Chapter 62: PERFECT OBLIVION
Elena Evans
It was the day before my wedding.
I had just had my nails done and was admiring them, holding them around the warm coffee mug in the coffee shop.
The acrylic nails were a color mixture of a light shade of pink, bright pink and some streaks of gold and black on each finger.
"You love them, more than me?" My mate's voice broke into my admiration. I looked up at him.
He was sitting across me with a similar mug of coffee in his hands.
We were just back from our cloth fitting on the wedding store. And the gown he had picked out for me went quite well with my acrylic nails.
We had had a fun time trying out different wedding dresses at the wedding store.
Somewhere along the line, he had even offers to buy me more than one wedding dress just because I said that I could not make a choice from the lot.
I had only been joking, but he had not been joking when he said so.
"They are lifeless objects Sebastian, how can you be jealous of them?" I teased him. He chuckled delightfully.
"Those inanimate pink things are taking your attention away from me Elena. You keep falling into a reverie whenever you stare at them and I have to call you out of it. It should not be so," he grumbled.
"Drink your coffee and stop saying that," I told him before I took a small sip of the warm coffee.
The liquid was just as sweet as the waitress had promised me that it will be. She had fawned over my mate and I when we had arrived, meaning that she knew our identity.
And when she had told us her congratulations on our upcoming wedding, I had instantly confirmed it. But my mate and I had thanked her with smiles of happiness.
"You know," I said to Sebastian, "we both are not supposed to see each other before the wedding," I pointed out to him.
"Technically, tomorrow is the wedding. And it is all superstition I assure you," he said before he raised his mug to his mouth and drank a mouthful of coffee.
I wondered how he was managing the heat of the liquid.
"It will burn your tongue, be gentle with it. I will not ask you for yours," I said to him. "Mine is enough for me. Besides, your coffee is not sweet."
"I like my coffee black," he said after a light chuckle.
"And I do not. But,already noted. I will always make you plain black coffee in the future," I told him.
"And I will always make you happy," he said to me while holding my gaze. My heart rate quickened significantly.
"Sebastian," I began. But I could say nothing more after that, only staring at my nails again which I had placed on the table. He reached across the table to take my palms in his.
"It feels good to sit here and talk about our future with you Elena. I love you and I am happy that you will be in my forever."
I smiled.
"I love you too Sebastian." We stared at each other with tender eyes. Then, his phone rang then. He only spared it a glance and looked back at me. "Take your call," I urged him.
"I do not want to do that. I want to enjoy my day with you, free of any sort of disturbance, this phone calls inclusive."
I laughed.
"Take it, it could be work. If responsibility calls, go to it. I will not go any where. I will always wait for you. So, will you take the call now?" He nodded before he let go of my hands and took the still vibrating phone.
"Hello," he said. I heard muffled voices in the background. "And how is it going now, okay?" He asked. Another voice replied to him. It sounded like Miller but I was not sure. "Just hold on for me, I will be on my way," he promised. Well, someone raised another issue and he had to listen again. But he kept the call after a while
"What is it?" I asked as I drank the last of my coffee.
"They need my help sorting some pack matters. I need to grace them with my presence though. Are you okay with that?" he asked me.
"Of course I am baby. Now go on and help them out our Mr Alpha." He laughed at my teasing.
"I will not do that before I drop you home," he said. "Finish your coffee and let us go. They can wait a while."
"I am done," I told him as I tipped the empty mug so he could see for himself.
"Come on then, let me take you home," he told me. I nodded. He waved to the waitress who quickly came. Then, he paid for the coffee and tipped her generously. She was unceasing with the thanks.
Then, we headed out of the coffee shop. We got into his car and he drove me home.
The drive home was kind of quiet because Sebastian always liked to focus on one thing. So i tried not to talk to him while he was handling the wheels.
Soon, we arrived at my home.
These days, I always dreaded coming home because it was always empty. I was beginning to kind of miss my twin sister.
The introverted fool was always home whenever I was back from somewhere. She would even make me a meal sometimes.
But did I want her back? Hell no!
He parked carefully in front of the flat and then turned off the ignition.
He turned to me.
"We are here."
"I see that," I said looking at my nails in my laps again.
"Take care baby. I will see you soon. I love you," he said in a breath. Then, he leaned in and kissed me softly on the lips.
I returned the kiss.
"Bye," I said to him when we disengaged. I opened the car door and began to go down.
"Elena?" He called out to me. I turned to answer him.
"Yes?"
"You'll be mine tomorrow," he promised me with a huge grin. I smiled back.
"I will be." I closed the car door and took a step back. He started the car ignition. He waved at me and then he drove away.
I watched the car till it disappeared down the road. Then I walked into the house.
The house was quiet, like always.
I slumped into one of the couch, tired. I and Sebastian had done a lot today. It was the wedding tomorrow so we had made sure to tie up every loose end.
My stomach made noises. I was hungry. I had eaten nothing.
Sebastian had offered to buy me dine snacks along with the coffee but I had refused because I was too nervous around him about the wedding to do so. I did not want to make a mess of anything.
I stood and headed for the kitchen to make myself some toasts.
The door bell rang.
I changed directions and went to get the door. It was Miller.
I let him in.
"What are you doing here? Coming through the front door too. Anyone could have seen you walk in," I said as I closed the door and followed behind him. "This had better be good, the reason for your visit."
"Relax, it is okay. Your impending husband asked me to bring you this," he said lifting a bag to my face. He handed me the bag. I took it from him and peered inside. "You do not need to look inside. It is obviously food Elena," he told me.
It really was.
"He takes care of you doesn't he?" He said to me. I looked yo and held his gaze. He was hurt.
"Yes he does."
"What happened to you?" I asked him taking a step closer.
"Are you really going to marry him?" He asked me.
"Is that even a question?" I asked but he went on talking like i did not speak.
"I saw the both of you. I followed you. I saw you at the wedding store. You looked pretty in the wedding dresses. You looked the prettiest in the one with roses on the waistline."
He had indeed seen me. That gown, it was the one that I had eventually taken.
"Are you foolish? You should not have looked at that," i snapped at him. He was hurting because of it.
"I love you Elena," he said. "But this, it is hurting me. I am not sure that I can do this anymore."
"I am sorry," I said to him as I stepped closer and embraced him. "I want you," I told him, wanting to seduce him out of his pain. But when I made to kiss him, he declined, turning away.
"Everything is not all about sex Elena," he said to me.
I would have been a fool to believe him for twenty minutes later, I was being bent over the couch and getting fucked by him into that prefect oblivion, without a care in the world.
