Chapter 37: SHE IS YOURS

Alpha Dylan

My mother annoyed me.

I was a score and a decade old and I had yet to find my mate. She just was not anywhere.

The search for her took me out of my pack one a many times. I traveled far and wide with the hope that one day I would somehow encounter her.

But there was no result.

Every fucking journey, every tiring travel was yet futile.

I had found no one.

I began to wonder if I had a mate, or if my mate was dead because that would be the only reason I had never ever met her in all of my journey.

She was thin air, I guess.

This matter made me at my mother's mercy, made her to constantly be on my neck. She wanted me to have a companion as the Alpha of the pack.

Since I have been trying ever since I was a decade and five years less old than now and there has been no result, she had begun to poke her nose in my affairs.

She had begun to find me a suitable companion, mate or not.

It turns out she was fast.

She had a good match for me in just a few weeks of snooping around.

It was Stephanie.

Her mate, Austin had died when she was nineteen, about three years after they had met each other.

He had passed away from a tumor of the brain. And since she had no one and I had no one too for now, we could have each other for the while.

That I was told.

My mother was a thorn in my throat, one that never gave up on attempting to choke me to my death.

She had been trying for ages to get me married to her.

I had been evading her in hopes of finding my own partner no matter how late and we always had arguments over that.

That was what had brought me out onto the road again, on a journey.

An argument.

My mother and I had had a heated argument over the fact that an Alpha had to have a Luna. And I have been Pack Alpha for Nine years since my father's death.

According to her, the people whispered behind my back, they talked in my absence of the matter. And she was bothered about that greatly.

It turns out I was not.

They all whispered and talked, but the emphasis was behind my back and in my absence. They would never say any of those things to my front. They did not dare to do that lest they face my wrath.

My mother was not understanding of me on that, she was not having any of that. She had promised to have a proxy marriage for me without my consent if I had no answer for her in three weeks time.

I do not know why she was so hellbent.

But, I did not want to wait to find out for I had walked out on her and angrily stormed out. I had shifted and sprinted for so long in the thick forest.

When I was calmer, I had begun to return to the palace, but I feared my mother would pester me.

Therefore, the urge for another impromptu journey had over taken me. It would do no harm if I explored the world again. Mayhap this time I would find my other half, my partner, my soul mate.

My wolf mate.

That was how I came to the Hyran pack with my Beta, Drake. I had come here to see my aunt, Karen. She was my father's sister.

I had been caught up with a bit of business visiting the Alpha of the Hyran pack so I had sent Drake afore me.

By evening when I had returned to Drake's side, arriving at my aunt's home, I had called him. He had come out moments later to see me. He seemed to have been eating and when I asked him he told me I had called him out in the middle of dinner.

My wolf had stirred violently in me for a second or two and I thought that he was angry at my actions towards Drake.

I had apologized and asked him to go back but he had refused. So, he had followed me to go get presents for the household.

When we returned, my wolf who had calmed down considerably after that came alive again as a graceful scent met my smelling faculty.

It was the soft fragrance of hibiscus and lavender and a waft of mint.

The scent went into my head from my nostrils clouding my mind like a haze. I held myself from staggering as the fragrance continued to occupy every inch of me.

I wondered what on earth I had inhaled or was inhaling?

I looked at Drake through my blurry eyes. He was staring at me unsure, but, he was completely fine.

"Drake," I said.

"Alpha, are you alright? You do not seem to be," he pointed out, one of his hands coming to hold my shoulders.

That fragrance kept coming, stronger, harder, abstract yet opaque. I shook my head softly as if to clear it away, but nothing was working.

"Alpha," I heard Drake ask me again but I could say nothing. Everything else was slow to me except that redolence that was fast corrupting the whole of me like an acidic fast spreading poison, a hazard.

What was going on with me?

My wolf roared inside of me as I heard soft approaching footsteps. I looked at Drake as he looked behind me. I tried to turn my entire body towards the sound, but that glorious smell hit once again, causing me to be slightly unsteady on my feet.

That footstep came closer, slowly like a doodling toddler, and with it came more of that fragrance that was beginning to set my entire body on fire.

I finally willed my body to bend to my will, to obey me but turning around, though not as smoothly as I wanted.

I saw her then.

"Mate," my wolf, Nathan said to me softly in all of the chaos. And I understood then what was happening to me.

The moment my eyes fell on her, every subduing effect of her fragrance vanished. I could still smell that glorious redolence, but i was no longer unable to move. I could see her through passion lit eyes.

My wolf urged me to shift, to have her, to mate and to hold.

The figure approaching me stumbled forward and I began to go to her, as fast as my long legs would allow me. She came to a stop the moment I began coming to her, staring straight at me.

About two feet away from her, I halted to look at her properly. But, there was not enough light and my wolf vision was not helping because of the mating haze that was over my sight.

We stared at each other.

My breathing came slowly, heat running through me, desire soaring through me veins and want threatening to suffocate me.
She is your mate.
She is yours.
