24. My Heart Aches

Night came...
Everything seemed to be in the right place.
The security team led by Enzo was efficiently doing their jobs. Lucien was not aware of their number, but Grandpa Leandro made sure he should only focus on taking care of his friend. The security from his Villa to the hospital will be handled and fully monitored by the grandpa himself.
"They are all geared up," Leandro Michaelson informed Lucien. And the grandson knew what his grandfather meant with the words he just said.
They are in full combat. As a businessman and a big identity in the underworld, Leandro Michaelson obviously has many rivals and competitors. In order to make sure his safety was impenetrable, he first hired a team of a private army. But when he realized that a hired team would never be a hundred percent foolproof as their loyalty are never as solid as his own people, he built a private army of his own. Just like Enzo, he gathered people who would stand by his side through life and death, and with his righteous principles in life, he did not fail to create one. He searched for people with good characters victimized by the ruthless of life instances. He helped them rise again and regain their lives with the bargain that they would serve him from then on. Leandro may have bought them in a way, but he did not just consider his needs. He gave them respect equally and maybe more than he needed from them. Respect is something he believed is not only required from the other party. It should sprout from him to expect fruits of it to bore in the midst of their connections, with or without emotions involved. Respect and loyalty are like a dance. It takes two to tango.
Leandro may not have had the chance to educate himself by going to school during his youth as he was an orphan ever since his childhood, he was raised from foster to another foster family and ended up in the streets when he turned teenager as he decided to live on his own, but life's teaching and wisdom had been his best companion and asset to succeed in life.
And now, with all resources that he possesses, he did not want anything to happen to his family. Not under his watch. Not unless he can control and avoid any unacceptable circumstances. And definitely not something that would endanger his dearest grandson.
So tonight, he sent his best troop to protect Lucien and his probie on their so-called hospital appointment. He will stay in the security of his home, but he will be watching from different angles provided by his men wearing cameras and earpieces with mics to communicate with him. Enzo is there to lead the security team on the field, but Leandro will still be right beside them as he supervises the whole situation from his bird's eye view position.
Lucien went inside the room to check on Brianna and Nana Freya.
"Nana, we will have to head out in fifteen minutes," Lucien reminded his nanny.
"She's ready," the old lady replied softly. "She woke up in the afternoon, but she was dazed until she fell asleep again," Nana Freya paused as she looked at Lucien with a worried face.
"What happened, Nana? Please tell me so I can ask Clark about it, too," Lucien felt his heart throbs in fear for what the old lady was going to say. He could not deny that he is feeling scared to hear whatever it is, but he knew he still needs to know to be able to resolve it if it was a problem to be considered.
"She was silently crying," Freya was actually startled to see Brianna in such a state, but when she asked what was wrong, the beautiful lady just shook her head, and no words came out of her mouth, not even a sob to accompany her tears. But she was looking so hurt. So sad and confused as well. "She did not even say a word, but her tears dropped like the mid-summer rain."
"Why....?" Lucien asked with obvious desperation.
"I wish I knew what to tell you," Nana Freya sighed in helplessness.
Lucien walked over to sit beside a sleeping Brianna. And he saw tears fell from the side of her eyes. He wiped it gently, and as he stared at her innocent face, his heart ached for her.
"I wish I knew what is making you cry these much even in your sleep," he whispered. Without him knowing, his tears also started to cloud his sight. "I don't know why but my heart aches to see you in such a state. I like the feisty you way much better than this," Lucien held her hand and sniffed on her palm. Hoping she will wake up and hold his face warmly in her hand.
"The car is ready," Clark came in and announced his news without restrictions of his voice loudness. He was confident because he gave the patient a dose of sedative to keep her asleep until the next morning to be sure she won't wake up in the middle of their procedures.
Unaware of the emotional moment that was going on, Clark Jacobs walked to check if her drip was working. The patient needed it because, according to nana Freya, Brianna declined any food intake when she woke up, so he gave her a drip instead. They are not going to do any procedure that would need her blood for testing, so food intake was not restricted, but in her state, taking the pain killers and sedatives, she will need every nutrient she can get.
Lucien discreetly wiped his eyes as he moved back to give enough space for Clark beside Brianna's bed, but Clark noticed his movements from the corner of his sight. Still, the young doctor did not say anything. However, he was inwardly grinning at his best friend's reactions. He wanted to tease him, "I never thought I'd see the day you cry for a woman in her sleep." But he knew too well. This is not the right time to step on the line and poke a grizzly sad bear.
