35. A Weird Guy
"Try to check if you can trace the car that sent Anna to work that day of her interview," Lucien asked Tatum to move closer as he was not sure when Brianna would be back. "I cannot recall exactly what car it was, not even the color as I have seen a lot of cars ever since then. I suggest you check the surveillance cameras around the vicinity of the company surveillance did not capture it. She was dropped upfront of the building, the main entrance."
"Yes, sir," replied Tatum shortly. "Ahh, may I ask what specifically do I have to look for?" Tatum was reluctant to ask, but he wanted to be sure.
"Check where that car is right now and who was driving it," Lucien dismissed Tatum when he heard a door open and shut. "You can go now," he spoke in his normal voice, unlike earlier when Bianca was not around. He was almost whispering.
"Yes, sir."
Lucien was curious to find that Brianna had no one to contact for an emergency. He was sure he saw a man drive her to his company building the first day he saw her. But as he was engrossed in her beauty, Lucien did not get a good look at the car or at the man who sent her here. Now he suddenly realized there was someone, but she did not want to declare.
"Let's go for lunch!" Lucien stood from his seat when Brianna got back. He checked if she had any weapon visible in her. He found none with his naked eye. He wonders if she has anything with her right now. "Where did you hide them?" he humorously asked.
"Right here," she pointed at her right ankle with a small gun. "Here," at her right thigh. "And here," she lifted her shirt, and Lucien saw knives on her belt sheath. "But I need a clutch bag for a pistol. These clothes cannot hide much." She only had a gun in her ankle as she was wearing creme colored slacks pants, only knives could be hidden around her thighs, and a few magazines for her ankle gun
Brianna was frustrated, but she did not have any other clothes to change into.
Lucien opened a drawer in his desk and checked if his unused clutch bag was still in there. It was no longer there. He pressed an interphone button, and Vicky came in right away.
"Yes, boss?" Vicky asked.
"Do you have an extra bag to lend Anna for today? She didn't bring hers, and she needed one for today," Lucien explained, all without hesitations. He was not sure Vicky would have anything to provide at the moment, but the feeling of providing what Anna needed prevailed in him that he didn't care if he sounded unbelievable right now. he had never asked Vicky for such a thing ever.
Vicky was beyond astonished. She did not know how to react to his question. He sounded asking, but she felt like he was demanding her to lend Anna a bag whether she had it or not! Well, for Vicky, that was how his eyes were talking to her, although his words seemed just to be asking a simple question.
"Ahhh, ahhhmmm... I think I have one," Vicky stuttered as she wasn't sure if her answer was right to what she thought was her boss waiting for her to say.
"Good!" Lucien blurted happily. "We will be out for lunch in five minutes. Please bring the bag over in three. Thanks, Vicky!"
Vicky Reed got his message loud and clear this time. Her boss just told her to hurry up. Giving her specific time to do the task means he is in a hurry.
"Just a minute, sir," Vicky quickly left, as fast as she could. She will have to empty her bag and lend it to Brianna. She didn't mind, but she was stunned. This had never happened to them before. "What is with the boss lately?" Vicky murmured as she hurriedly unloaded everything inside her bag. Then she returned to his office with the bag in her hands.
"Here, Sir, this is the only one available," Vicky politely and gently placed the bag on Lucien's desk.
It was a black leather squared handbag of a globally well-known brand and maker.
"Thanks," Lucien answered. Then he turned to Brianna. "Anna, see if this bag will suffice to what you needed," he reached for the bag and placed it in the direction closer to Brianna.
With Vicky still in the office, Brianna walked to the center table where Tatum put down the bag of weapons and chose a gun after giving the bag a good look, estimating the size.
Vicky did not know the contents of the big black bag Tatum was carrying earlier. She was startled when she saw Brianna was holding a pistol walking towards Lucien. Then she put the gun into the bag. As she was satisfied her choice was right, Brianna took the bag with her and gathered more bullet-filled magazines, and put them in the bag as well.
Brianna was doing things with coolness and confidence that Vicky could assume she is used to doing such things. Vicky turned her bulging and questioning eyes to her boss. She wanted to ask, what Brianna was doing, but words could not come out of her mouth.
Lucien saw and understood the message of Vicky's glances, but he just winked at her. The secretary understood her boss' answer, so she nodded her head to confirm. He cannot answer her right in front of Anna. Vicky will have to wait until her boss gets the chance to brief her on what is going on.
"Take your lunch break now, Vicky," Lucien reminded her. "We might be back late."
"Yes, sir," Vicky answered, then left.
Lucien was thinking of bringing Anna to buy things she needed. He can tell she needs to have her own choice of clothes.
"Ready to go, Anna?" Lucien asked.
"Yes, sir," she answered politely.
Lucien dialed a number before leaving his office.
"We are leaving, prepare the car," then he cut the all right after stating his order.
Brianna could tell he was talking to Tatum. Then they walked out of his office.
Just like how they walked into the building in the morning, Brianna was protectively walking behind him with the same thick sunglasses he borrowed from the driver. This way, she can look at their surrounding without being noticed. She is checking for any suspicious person around them.
And likewise, Lucien tried to make her stand side by side with him by creating a conversation.
"Anna?" he called.
"Yes, sir?" she answered.
"Please stand beside me," he ordered. She complied, yet her eyes were cautiously observing around.
"What would you like to eat for lunch?" Asked Lucien.
"Anything would be fine with me, sir," she answered with her eyes not leaving on someone looking right back at her.
She was wearing sunglasses, but she could feel the person is trying to penetrate her gaze. He seemed to send her some sort of a message. She checked if the person would make any attempt to attack, but he didn't. They got closer to the person as she and Lucien were walking out of the building, but the man was standing at the same spot, casually looking around, but whenever he would meet Brianna's eyes, he seemed to speak with his frowns and squinting glances at her. They passed by him, and Brianna still could not understand what he was doing. She was getting ready to pull a knife in her waist as they walked closer to the unknown guy, just in case he made a move, Brianna was getting ready to defend and protect her client. To her surprise and relief, the guy did not do anything. They reached their ride, and Brianna courteously opened the door for her boss, Lucien Michaelson, then she got in the front passenger's seat.
She looked behind through the mirror to see if the guy was still there, and she felt weird at what she saw. The guy was jaw-dropped, following his gaze at them in the car leaving the area. Like he couldn't believe what he was looking at or what he just saw. It made Brianna frown.
"Who was that?" she softly murmured.
