Chapter 61: WHAT WILL BECOME OF STEPHANIE?
Alpha Dylan
Drake held the door open for me. I stepped out and then went to the other side. I opened the door of the car and lifted Ellen into my hands.
She did not awaken, rather she melted into my embrace comfortably. I smiled as her took her inside, to our new home.
Drake followed behind me.
Everyone greeted me and acknowledged me with a bow as I made my way inside.
"Alpha Dylan!" An excited voice called my attention and caused me to turn towards that direction.
It was Martha, our house keeper.
Despite the fact that we were not related by blood in any way, we were family. I have known her since I was in diapers.
"Martha," I said to her as she quickly came up to me. "How have you been?"
"Fancy you asking that now. You did not bother to stop and think of how i would be if you were to disappear again," she scolded me loudly. "You did not care about-" she continued but suddenly stopped as if realizing something.
"What?" I asked her when she kept only staring at me.
"What is that bundle?" She asked me while gesturing with her pouted lips to Ellen who was still peacefully sleeping in my hands. "And why do you have a woman in your arms?"
"It is a long story Martha," i said. She began to dig inside of her apron pocket for something. I watched her as she searched, wondering what she was looking for inside that bulky apron front pocket.
"Ah ha!" She exclaimed as her hands came up with a scissors. Then she presented it to me in a playful fashion. "Here is a scissors, quickly cut it short, the story I mean." Now that had me laughing. I caught Drake smile in amusement from the corner of my eyes. We were both used to Martha's sassiness any ways.
"Aish Martha," I said as I shook my head in amused unbelief. "That was uncalled for you know," I pointed out. Now it was her turn to laugh heartily.
"Sorry Alpha Dylan, I must tease you and you know. I thought something had happened to you when you ran off and would not take your mother's call. She was worried sick! And so was I! If your aunt Karen had not called in to tell us that you were alive and kicking at her home, we both could have died from over thinking!" She sounded angry as she spoke to me, but I knew that she was not.
"I am really sorry Martha. I did not do it on purpose. It was an unplanned decision. But my trip was worth it," I said to her as I took a glance at the still peacefully sleeping woman in my arms.
"It had better had been because I have my eyes on you now! You won't just get away again and kill me from worry."
"Oh Martha, you worry about me all the die, but you will not die. You know it," I teased her too. "Martha, this is my mate Ellen. Please do pardon her royal sleepiness on my account. Our journey here has been long from the Hyran pack," I explained to her. Martha stared at me shocked at the words that had just come out of my mouth. Her eyes were wide with surprise.
"Your mate?" She asked me as if she did not hear me the first time. "She is your mate?" I nodded. "Wow! You finally found your mate! I am so happy!"
"You have a mate?" A firm familiar voice said behind all of us. I would know that voice any where.
It was my mother.
I turned to behold her. She was just coming in with a young woman behind her. It was Stephanie, the lady she had always wanted to replace my unfound mate.
My heart filled again with those terrible emotions that threatened to belittle me.
"Hello mother," I greeted her.
"Mother? The son that I have does not have a mate. Who are you child?" She questioned me with her emerald eyes. Her eyes carried gold specks in them that was pretty.
"Greetings mother," I simply waved her angry joke that was not one to her away with my words. "And yes, I found my mate in the Hyran pack. She is a friend of my cousin sister."
"Is she truly your mate Dylan?" She asked me as her eyes took in the whole of me and the sleeping lady in my arms.
"Then why on earth is she asleep?"
"Mother-" I began.
"Silence! Did you go and find someone to replace Stephanie because you did not want to marry her? How on earth did you convince that child to cooperate with you? Did you threaten her?!"
"Moth-"
"No he did not," Ellen's voice interrupted me. I looked down at her.
"You are awake," I said. She nodded.
"Why did you not wake me wgen we arrived? You should have. Please put me down," she told me.
I put her down gently.
She turned to my mother. "Greetings ma," she greeted her with a low bow.
"Who are you?!" She snapped at Ellen who recoiled gently after having being startled. I came forward and held her by the waist.
"She is my mate."
"I am his mate," we said simultaneously. We looked at each other and smiled.
"Did that child put you up to this? Did he threaten you? Do not be scared, tell me everything so I can help you." I simply shook my head. Did my mother really think that i could do such a thing?
"He did not ma. I am truly his mate."
"Well well, I see," she drawled as she stepped closer to look at Ellen in the eye properly, scaring her. "Where are you from?" She demanded.
"I am from the Clux pack ma," she said. And I suddenly realized that I did not know where she was from.
"Where did you two meet?" She asked again. I made to speak. "I do not speak to you Dylan. I am asking the child. Now tell me," she urged Ellen.
"We met at his aunt's home. Lydia, his cousin sister is my friend. She brought me to her home."
"I see," she drawled again. "If I find out that you lie, I will have your skin for that," she threatened her.
"Mother you will have nobody's skin. She is my mate."
"You come with me!" She snapped at me as she headed out of the living room . I sighed softly.
"I will be back, stay put," I told Ellen before I followed behind her. I walked behind her to the study, my study.
"Shut the door behind you," she snapped at me the moment I entered. I was used to her temper. I did as she asked.
"Mother," I began to explain. "Ellen is my mate and we-"
"What will become of Stephanie?" She asked me. I stared at her. Was that really what all these was about?
"But mother, I have found my mate, remember?" I reminded her.
"But Dylan, Stephanie, I have been making her for you, molding her into that perfect Luna that you need. Yes, she is not your mate, but at this point she is far better than any woman you can find because I groomed her into what she currently is."
"Mother, I love Ellen."
"You just met her Dylan. You most certainly do not love her. You have not had the time to do so. All these things you feel is just the mate pull. This is the best time to reject her and marry Stephanie."
I stared at my mother in plain astonishment.
"Reject her?" I could not believe my ears.
"Yes Dylan. Stephanie is the right person for you. I made her for you."
"Can you hear yourself mother? Are you listening to yourself?"
"I know what I am saying to you Dylan. She is a wonderful person."
"And so is my mate."
"I do not kniw her!"
"You can start now! But your opinion on this does not matter. This is my life and my mate. And I shall marry her, wether you approve or not."
"Listen to me Dylan-" She began but I cut her off.
"No mother. I am the Alpha. It is you who should listen to me."
She said nothing.
