39. Doubting Her

Tatum drove the car to where Brianna was holding the guy restrained. Lucien wanted to help, but Brianna restricted him. She was waiting for anything Tatum would give her to tie the captive up securely.
"Sir, please get in the car. We will put this guy in the trunk, and we will head out," Brianna stated. But Lucien did not comply. He stood there watching every move she made.
She skillfully tied the man with a rope. Tatum helped to lift the guy into the trunk, but both Lucien and Tatum were taken by surprise when Brianna checked the guy's mouth for something and pulled out of it a capsule.
"What's that?" Asked an amused Lucien.
"Cyanide capsule, sir," Brianna nonchalantly answered.
"You mean a poison?" Lucien asked again. He could not believe what and how she just said it like it was very common knowledge to know for everyone and only he did not get the notice. Lucien looked up at Tatum, questioning. But Tatum was equally shocked as he was, so he could not glare at the poor driver. Lucien looked back at Brianna, who was busily searching for anything in the captive's body.
"They are supposed to take that when they get the chance to avoid being captured alive and tortured for any information," she patiently explained. "He would have bitten it crack when he wakes up have we not taken it out of his mouth while he was out," she added as she pulled an earpiece out of his ear.
"And what is that?" Lucien asked again.
"Their way to communicate and possible tracker. We will need to check him thoroughly to make sure he isn't leading his team towards us without us knowing," she answered. Then she dusted her hands and closed the trunk. "Let's go to the armory. I need to see what else do you have useful for me tonight. I am going for a hunt," Brianna walked to open the backseat's door for Lucien.
"We aren't too safe here, sir. We got to go. Now..." Brianna's eyes roamed around so quickly. As if s slight glance would be enough to see if danger was lurking around somewhere.
Tatum was already sitting in the driver's seat, and Brianna waited for Lucien to get in the car.
Lucien was too shocked to move and react to what he had just witnessed about Brianna. He felt she was a different person from the lady he talked to during the interview. He had been trying to look back and check if there were any chance that Brianna Peters he spoke to for an interview was replaced by this Brianna Peters who can protect him and had been doing so ever since she woke up from a day of sleep.
"Sir, we have to go," Brianna could no longer wait, so she walked over to Lucien's side and held his arms to guide him getting into the backseat. Then she closed the door and sat beside Tatum upfront.
"Sir, where to?" Tatum politely asked when They all got seated in the car.
"Where do you bring your captives?" asked Brianna before Lucien could ever answer. "Don't tell me you will bring this man around and keep him in the trunk while you're in your office, sir?" Brianna turned her head to have a clear look at Lucien.
Lucien realized Brianna was asking him where to bring the captive for questioning.
"Let's go to grandpa's basement, let them deal with this guy. I will call Enzo to inform him," the boss answered while starting to dial a number on his phone. Then he spoke to Enzo about their arrival.
"And I need some things, too," Brianna added. What she said reminded Lucien of her words about hunting.
"You're not serious about that, are you?" Lucien barked at her. He was really agitated that she was thinking about hunting these mercenaries down. She said it herself. These men are top-notched. What chances are there for her to come back alive? The thought alone haunts him. He cannot let her go on a suicide mission.
"Sir, that is my job. I cannot just wait when they are coming to attack. It is best to take them unguarded when they don't expect me to hunt them while they are busy hunting you. You can use your men to guard the front door while I turn around them to stand on their back and bring them down, one by one," she answered without even a slight hesitation. No fear of anything that might pop out of her expectations. It was as if she was playing a chess game where she knew precisely how her opponents were going to make the next move.
"That's insane. I cannot let you do that," Lucien answered with obvious horror.
"Don't worry. They want you alive. Just make sure they don't get a hold of you," she stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
"How do you even know that?" Lucien was blown off again.
"Because they could have taken you down already if that was their goal," she answered with certainty. "That shot earlier was for me. I am blocking their way," she scorned. "They could have taken you down if you were their target."
She was standing on Lucien's right side while Tatum was to his left as they walked to their car, but Lucien was trying to protect her that he moved Brianna to stand in between him and Tatum that moment the shooter must have been aiming, and he moved the barrel into a different direction when he noticed Lucien's position had changed. He could not shoot Lucien as they needed him alive, so the bullet went to the car to their side.
She cannot let the same thing happen again. Lucien is her employer. She is supposed to protect him, not the other way around. She has to end this mess before it gets out of total control. Bianca thinks Lucien is a gentleman by nature, that he keeps feeling concerned about her well-being. She also feels slightly annoyed that he doesn't seem to be confident she knows what she is doing, but she is also touched that he shows concern for her. She cannot recall having so many of such emotions, no matter how hard she tries to remember. She is not so sure as she cannot remember much, but she likes the feeling, although she cannot show them as it feels weird. She wants to express her gratitude by making sure this man is safe. Words are too few for her and unnecessary. She can show her sincerity by actions which she is very confident she can clearly express. For Brianna, actions always speak louder than words.
They arrived at a mansion. Tatum stopped at an underground basement. She got off the car when she saw the two men with her getting off of it as well. A man in his middle ages was waiting by a door leading into the house.
"Enzo, he is in the trunk. Would you please check for any tracker as Anna here worries this guy will lead his friends to where we are?" Lucien greeted. "By the way, Anna, this is Enzo. Enzo, this is Anna. My secretary slash bodyguard," Lucien introduced the two.
"Hi, Enzo! Can I have a look at your armory?" Brianna asked directly.
Enzo looked up at Lucien, asking about something silently. Lucien nodded.
"I don't think she will ever stop until she gets what she wants, so please, show her what she is asking for," Lucien replied.
Enzo was startled at how Lucien was being so loose around this lady. Even if she is that good in her job,
what makes the young Michaelson so comfortable and trusting? She can be faking things and kill them all when they are unguarded because they trust her too much.
"Are you doubting me, Enzo? I could have killed your boss if I was after him. Besides, he saved my life earlier. I should return the favor when I have the chance, don't you think so?" Brianna spoke her assessment of how Enzo was reacting. She can clearly see the reluctance in his countenance at Lucien's orders. Brianna was not offended. She knew it was normal for Enzo to react the way he did. They are all after their employer's safety, anyway.
What she said amused Lucien.
"Is she right, Enzo? Do you doubt her?" Lucien smiled as he asked his grandpa's right-hand man. He was curious if Brianna's words were right. It's not easy to read Enzo's character and behavior, after all.
