The Scare: Dragnet

Sam still at the loud screeching sound. What was that and where was it coming from, he wondered, he rose to his feet wincing at the pain in his head .
The sound was coming from the north it seemed and it didn't seem too far so he started the trek down, it was as he had predicted, short and quick. He wandered across the meadow not really looking at where he was going to be honest but enough to be able to track his way back from wherever this was.
He heard a voice, maybe it was Aspen, he didn't want to dwell too much on the fact that he wanted to find her before his sister. He ignored that and stuffed it feel into his soul and walked across the bridge
He turned around the corner and froze, he had found his sister, and– he gulped uncertainly, he was not sure what else he had found there.
There was a large blue lizard hanging across a tree like a spider, he almost shouted to her to get away from it but that was likely dangerous and while that wouldn't have been surprising enough in it's own right, it became even worse when right before him the creature started to shrink, blue scales receding back to reveal bright pink skin, it took less than five minutes but it looked like forever, teeth shortening from their terrifying length to become like a man's and talons curving to nails and finally in front of Emily stood a man, with dark blue hair staring at her while she stared back at him in awe he had to assume
" You are very pink" she mumbled quietly and Sam almost rolled his eyes in annoyance, trust Emily to find the thing fascinating
" And you are very pale " he mumbled and walked to her, she stepped back as he moved forward. Sam hurried forward trying to get to them immediately, he couldn't hear them much until he came closer to them and heard the monster whisper
" It is simple, you connect with the magic in you and tell it what to do, it obeys you "
" I'm not sure that works for me " she mumbled and he laughed.
Was he the crazy one for worrying, that his sister was standing next to what had once been a seven foot long serpent or whatever the hell that was.
He stilled when the man showed her his hand, and as if by will scales appeared and then disappeared into his skin, then he did his face, his snout forming lengthening to form sharp vicious teeth.
" Oh fKing god's what the hell is that" he whispered shakily clutching at a tree trunk looking decidedly green as he stared at the man creature Emily turned to find him and she waved
" Hey Sammie come here" she called. He didn't know what else but he really didn't want to be next to whatever that was at all
" I think I'm going to be sick" he hissed and she laughed
" Get up here cry baby " she called and he frowned slightly, he shouldn't be offended but he was.
He strode towards them, and the creature was now fully man minus the flimsy tricks from earlier
" This is my brother Sam " Emily muttered, taking his arm to pull him closer
" Sam this is– shoot I forgot to ask your name " she said turning to him
" Raku" he replied and she nodded
" Sam, Raku, we just met " she mumbled, he nodded his eyes catching sight of blue scales in her arms and he scoffed
" And you're that comfortable holding whatever that is when you just met" he asked her and she shrugged
" Why not, they are shifters as well. The Ryder clan"
" I thought shifters were just small animals " he mumbled and Raku huffed
" No. They are many types of shifters, some extinct, and some prefer the silence and darkness."He replied and Sam sighed
" We are the dragnet" Raku finished
" I guess I can live with that, where's Aspen " he asked and Emily stilled
" I don't know, when I woke from the witches void, I was here alone" she mumbled and Sam sighed
" Do you think she could have been tossed that far" he asked and Raku mumbled
" We are too many, and baby Lei can not fly now" he said gesturing to the baby shifter
" So we walk and look for her as we go. Besides Aspen is very good at looking after herself." Emily said, and Sam tried not to fidget, he knew that but he still worried about her
" We are going to our clan lands, they stretch as far as five to ten acres" he said
" How long will it take to get there" Sam asked
" We will take the longer route so we can look for your friend" he replied cryptically.
This was a good plan and Emily seemed to agree but he couldn't help but still worry. The day was running fast and Aspen was out in the cold, able or not night fall in a strange place was not fun.*
