The Road to Gold is paved with Murder
Logan tried not to fidget, it was unbecoming of a man who had been in the action of protection for over ten years and had seen things far worse than what he had witnessed tonight, He was used to gore, blood, bones, and the other body parts that sprayed everywhere. We were werewolves it was in our nature to be violent, He could deal with that. It was the passive-aggressive silent battle that he didn't appreciate but most of all it was the ambush that he couldn't stand most of all.
"Are you injured alpha boy," Bruce asked and he sighed tossing a towel onto the table, he grabbed one when the maid showed them into a room.
" Not anything serious" He replied rubbing at his brow.
He was exhausted, his back hurt from having been tossed into the sea and if he crashed on any surface at this point he was certain he would fall asleep and not wake for hours but he had to think of the future they might have been in the Golden Fang pack but he couldn't trust the alpha. Yes, she was known to be lenient and kind but he couldn't rely on her.
" By the gods man just let it go, we'll take it one at a time," Bruce said and, he looked up at him
" We can't afford to let our guard down for even a moment that was the most failing part of this, the fact that he didn't understand what the hell was going on with the sudden spike in ghoul presence and why that spike was even more
" Do you want to talk about the ambush?" Bruce asked and he looked up from the paper he was reviewing.
Logan turned to face his best friend in the whole world he looked tired, his lips split, with a big black bruise on his eyes. He looked at how Logan felt right now, in fact even his whole body seemed ready to remind him of just how much he felt that way.
" Go on" Logan muttered and he nodded
" It's regarding the woman, who do you think she is? A mage, she didn't seem to be a wolf or a human " Logan stiffened slightly, he had not noticed that at all
" I see," He drawled relaxing into a seat and hiding his emotions, He didn't need Bruce reading his facial features about that fight and how much it had affected him.
He wasn't that lucky after all
" You know it's not your fault at all, we were ambushed " He nodded thoughtfully, that was new and not very helpful at all
" Anything else " Bruce asked and he shook his head
" You can't ignore this forever. I'm sure you know that " he asked and Logan hissed
" I didn't calculate, the time I had was limited and I didn't calculate. We could have lost Emily or Aspen and it would have been my fault." He hissed and
" So if I don't want to talk about it, please don't make us talk about it " he muttered and Bruce nodded
" Fine, _ "
" Any questions" he asked again
" No, but the woman was young, she ran very fast, too fast to be just a human and not a submissive, she was also helped by someone " Logan nodded
" We can't know until we meet her again but we'll figure it out "
He heard footsteps outside the door and he placed his finger on Bruce lips to keep him quiet and slipped to the door he wrapped his fingers around the knob and pulled it open. The maid was standing there with a slightly put-out look on her face like she was trying to figure out what was going wrong.
" What do you want," he asked and she sighed
" The alpha has invited you to a dinner banquet," she said and he nodded
" Thank you, you can leave" He ordered when the girl was done.
He watched her leave the corridor before going to lock the door and walking back in
" We've been invited for dinner" he muttered, Bruce rose from the table
" Then I need to get showered" he muttered and Logan nodded.
" Fine, I'll go in after you."
Logan watched him disappear and collapsed into a chair with a small thud.
He understood the alpha's frustration and her fear of being treated like second-class citizens for things that were not wholly their fault, it didn't surprise him. He would have done the same if he were her.
What his problem was is the fact that he had a feeling in his gut that something was wrong. It was a familiar feeling, he had felt it when his mother had died a few years ago and she had passed from peaceful means. He had felt it too when his father had died, he had known that it was a ploy but had been unable to fix anything or solve anything.
He could not do anything for his men but he had to find out who had been behind this attack and his purpose for the attack.
He tugged on his coat and walked into the hall.
Bruce needed to find Logan, he needed to get into the preparation for the ceremony, and He knew that couldn't be easy.
He stood from the chair convinced that he was taking too long. He found him in the corridor, looking out the window, his shoulders were stiff and bowed in on himself. He joined him uncertain of what to say to him
" Are you ok," Bruce whispered coming to stand behind him, He stilled and sighed
" I don't know what the hell you are," he said then looked at him
" I took too long huh" he asked, and Logan nodded
" Yes, you did but I'm glad you did"
" I'm not sure you are, I like tormenting you, not the other way around," he said softly and they both laughed
" Of course, it's the other way around. " He hissed and stood straight
" I'm going to take a shower get dressed " Logan ordered and strode away to the bathroom, he was happy that his friend could vent. it was not something that happened so often and definitely to his sight. So he was happy for Bruce's closure.
He turned the water on letting it rush down his body and stood there long after he was done showering. Then he stood from the ground and walked to the room, Bruce was somewhere considering how large the place was. He found clothes on a chair and picked them on to wear tugging on his coat over it.
He walked into the corridor where Bruce, Aspen, and Emily were talking, they went silent when they saw him
" Ah you are out " Bruce muttered waving at him and he smiled slightly
" Yeah, are you guys ok," he asked looking to Aspen who nodded, and Emily who turned away from him while nodding.
Bruce grabbed Aspen's hand and tugged her towards the end of the corridor.
" Are you ok?" Logan asked again and she shook her head
" I'm fine "
" You know there's only so much ignoring me you can do " he muttered and she sighed
" I think so too but the problem is I can't think of any other way to deal with this," Emily said and he sighed
" We agreed to forget it ever happened," he said and she sighed
" Is that so easy? I'm not sure it is " he cornered her to the wall and cupped her face in his palm, she sighed her breath hitching
" Logan we shouldn't do this," she said softly and he smiled kissing her cheeks and letting his breath fall over her face as he watched her, both intrigued and mesmerized by her
" Do what?" he asked.
