she whispered her voice cracking on the words themselves,
" Do you think their " she asked and Aspen shook her head
" We don't know that yet
" It's not just one persons blood and there is no body " she muttered, trying to convince herself of it
" Are you sure " she asked panicking
" Emily get a hold of yourself, we need to find them " she gritted.
They needed to follow the trail of blood when there heard another scream
" Come closed to me and I'll kill him" That was Jessie, the psycho who had tried to frame them which meant they had to rush
She opened the door wider and froze Logan was fine, he seemed a little pale but he wasn't bleeding, so it was likely being weak from the Wolfsbane, Jessie looked frail almost like she was about to fall apart which was not a good sign at all
" What the hell is going on" she asked as Bruce joined her, he was bleeding, his shirt stained red and her heart clenched
" Where were you guys " he gritted
" Studying, we can't leave you two alone can we" Emily hissed sharply and he scoffed
" Are you ok" Aspen asked worriedly, she didn't understand why she was worried
" I'm fine, we just need to get Logan," he hissed.
She looked to where he was, he was pale but alive,
" We need her to get to an open space" Aspen said as she followed, she gestured to the guards behind Jessie to let her keep walking.
" You don't need to do this " she called out, Jessie turned to her, she looked tired like the day was taking a toil on her,and she was shaking so badly
" You turned them all against me, why did you have to come here" she roared
" It was all going as plan, I just needed a little more time and it would have been done " she roared
" Jessie that's enough" She yelled out as she started rounding towards her she could see the beta with them, Bruce said her name was Sia.
Logan shared a glance with her and then nodded quietly, and she sighed
It was going to require finesse, she tucked her knife in its place
" You're right. We made them loose faith in you, who wouldn't. You killed your pack mate, poisoned the alpha of another pack and almost started what could have been a war, "
" Did you think we were just going to let you get away with it " she scoffed, she could see her words having the exact effect she wanted
Logan pretended to collapse falling short of the blade she held and she lunged tackling her to the floor, she shoved her palm off her chest hitting her side, she grunted, straightened and hit Aspen in the knees ,her knees buckled from the force and she almost collapsed.
Aspen got herself up immediately, as Jessie jabbed her ribs and kicked at her spine, she stumbled her breath coming out in harsh pants, she pulled out a knife and Aspen stilled she was corned and she didn't like her options she looked like she planned to lunge for her
" That's enough" Alpha Briar roared her voice filling the room
" Briar" Jessie murmured and Aspen felt that to her soul, for all her evil act she felt betrayed
" I didn't–" she started
" Don't" Alpha Briar said and she stopped and laughed
" Of course, you believe them over me"
" No Jessie, I believe what I saw over you" she mumbled
Emily was holding Logan's arm, she looked tired but relieved, Aspen felt the same
" What I want to know it why" she asked and Jessie laughed
" You don't deserve it now. He was going to make a golden paradise." She hissed
" All hail the Chosen lord" she muttered laughing but she saw the glint of the knife as he lifted it to his throat and rushed forward just as she heard Bruce shout
" He has a knife" he roared. She slid it against her throat, blood sprayed over the floor and Aspen clothes, she growled in annoyance, Jessie collapsed to the floor and the whole room was silent.
Alpha Briar swallowed deeply and looked to her beta
" Clean this up"
" Do you think she was working with--" Emily asked
" Finn, it's highly likely that she was " Alpha Briar replied as she looked away from them
" She's been killing people here" she muttered hoarsely looking gray as if reading our mind and she sighed
Aspen wondered how many she had killed but she didn't ask.
They needed to find Finn and fast
" Where were you guys " Logan asked
" In the library. We found it" she mumbled
