Chapter 79: A PANG OF LONGING
Alpha Sebastian POV
He was tall and handsome, really handsome with features that could beat mine anytime.
Jealousy rippled through me instantly at his arrival and a certain defiance came upon me as I refused to stand to greet him. He stared at me with a cold and unwelcoming demeanor at my actions which I agree was uncalled for. But yet I did it anyways.
"Welcome to the Kane pack," Alpha Dylan said with a clear voice that dripped with what was unmistakenly sarcasm.
"Alpha Dylan," I acknowledged him with a smirk, welcoming the hostility.
"What brings you to this place, because it seems to me that you do not come in peace?" He asked as he took a seat on his throne.
I chuckled. "Of course we do." His aura was palpable, my fault but I maintained my initial composure, sitting calm and collected.
"Please introduce yourselves and state your mission here," Alpha Dylan demanded squarely.
"Alpha Sebastian, Beta Zedd, and Gamma Miller, of the Harné pack," I introduced everyone, gesturing to Zedd and Miller with my hands. "And we are here for Ellen Evans, sister of Zedd Evans, my Beta," I finished.
Alpha Dylan's brows rose at the statement in some form of undeniable surprise. "Which Ellen do you seek?" He asked me like he did not know which was living in his palace.
"The one that you are about to wed, Alpha Dylan. She has unfinished business with me and my pack," I explained further. He stiffened at my words and his already dark expression grew darker still.
"What do you want from her?" he demanded with a low growl.
He was the protective type. I could see it in the way his eyes lit with defense and his shoulders squared high with his aggression.
He was most probably in love with her. He would do anything for her.
What was Ellen doing to all the men in her life?
I was about to speak when Zedd interrupted, "When Ellen comes, you shall hear what brought us here."
Alpha Dylan's eyes flashed with annoyance at his words. "Why?"
"We have no business with you, Alpha Dylan, or the Kane pack. We only have business with Ellen!" I snapped at him with a glare, enjoying his curiosity.
The air thickened with tension as he fought for control over his anger and his wolf it seemed
"Silence!" Alpha Dylan roared, his voice echoing through the throne room.
He was also domineering.
But, I was not intimidated by his loud voice or stern face. I gritted my own teeth as I suppressed my own anger.
I was angry for a number of reasons but his presence in Ellen's life was the prior reason.
"No one screams in my throne room," he warned me with glaring eyes. He looked like he would do something about it if I dared to do so. And I would not take whatever he did sitting still either. His concrete gaze lingered on me, his damn possessiveness evident. "Ellen is my mate. If you have business with her, I will be involved. But save your explanations to yourselves for I do not need it anymore."
I suppressed my anger in my heart, biting back a cutting remark as my heart twisted in pain and turbulence at the reality dawned on me that the woman I had mistakenly marked was now bonded to another man.
He was claiming her as his mate. I wondered his reaction when he would know that Ellen was pregnant with my child.
Or had the darn woman taken the child out just to be with him?
My Beta, Zedd stepped in then to intervene. "Please Alpha Dylan,We certainly mean no disrespect, Alpha Dylan. Our business with Ellen is private. If she wants to tell you then she can relate it to you."
He studied us for a moment before he stood to his feet. "I will be back," he said and walked out of the throne room, leaving us with his Beta, Drake.
We sat quiet, all three of us in his absence, our minds pondering on different things.
Soon he returned, "she will soon be here," he said.
"Thank you," Zedd murmured gratefully.
The sound of a car pulling up a while later spelt her arrival. I was sure from the eager look on his face.
My eyes were fixed on the entrance, awaiting her with uncertainty. And she burst into the throne room mere seconds later with excitement written all over her face. But the moment she saw me, she froze like an ice statue.
Time stopped as we stared at each other.
A relief that I had been expecting washed over me at seeing her alive and well with my own eyes. I wanted to reach out to her, to hold her in my arms to confirm that, but I restrained myself. It was not because of Alpha Dylan, but because of my companions.
I watched as the emotions on her face shifted from shook to terror. Her hands reached to her chest to hold it protectively.
Was she still with child?
And then suddenly she was falling to the ground.
"Ellen!" Zedd exclaimed as he rushed towards her. But Alpha Dylan was quick as he caught her collapsing form in his arms while his eyes blazed with concern.
My heart sank as her eyes fell closed.
I felt a pang of longing as her mate cradled her in his arms like a baby. I wished it were me. I could see he did not know what to do next.
"Is she fine?" I asked going on one knee in front of them, trying my possible best to keep my hands off of her and my pulsing feelings in check.
"Does she look like she is fine?" He snapped at me. He had a jealous look on his face and I could not help but think that he was seeing through me.
Sebastian asked, trying to keep his emotions in check.
A woman stepped in then while we had a state down to confirm her heart was beating. And when she was done she said to him, "We need to get her to the hospital." I wondered if she was his mother because he listened to her, springing into action at her words, gathering his mate into his hands, and heading outside after his Beta.
They slipped into an automobile outside but when I tried to get in with them, the woman from earlier beat me to it, slipping in from underneath my arms into the seat and shutting the doors quickly.
I looked towards the back seat where Ellen was lying in her mate's arms and wondered whether it was appropriate or not for me to get into the back with them.
He did not let me make that decision, shifting over all the space to indicate that I wasn't wanted there.
And so I watched helplessly as the car left, my heart heavy with worry.
When I turned to Zedd he had that same feeling in my heart on his face. I patted his shoulders in encouragement.
"Do not worry, we will get all the answers we need when they return. He will take care of Ellen and ensure that she is safe." He nodded in agreement.
"Maybe he won't when he hears that his soon-to-be wife is pregnant with your child," Miller said then to me. "It looked like he did not know."
I said nothing at his words and so did Zedd.
