26. His Hired Bodyguard

Brianna looked around and saw a man leaning with his face down on the bed, sleeping so peacefully.
"Why is he sleeping so uncomfortably here?" Brianna murmured, asking herself.
She tried to recall what happened. But all she could remember was he was her boss. That was all!
She paused for a good minute and tried to process her thoughts but the more she thinks hard, the pain in her head stings. She shook her head and blinked her eyes abruptly. The pain left, but the memory did not return. She decided to take it easy to remember. She didn't feel threatened in any way, so she took a deep breath and emptied her mind.
She was not aware of what she was doing exactly, but her body and mind took the lead in her every movement.
She slowly went down the bed and carefully lifted the man in her arms, and laid him comfortably on the bed. Her whole body aches from stay so long in bed. Brianna is used to lifting weights on her training, that although it wasn't so easy to lift the sleeping man up to the bed, she managed. Then she finds a place in the room to do her morning routine of meditation.
She closed her eyes sitting up straight with her legs crossed above each other, and let her mind flow freely.
In her mind, she tried to picture her situation. No matter how much she tries, she cannot remember anything aside from the fact that the man she saw when she woke up was her boss. She is not even sure she knew his name. She cannot recall how to call him other than Sir. Her mind was strongly reminding her that she had to protect this man. From whatever she is not even aware of. Maybe she was hired to be his personal bodyguard? And with that thought, she decided to put her mind to her job. That is all that matters now.
Just like her body knew everything she had to do, her eyes opened after a twenty-minute meditation. She went to the bathroom and washed up. She realized she was wearing a man's shirt and shorts. She had no one to asked about her clothes. so she kept the clothes after a quick shower. She checked the shelves behind the mirrors in the bathroom lavatory for a spare toothbrush, and she found some. She cleaned up, brushed her teeth, and came out of the adjacent toilet of the guestroom she was occupying. Her "boss" was still sleeping cozily. She sat on the chair he was sitting in earlier and waited for him to wake up. Her body and mind were alert for any sound from outside the room. She was not familiar with the whole place, so her vigilance was doubled. She is not aware of what situation was there outside the room. She just hoped he would wake up sooner so she could ask him what she should do or at least what she should wear.
And as if her prayers were heard, she saw him stretched in bed. She stayed still. Not making even the slightest sound. Then he blinked his eyes as if he was confused about something.
"Brianna?!" Lucien jumped up and sat on the bed, looking for her.
"Who is Brianna?" She asked.
"Wahhhhhh!" Lucien shrieked in so much horror seeing his patient so fine seated on the chair he asked to be placed on her bedside so he could watch over her the whole night. Realizing he was on the bed and she was seated there, he was feeling shivers all over his body. "What are you doing there? Why am I here?" his questions rumbled out of his mouth.
"What happened?" the nanny came rushing into the room. But she was more astonished to see the situation so different from how they were last night.
Brianna did not know what to say. Still, she explained the situation.
"He was asleep on the chair hovering on the bed, I can tell he was uncomfortable, so I put him up to the bed and let him sleep better," she casually answered.
Lucien and Nana Freya were speechless.
"Do you remember everything?" Lucien cautiously answered.
Brianna froze to check if she did. She fiercely bit her lip. Then she shook her head.
"What do you remember?" he asked again.
"Honestly? I don't even remember my name," she admitted. "All I know is you are my boss. Did you hire for a personal bodyguard?"
Lucien was not surprised to hear her first statement. But her last sentence caught him off-guard. Is this a part of her illness? Should he play along? But among things that she could choose to cosplay with him, bodyguard?!, he was totally at a loss for words to say.
"I do need a bodyguard, but I also need a secretary," Lucien made the situation sensible. She would be in danger if he let her play as his bodyguard. True dangers are lurking around him. He did not want to put her in such danger.
"I think I can do both," Brianna nodded. Then she boldly asked. "Can you give me a briefing on what I am supposed to do? And what clothes do I wear?"
The old lady was so astounded. She did know what to do nor say. She was silently listening to the two exchanging questions and answers. Lucien winked at his Nana when he was sure Brianna was not looking, and the old lady got his message. They are supposed to ride into her memory.
"You said you don't remember your name...?" Asked Lucien after she asked Nana Freya to get some clothes for her.
"Yes, sir," Brianna answered firmly. Lucien couldn't help but smile.
"For someone who cannot remember her name, you are the calmest to admit it without a fuss," he chuckled. "How about Anna?"
"Suit yourself. I don't think the name matters. I am here to do my job, anyway," Brianna answered with confidence. "Please let me know the whole situation so I can do my job effectively and efficiently."
"Let's keep things slow," Lucien was still dizzy from all the things that surprised him early in the morning. "We have to be discreet. My enemies shouldn't know that my secretary is also my bodyguard, so we can freely look around and check the suspicious people in our surroundings."
Lucien randomly answered to satisfy her inquiries.
