The Meeting
Several small knocks originated from the door of Emily’s room, but she slept on, oblivious to them.
“Emily wake the fuck up” she heard her brother yell, jolting her up. the other sounds coming from the door told her that Sam had been scolded by their mother already. When she finally opened the door, he was caressing his head with a frown on his face. she smiled at the sight, she never thought she was taking her family for granted till they were in danger, now all the things she worried about before seemed small compared to the sufferings they endured the past few days. She shut the door and hugged her mother. Sam joined in.
“it’s so strange to be in a wolf city. I can’t believe that this place existed right under our noses.”
“There’s so much we don’t know about this world. “ Her mother responded.
“But you seem to know a lot about it.” Sam asked his mother. Emily wanted to ask too, but so much had happened. She did not think it was appropriate to bug her mum with questions yet. Her mother sighed.
“Your father and I did not think it was important. I guess we were both wrong. I have a feeling his death has something to do with those ghouls.” She shivered as she thought about the monsters.
“Was dad a werewolf?” Emily asked quietly.
Sam pulled out a journal that Emily recognized to be their father’s journal. When logan came to rescue her she hadn’t noticed that the journal had been missing from the shelf, she rushed to her brother and watched as her mother took the book from his hand.
“this was your father’s he started writing in this journal after you were born Emily. And yes, I knew of your father’s origins. But it didn’t matter at the time, your father’s wolf genes were…submissive. Like they skipped a generation, he was practically human. That’s why we didn’t say anything. It wasn’t important.”
“It is now, since we’re getting hunted by monsters that want our werewolf blood.” Sam said gruffly. Emily could feel his mounting anger.
“That’s all in the past now, what we need to do is figure out whats going on, who they say we are, and what is in that journal. “
“What’s the way forward sis.”
Emily took a deep breath in. “I think mom should read the journal,” her mother smiled briefly. “You should look around, try to get some mind map of this place, and I’ll talk to Logan.” She fought down her rising blush at the thought of him.
“Why can’t I talk to him?”
“Because you're very sensitive now, with everything that has happened, you won’t be able to apply patience. Plus I know Logan more than you do.”
“Your sister is right.” Mrs Dawson chimed in.
With that plan in mind the threesome separated, and Emily was left to focus on looking presentable for her talk with Logan.
* * *
“It just feels very suspicious that this random creature- that we’re yet to identify suddenly appears in the town near us.” Frasier, one of the dominant wolves in the council reasoned.
“We haven’t seen ghouls in over ten years and this guy has an army.” Another man added. “This is more than those chummy werewolf hunters, he’s one of the few that actually knows what they’re doing and that’s dangerous!”
Logan sighed, he agreed with all the points they had made so far. Across from him, Aspen stood cradling her broken arm. He could not think of what the prisoners had been subjected to in their time in the well. Especially since her wounds had not healed completely even with the time that had passed. His body still hurt where he had been shot. A non human enemy with wolf weakening weapon, hundreds of ghouls and the ability to vanish when he wanted. A first in over centuries, it was normal to be anxious. He raised his hand for silence.
“I understand our concerns but the most important thing now is our safety, the safety of the other people that were entrusted in our care. ”
“I have twice as many guards running the patrols.” Frasier volunteered, earning a nod from Logan.
“when the others are well recovered and ready to talk we can find out any information that they have on this… “ he couldn’t come up with a name for their new enemy.
“If we get at least where these people come from we could see if there’s a pattern to his kidnappings.” Lexi offered. She was one of the strongest minds he could think of, if any one could figure this shit out, it would be her.
“I also think it would be smart to go through the archives. There might be something in the old books that might help us figure out what we're dealing with.” Bruce added sparing a glance in Aspen’s direction. Logan knew his beta longed to comfort her, but held himself out of decorum.
“Frasier, put some men on clean up detail. We trashed the woods, we don’t want any humans taking a stroll and finding blood everywhere.”
“we didn’t even consider the danger to humans with those ghouls roaming about.” Lexi groaned.
The ghouls were psychopathic, and their leader appeared to be the same too, Logan doubted he would stop them from raping or killing the humans in their normal brutal ways.
“we can’t have human killings in this town, attention on the humans mean attention on wolf city and we can’t afford to have that.”
“What I would like to know is why he didn’t kill us.” Aspen said quietly. But the question left everyone tongue tied.
So many questions that needed answering and so little answers.
Before Logan could come up with something else to say he knew Emily was near by, so did the other in the room. She marched oblivious into the room till she saw them.
