16. Investigate
Only Lucien and the sleeping Brianna were left in the very spacious guest room when the nanny went to do as her boss had asked her to. Lucien walked over to the bed.
He cannot take his eyes off the serene and peaceful beauty with her long, curly raven-black hair, which was in a bun earlier this morning, now freely spread all over the white covered pillow she was lying into. She has milky white skin from her face down to her neck, and as his eyes traced down her exposed skin, he noticed a line of a scar under the end of the shirt's left sleeve. Not really sure how long it was, but he can tell it wasn't where it ends. And with the thick scar it appeared to be, he can also tell it was from a serious wound.
"Could she have had an accident while racing?" He thought as he remembered she said she was a racer by heart. And then, he realized something.
"I need to know more about her," he was thinking about calling his secretary Vicky to ask her to send the files regarding Brianna as soon as possible. He might need to send protection to them as well. They might also be in danger of being connected with her.
His thoughts were cut off by the sound of the door softly being opened. He walked forward to help his Nana Freya lift the tray of food she personally prepared and placed it on the bedside table on Brianna's right. He also fished something out of his pocket. Then turned to the nanny.
"Please give her a pain reliever if she needs them," Lucien Spoke with utmost care not to let his voice sound too loud as he placed the pad of capsules that Clark Jacobs handed him before he left a while ago. He really hoped in his heart. She won't cry again as she did earlier. Although he won't be around to hear her, it still wrings his heart to even just to know she is in pain.
"Yes, sir."
"Don't leave her side, Nana, please?" Lucien pleaded like it really scared him to know she will be alone.
"I won't. I promise," the nanny replied politely. "Don't worry about us here, do what you have to do."
The old lady's words reminded Lucien about many things that he indeed has to deal with. And deal with them as soon as possible. He walked over to Brianna to gently caress her forehead and softly uttered, " I will be right back," then he gave Nana a supplicating gaze, and she nodded in response. They exchange silent requests and confirmations as they consider the patient not to be disturbed. When Lucien was reassured completely, he headed for the door.
"Stay by the door and be alert in case Nana Freya needs help," he ordered the other servants.
He once hired a butler, but he transferred the guy to another home when he noticed his Nana Freya seemed at a loss of her proper disposition and job designation.
The old lady is his nanny, but since he is all grown up to be needing one, Nana had so much free time where she leads the servants to guide them on what to and not to do according to Lucien's liking. When the butler came, Nana felt useless and not needed anymore. Lucien noticed her feeling down. He quickly removed the butler from his villa and sent it to his grandpa.
The old man was so happy thinking his dear grandson was concerned about him. He happily accepted the servant even though he already had a butler in his home. He sent the new one to another Villa, where they usually visit for family vacations.
And the problem was settled. And his Nana Freya became lively and happy again.
Ever since then, he officially told all his house servants to listen to his Nana Freya. If anyone she says to fire, he won't ask for any reason as he believes and trusts his Nana, so they have to obey and respect her as their senior. And even if he didn't say so, everyone respects her. Even the butler respected her. She is kind and wise, that people around her cannot find it in their hearts to dislike or hate her in any way.
Along his way to his car, Lucien made a call. He called his secretary Vicky.
"I need everything there is about Brianna Peters, Vicky," Lucien shoot his questions as soon as his secretary answered the phone.
"Shall I send them to you now, Boss?" Asked Vicky. "I still have the folder of her files from the interview. I can read them out for you, or I can also send them to you by email if you prefer to see them and read every detail."
"Email, please. Thanks!"
And just as he asked, Vicky Reed quickly sent him the files that tell everything they can find about Brianna Peters. Not knowing many of the indicated details, there was superficial. Aside from her credentials which can be asked and confirmed through the sources if one would really dig about them, her address, her family history, and personal information which are not eye-catching for an employee to be questioned were made up by Jack, that was to make sure her mission was concealed.
Lucien arrived at his garage and saw his driver standing by the key holder box on the wall. He was waiting for Lucien to tell him which car is he going to choose to go to this time.
"Hey, didn't I say you go visit your dad?" Asked Lucien as he chooses to pick the least eye-catching car among the six in his garage. The black Bentley. His Bentley Continental GT model from 2019, Onyx Black. With its windows heavily tinted, no one from the outside will know who is inside the car. And that is what he needed right now. He needed to secure his identity as he tries to find out who is trying to harm him. Again, this time. Just like his friend Clark Jacobs had said.
"I'm sorry, boss, I heard what happened from Nana while I was letting her know I was leaving for a sudden day off," the driver, Tatum Elliot, answered. "I am sure you would need me more than my dad. He might even kill me if he knew I left you in situations like today." He scratched his head as he tried his best to explain.
"I will let you slip this time," Lucien smiled as he warned. He was actually glad he was around. He won't be able to focus on driving if he is going to talk to few people over the phone on his way to wherever he is going right now. He threw the key at Tatum and headed to the backseat. He will need to read the files Vicky had sent him.
"Let's give my loving dad a visit," Lucien ordered as soon as they got seated inside his car.
"Yes, boss." The driver courteously answered.
Lucien was thinking his dad might know something being connected with the underworld. A reputation he is doing his very best to shake off from his name.
