15. Medical Check-up
Lucien led Clark towards his study room. He was still looking worried and so silent.
The young doctor was quietly observing his friend's unusual behavior. He was actually amused at how a cold man like Lucien Michaelson can be changed by such a beauty in a very quick span of time. If he was not mistaken, he heard Lucien said, they just met earlier today. But things had been so fast. Maybe Lucien is only guilty, thinking he brought this misfortune upon the lady. But Clark can sense something more than that. He wasn't so sure, but he thinks the guilty feeling is absolutely present, but there is more than that. More than just feeling guilty. Maybe and hopefully, cupid's bow hit his friend's heart right in the middle, and now he is smitten. Hopefully.
Clark was right to notice Lucien is too quiet. The young Michaelson was actually all ears listening if he would hear Brianna scream or cry even from a distance. He was physically in the study room, but his mind and half of his heart were left in the room where she was lying down on the soft bed.
"Hmmm..." Clark cleared his throat, earning a sharp glare from the all-focused-to-all-sound around him, Lucien. "Hey, if you're too worried to leave her with Nana, why did you lead me here?" Frowned Clark Jacobs.
His remark made Lucien realize he should quickly deal with this noisy friend of his and get back to Brianna sooner. He cannot feel comfortable being far from her, knowing she might wake up and cry in pain again.
"Can you give me anything for her pain if what happened earlier happens again later?" Lucien hurriedly asked. Not even bothered by what his friend just said with an obvious frown.
"I can give you a pain reliever, but I strongly suggest we bring her to the medical center for a thorough examination." Insists the young doctor. He was in awe at how everything seemed to be happening. But as a professional, he was after the welfare of the patient. He might need to convince Lucien to agree with his ideas, but he will still insist until he totally agrees.
"Can we make it when quietly?" Lucien understood the concerns his doctor friend is was trying to point out, but he was too scared to put her in danger again. He still did not know from who he should be careful, to begin with.
"Tell me when and how you want things done, I can arrange the things to be done on my part. Which means everything that concerns the procedures at the hospital." Clark dropped the playfulness and turned as serious as Lucien. He can tell now is not the right time to tease the man. He was like a protective beast towards his cub. There is no way Clark was getting out of it alive if he stepped on the wrong foot.
"Okay, I will arrange my men for tonight. We will try to figure out who the hell is behind this while waiting for the time to pass by." Lucien spoke with obvious rage. Clark can tell. Whoever is behind this won't receive mercy.
"What time tonight?"
"Midnight."
"Midnight it is. Do I need to ask for the hospital's security team to assist your men?" Asked Clark.
"No need. I don't want anyone not under my command to interfere." Lucien answered firmly. "And I suppose we can have her sedated all through the procedures until we get her safely back in here."
"I can do that. It would be quick and more efficient if she is cooperative." Clark smiled.
Lucien could not help his face to show a faint smile as he remembered how she could be sassy even for the short moment that they were able to be inside his car. He could make a vague picture in his mind of how she is going to be hellish if she woke up in the middle of a medical procedure.
"What?!" Clark was not able not to voice out his curiosity.
"I agree with you," Lucien finally answered to satisfy his friend.
"Agree to what exactly?" Clark made himself sound not so interested. But his eyes were undeniably waiting for whatever answer Lucien was about to say.
"She can really get into your nerves. She drove me mad before the car accident happened today." He laughed lowly as he can recall how she ignored her beside the driver's seat in the car.
"I wish to know the details, but I bet you won't share," Clark teased Lucien. He was actually hoping his friend will take the bait and tell him everything.
"You bet right. I won't spoil the fun of you being on my shoes one day when she recovers," now, Lucien's smile was so genuine. Clark saw how his cold-hearted friend warms up even with just the thought of his patient.
"I guess you find someone who won't just do as you say," Clark knew his friend wanted him to leave soon, so he took the initiative to say he is leaving. He is afraid Lucien would throw him out mercilessly if he dallies. "I will prepare everything and be here to give her the sedatives before midnight." Then he stood up from his seat and headed towards the door.
Lucien was glad to see the doctor leave. He was enthusiastic that he even send Clark to the door, least he comes back to say he forgot something. He made sure the young doctor was driving his car out of his villa's driveway before he headed back to the room where Brianna was asleep.
Nana Freya stood up to walk towards Lucien and softly asked her boss about the doctor's findings.
"We have to bring her to the hospital for thorough medical tests tonight, Nana." He answered, in the same manner the nanny had asked, in fear to wake the lady in bed up.
"Do you need me to prepare anything?" Asked the old lady.
"Maybe you can help us change her clothes into a patient's gown before we head to the hospital so she would be ready when we get there. We have to do everything in a limited time as we don't know who is behind all these." Explained Lucien.
"I understand."
"Nana, I will be gone for a while to prepare my men and check anything there is about what happened earlier today."
"Yes, go ahead. I will not leave her side." The nanny courteously replied. She knew what Lucien wanted to say, so she confirmed his worries.
"Can you please prepare soft food first? I will watch over her while you're in the kitchen, then I will leave when you get back." Concern was written all over his worried mien as he requested for his Nana to attend Brianna's meal. She might wake up while she's gone, so he wanted to make sure he was around when that happens so as not to scare her. He knew Brianna's state is quite unstable right at the moment. How he wished she would recover and be back at her sassy-confident self very soon.
"Okay, I will be right back."
Nana Freya left to prepare a soup. She agreed with Lucien's idea to never leave the lady alone. No one knows when she will wake up and how she will react when she realizes she is in a room she hasn't been to before. She was thinking of asking someone to prepare the meal had Lucien been busy and needed to leave before soon. But now that he is the one with the patient, Nana Freya can make sure the food she is going to prepare will surely be a nurturing food for a patient in a recovery state.
