33. Proving her Abilities

Tatum left with a black bag full of different kinds of weapons. Leandro Michaelson ordered Enzo to prepare the bag with Tatum and make sure the more reliable easy to carry weapons of any kind were placed inside the bag. Then he demanded to dig everything there is about the new lady bodyguard that is said to be doing an excellent job around Lucien.
“I want to know everything there is about this bodyguard. Do I make myself clear?” Leandro sternly stated. He did not even want to mention that the person he was so curious about was a woman.
“Yes, Master,” Enzo replied mannerly. Then he excused himself to execute the tasks he was ordered to do. Leaving a still frowning in annoyance and bewilderment Leandro as the thoughts of what Tatum said earlier replayed in his mind.
Enzo did everything he could. And he presented the results to his Master right away.
“What?!” Leandro snarled at Enzo when he saw the file stating everything about the lady. Or the girl, as what the file says if he understood it right. “She’s even younger than my grandson! And she doesn’t have any records about being a bodyguard or any kind close to what her job description states right now! Are you sure you are doing your job well, Lorenzo James?!”
Enzo stood as respectful as he always did and did despite Leandro roaring like an agitated Lion. Enzo understands that whatever is in the file doesn’t satisfy his Master. He was caught in disbelief himself when he saw the results of what the IT staff found about Brianna Peters.
“How about asking the Young Master about the details?” Enzo politely suggested. “We cannot expect her to expose her identity if she is that good in her job,” he boldly added.
Knowing how Leandro Michaelson feels about having a lady to protect his grandson instead of his well-screened chosen personal bodyguards offered to Lucien wish were declined, again and again, Enzo knew why the Old Michaelson is infuriated.
Leandro massaged his temples as they seemed to ache with all the pressure and disappointment he was feeling at the moment. Enzo might just be right. Lucien would never allow such arrangements if they weren’t beneficial for him. And knowing how his dear grandson treats women around him, Leandro is also curious in a way as much as he was furious. Taking Enzo’s suggestion, he dialed Lucien’s personal number.
“Hi, grandpa! I suppose you have heard about what happened today,” Lucien spoke with the phone clipped by his shoulder to stay in place as both his hands were busy with the paperwork.
“Correct me if I am wrong, but I have heard you have a lady bodyguard protecting you. Is that true?” Leandro shot his bows as soon as he heard Lucien speaking on the other end of the line.
Lucien looked up to see Brianna busy looking at the surveillance camera, which she demanded to have in his room as she guards him while ensuring their surroundings’ safety. Then she would walk by the window and check for anything. They are on the top floor of a sixty-story building, and Lucien teasingly reminded her of that fact, but he was gobsmacked when she answered.
“It would be easier to reach you here if they make it to climb to the roof and use a rope to get into his office.”
She definitely has a point! But how did she get all of those ideas like she would do it herself if she were them? And the most shocked Lucien was how she said them like it was something too obvious for him not to realize. He was startled and amazed at the same time. He observed what she was doing in slight glances as he also needed to attend to his paperwork. She checked the whole place for anything suspicious while waiting for the tech department and security to set up a table and few screens for Brianna’s post in his office.
“Anna, can you wait by the door? I need to take this call privately,” Lucien covered the mouthpiece of his phone before he spoke gently to Brianna.
“Yes, Sir,” Brianna politely replied. She just hoped that window isn’t where his enemies are going to get in while she is out by the door.
“Thanks,” Lucien uttered before uncovering the mouthpiece and speaking to his grandpa, who was impatiently waiting on the other line.
“Grandpa, sorry to keep you waiting,” Lucien apologized as soon as he heard his grandpa grunting in, what he could be sure was annoyance. He was aware the old Michaelson was not very happy to find out he was having a bodyguard of his choice, and it’s a woman.
“Please let me explain, okay?” Lucien politely started.
“Go ahead. I am listening. I just hope I will understand anything that you would say. I am so furious right now. I am telling you,” the grandpa was obviously grumpy, but he wanted to control his anger as to why he told Lucien his heart’s content.
“She is the one I told you about. The one who saved me and needed to be brought to the hospital for a medical check-up. She is suffering from memory loss after that incident. Now all she remembers is she being my bodyguard.” Lucien stated everything clearly for his grandpa not to be so upset. “Clark Jacob says her overall medical results were good except for this memory glitch. But she is good at it, actually. I am surprised myself. Would you like to meet her?”
Leandro made sure he was hearing clearly everything that Lucien was saying.
“So, you mean to say that the on probation secretary that saved you the other day is this lady bodyguard that had been with you all morning when you got trapped on the road today?” Leandro asked.
“Yes.”
“And I heard from your driver who came to get some weapons here today that she is capable. Is that also true?”
“Yes.”
“I tried to check her background, but there isn’t anything useful to prove her abilities,” the grandpa was not so at ease to entrust his dear grandson’s life at the hand of someone who isn’t capable of doing the job.
“You should see her yourself. Then you judge after,” Lucien was feeling confident.
“By the way, how did our men handle the attackers? Anna said something about them being top-notch mercenaries,” Lucien remembered to ask.
“That was actually weird. They seemed to know our next move that they did not get trapped by our men who were positioned on the last block before your car got into the main road,” Leandro answered. “I have a feeling they have eyes above to see what is up ahead and make them move accordingly to their benefit. These guys are really professional, top-notch indeed.”
Leandro and Enzo were watching through the installed camera on their men in the field as well as some surveillance cameras installed in the vicinity, but they clearly saw when the car chasing Lucien made a sharp turn when they saw a wide space empty for them to make a turn. There was no way they would have known about the backup sent for Lucien’s rescue if they did not have anyone watching ahead for them and informed them in time.
“So she is right to worry for another episode of attack coming our way any time soon, I guess,” Lucien chuckled.
But what he said made Leandro felt scared.
“Your secretary is not what we know she is. I can tell you that. Be careful. Never let yourself off-guard.”
Lucien smiled at how his grandpa was reacting. But to make him feel at ease, Lucien courtly answered.
“Yes, grandpa, don’t worry, I will make sure I am safe,” then he smiled at himself.
Maybe, his grandpa is right to worry about Brianna’s true identity, and it’s just the foolish him that trusts her so much. But with how dedicated she is in keeping him safe, with how professional she is in doing her duties, and with how secure he feels with her around him, he cannot give her even the slightest doubt no matter who she is.
