Chapter 74: SHE KNEW THEM
Alpha Dylan POV
I had heard of the Harné pack. It was quite a strong pack, about three packs and a sea journey away from the location of the Kane pack.
"What do you want from her?" I asked them. They looked at each other and the Beta who they claimed to be Ellen's brother spoke.
"When Ellen comes, you shall hear what brought us here."
"Why?" I asked.
"We have no business with you Alpha Dylan or the Kane pack. We only have business with Ellen," the one who claimed to be Alpha Sebastian claimed in a furious voice.
"Silence!" I roared loudly in my wolf voice. Everywhere went silent. "No one screams in my throne room," I warmed him. "And Ellen is my mate," I bellowed. "If you have business with her I will definitely be involved. But save your explanations to yourselves. I do not need it anymore."
"Please Alpha Dylan," Zedd said to me in a calm voice. "We do not mean to upset you. But this matter is private with Ellen, that is the reason. If she wants to, then she can relate it to you," he said to me.
I studied him for a moment. The man did not seem to me like he was lying and my wolf could not smell any fishy emotions on him.
Should I believe him?
"I will be back," I said to them as I stood and went back to the bedroom. I called Ellen. She picked up. "Baby, come home. Everything should wait. I need you here at this instant."
"Do not worry. I am on my way."
I kept the call and paced the bedroom in thought.
Why on earth were they here for her?
What unfinished business did she have with them?
Or were they truly imposters?
I could not tell.
I turned towards the bedroom door and opened it. I walked out of it, down the corridor to the throne room. The men were still waiting.
"She will be here soon," I told them. Zedd nodded at me with a thanks. We all sat to wait for her.
I heard when she arrived, the car pulled up into the palace. I heard the pitter patter of her footsteps as she ran into the throne room. But the moment her eyes fell on the three men sitting there, she froze. A frightening look overtook her face.
She knew them.
She held her chest with her hand. I thought it was from shock until she began gasping for air. She could not breathe. And suddenly, she was falling to the floor.
"Ellen!" Zedd screamed her name, running towards her. But I outran him and caught her before she hit the cold stone floor.
"Ellen," I called her name softly as her eyelids fluttered tiredly. She said nothing, staring at me with tired teary eyes.
And then she lost consciousness, in my arms.
I panicked the moment she went limp in my arms, a heart wrenching fear and a gut slicing alarm washing over me in a nanosecond. I shook her slightly, calling her name, urging her to open her eyes.
"Is she fine?" The Alpha Sebastian said, kneeling afore the both of us, his eyes studying my mate, worried.
He had feelings for Ellen. I could tell from the emotions in his eyes and the look on his face.
"Does she look like she is?" I snapped at him out of jealousy rather than fear or anger.
"Ellen," Martha said, bending over her and checking her heartbeat by putting her head to her chest. She sighed heavily as she straightened to look at me.
"She is alive. She has just fainted," she said as she checked her pulse. "Let's take her to the hospital quickly," she said to me.
I remembered staring at her foolishly, lost on what to actually do.
"The hospital Dylan!" She snapped at me just the way she usually did when I was a lot younger.
"Yes, yes, the hospital," I said as I stood to my feet supporting her unconscious body. I raised her into my arms and gestured for the door. Drake led the way, the car keys already in his hands.
He was definitely quick.
There were times when I did not regret having him as a Beta. This was one of those times. He held the car door open for me and I placed Ellen who still had not stirred gently in the back seat and got in after her.
Drake shut the door after me and turned around, headed for the driver's seat. Alpha Sebastian opened the passenger's door of the front seat, probably to get into the car. I was about to ask him to stay when Martha bundled herself into the car, slipping past him swiftly.
He stared stunned at her.
"Sorry," Martha said as she gestured for him to go backwards so she could shut the door. He did as he was told, begrudgingly, his eyes darting to the back seat in search of space.
I adjusted myself and Ellen to cover it all as Drake shut the driver's door and started the car. He drove away to the hospital leaving the Alpha standing, watching us leave helplessly.
When soon arrived at the pack hospital, Martha requested for Doctor Thompson. He was the best. He was quickly brought to attend to Ellen. He checked her vitals and assured us that she must have fainted from all the stress of the wedding and everything.
"We will put her on an IV drip for energy and sedate her so she will rest easy. Then I will also run some other tests to check her health status," he had related to us.
"Thank you, Doctor Thompson," I had said in gratitude.
She had been moved to a VIP room due to my status and the nurses here tended to her as per the doctor's order. I had stayed with her alongside Martha who had later returned home to oversee the palace affairs.
After a while, the doctor came to check on her.
"All is in the clear," he said to me with a smile, ascertaining that her health status was better.
"Thank you, Doctor Thompson."
"Let me go get her other test results so we can talk about it. I think she thinks a lot. Her blood pressure was high at the initial time." She stirred softly in her sleep and we both turned to look at her, expecting her to rouse. But, she did not. "Would you mind if we step outside so we do not wake the patient?" He asked me.
"Of course not," I said to him as we both made our way out of the room with me shutting the door gently behind me.
