29. Trapped
"We have to evacuate," Brianna stated. "We have to observe our surroundings and check for possible exits."
She spoke while looking around. She was looking for a good spot to hide while they waited for what was going to happen.
"Call for back-up, too," Brianna spoke directly to Tatum. She can sense this driver is not just a driver like Lucien, although Lucien didn't even introduce them together.
Tatum did as he was told. He found out the guys who were supposed to follow them were blocked just after Tatum made the last turn and was just about to call Tatum to inform him, but the latter made the call right before the team leader could dial a number. They are still waiting for the blocking car, which is a furniture shop delivery truck, to move to the side so they can get through. Brianna, who was on the side and could hear their conversation spoke.
"Tell the others to move on foot. But be cautious. We don't know where the other party might pop out," she suggested with a voice of authority.
Tatum did as Brianna suggested. He also briefed the security team leader of their situation. Soon, they noticed the same car that passed by earlier, passing by again at a slower speed.
"They must have noticed," Tatum whispered as they ducked their heads a few cars away from their ride.
The said car stopped right next to Lucien's car, and three men went out of the newly arrived vehicle.
"Do you recognize them?" She asked the two, Lucien and Tatum. To her disappointment, they both shook their heads.
"I have never seen these guys before," Tatum made his answer clearer by speaking it out in a hushed tone. He wasn't sure Brianna would have seen him responded as she was looking keenly at the three guys who were checking the car for any signs of passengers inside of it.
"I am not so sure, but I think I have seen these guys before, and my guts are telling me they are bad news, just not sure how or why," she frowned as she seemed to rack her brains for a specific memory.
"Fuck!" She hissed. "They're mercenaries," she realized they were in bigger trouble knowing who they were dealing with without enough weapons to defend themselves. "Call all the help we can get. They are no joke to deal with." She took out a tiny wire she saw from the toolbox earlier and started to pick the lock of the car they were hiding in. "The only way to get out of here alive is to escape. Without enough bullets, we are defenseless here."
She was thinking of using the car as their getaway ride and ask Lucien's men to return it to its place later.
It only took less than a minute for her to unlock the car. It was a minivan, so it wasn't so difficult to unlock. They had to be very careful not to make a sound, so they could only use one door to get into it, and she will have to start the engine without a key. She commanded Lucien to get in first and let him move into the back through the small space in between the front two seats, then she followed, and Tatum was supposed to drive while she prepared to deal with whatever may come along.
"You can make it start, right?" she asked Tatum.
"I haven't tried this before, but there is always a first time in everything," Tatum confidently answered.
"I suggest you make it in one try," Brianna replied. "They seem to be checking every car," she was looking at the side mirror, and she saw the guys checking every car from both sides of the road. "There are only six cars left before they reach us," she reminded Tatum. Although there was a little distance because there were few empty parking slots, it won't take so much time for the mercenaries to get to where they were if Tatum fails to start the engine right away.
Lucien felt the severity of the danger they were in when he saw how Brianna was obviously worried. With the confidence that he had known she had in her, she is not someone to get panicked over a petty thing or issue, but she is different right now. She still keeps her cool, but Lucien can feel she is also agitated, yet trying to keep her calm to handle the situation at hand. She is so focused on protecting him and doing her so-called hired bodyguard role. Lucien took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Enzo, I need help, please send some men," Lucien called his grandpa's assistant in fear that the old man would be agitated to know his dear grandson was in danger again. He is old. He shouldn't be told things like such issues without much time to explain. Enzo will know how to break the news to Leandro Michaelson later. Lucien needs the help right now.
He informed Enzo about their location, and they were told help would be on the way.
Enzo quickly commanded the IT team to monitor the situation and see if they could identify the attackers.
He sent the men to assist the young Michaelson. Then he made sure he could report the situation with resolves to present to Leandro Michaelson. He guided his boss to the monitoring room before he explained to him the current situation.
"What are we looking at, Enzo?" Asked Leandro.
"The Young Master is trapped in the area," Enzo started.
"Trapped?!" As expected, the old Michaelson was quickly agitated.
"There had been an accident on the main road, so motorists were directed to take a detour, but this might have been a plan all along. They were trapped in a neighborhood with a route to get through and through the main road, but the Young Master's security team were blocked a few meters away," Enzo explained as the surveillance footage played to clarify his report before the Mafia King.
"Who is it this time?" Asked a furious Leandro.
"We are still scanning their faces on our facial recognition database," Enzo courteously replied.
Tatum should have informed their men behind, but there was no way he could as he was busy being the one assigned behind the wheels.
"Can I have your phone? We need to warn the security team behind us," Brianna held out her hand. Tatum quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket and told Brianna his password. She made the call, and the other line answered quickly.
"Be warned, the mean after our boss is notorious mercenaries, shoot to kill when you have the chance. Because it will be your life to lose if you give them a chance," Brianna ordered firmly. Her voice became even more, firmer when she noticed the guys were only two cars away from their position. "Make a warning shot wherever you are right now," she whispered with pressure in her voice. "We need a diversion. We don't have many weapons to deal with these men. Fire three shots, right now!"
And just as she anticipated, the guys quickly turned their heads when they heard gunshots. They ran towards their ride, and the three inside the minivan exhaled loudly.
