40. Capable and Dependable
Enzo was inwardly taken aback by what she had just said. He is known to be unpredictable and unreadable, but he felt naked in front of this lady, Anna. She is too sharp to point his reactions like it was too obvious not to notice.
But he was also impressed that she did not make it sound like she was offended. She even stated it like she was praising him for being calculative to a stranger like her. Her answer also made sense. Why would she come all the way around here if her target is the young Michaelson? Noticing how the latter trusted her already, there is no need for the lady to come this far. She could have taken him as a hostage and ask the old Michaelson for anything, and she could get whatever she would ask in exchange for the Young Michaelson's life.
So, all in all, his doubts were useless and unnecessary.
He cleared his throat before he replied to Lucien.
"My apologies," Enzo slightly nodded his head to Brianna.
Enzo's answer confirmed Lucien's thoughts. Anna can really see right through Enzo!? That was unbelievable! Even his grandpa, Leandro, cannot do such things all the time. The Mafia King could guess Enzo's thoughts once in a while, but not at a first and single glance!
"I understand. I, myself, will never show my armory to a stranger. It's just that we are in great haste. I wouldn't mind the process of getting to know me first, but I am afraid that would be too late," Brianna answered.
Then she continued, "As you know, we had been attacked twice in a day already. We can't be sure if they have given up or if we have hit a nerve on them, and they are coming even more prepared on their next move, which we cannot be too willful not to get ourselves ready."
"This way, please," Enzo led the way into another door leading to a stair going down. "What kinds of weapon do you prefer?" he asked as they walked.
"I need the best you got. The guys after the boss are top-notched mercenaries. I don't remember exactly, but I can recognize their moves. They even want me dead so they can have their way with the boss. They want him alive, I noticed." Brianna was not even surprised when they arrived at a room full of high-quality weapons.
Enzo stood next to a ready-to-fire weapon just in case she brought chaos with her. They were in a place where both the high targeted Michaelson's are in the same spot. He cannot be too trustful like the Young MasterLucien. He kept his eyes watching her every move as she checked the weapons.
She was checking the AK-47 in her arms. She picked a few magazines for it and a silencer.
She was busy doing her thing while the men surrounding her were enjoying watching her every move. She checked a smaller gun for close combat. Anna placed it along with the first weapon she had chosen earlier. Then she looked around. She was looking for a bag to put them into the pile.
"Need anything else, Anna?" Lucien asked in amusement.
"I actually need a bag to put these things into and..." she turned her eyes to Enzo. "A sniper rifle. I am sure you have one, with all these weapons you have here." Brianna confidently stated.
Enzo was even more astounded to realize that she wasn't merely asking. She was demanding for it. As if she wouldn't buy it if he ever says they don't have what she is looking for.
"Enzo, we need to eliminate the master of this attack. Minions will keep coming even if we take every batch down. And I need a snipe shot to do that," Brianna took the initiative to explain herself, noticing Enzo could not voice out his thoughts.
"How do you know who to shoot?" Enzo asked cautiously.
"I don't know yet. That is why we need to ask the guy we brought here," she replied. "But I will leave that task to you. Every minute we waste is crucial. They must have noticed one body is missing from their count. They will start to doubt we have one of them in our hands. He had a cyanide capsule in his mouth earlier. Fortunately for us, I got it out before he regained consciousness and bit it to crack and get poisoned. He wouldn't be useful to us when he's dead, so I suggest you make use of this chance. I will head out and try to trace what my memory can give me. You can ask your men to follow from a distance if you want. But I do my work alone. I don't like baggage." She spoke without hurry as she busily checked weapons that might still be useful to her in this mission. Then she picked night vision goggles and a piece of black zentai suit among the rack with combat shoes and clothing garments section.
This room is the place where their private army gears up when they are to go to missions or battles. They have everything they might need from head to toe.
Brianna is familiar with such a room because she herself one like this in her very own home. And so she is well aware. Not all of their weapons are visible here. The best weapons are expected to be hidden and be taken only with clearance. She was waiting when Enzo would take her to see the best of their stashes in the house. She took a halt and turned to Enzo.
"Can I have that sniper gun now? Or do we need clearance from the higher authorities?" Brianna politely asked. She was also aware that there might be some things Enzo cannot decide alone.
"Please wait a moment," Enzo fished his phone out of his pocket and pressed on a speed dial. The line was connected right away.
Leandro Michaelson was actually watching everything that was taking place in his basement. It was his armory. The alarm system would automatically send him a warning once the door password was pressed into it to get in. He was watching and listening to their conversation the whole time. He was also amazed how the girl could read Enzo at first glance.
"I want to meet her," Leandro declared right away.
"She is asking for something longer than what we have here," Enzo replied.
"Tell her she will get what she wants after I hear the answers to the immediate questions that I have for her," Leandro disclosed.
She is undoubtedly competent as to what the old Michaelson can see of her. Her actions aren't even shady. She tends to speak whatever is in her mind. She is convincingly capable and dependable. No wonder his grandson, Lucien, is comfortable and confident having her around him. But he wants to hear her plans. He also heard her say they can send their men behind her to make sure this plan works, and he is thinking of doing so. Just in case she runs out of luck and his men can lend a hand to help her, he wants this girl to stay beside his grandson. He can see Lucien himself admires this girl. But he can also see, the girl isn't even interested in his grandson as a man. It's quite a shame, but he can suffice with whatever connections they can create. Having her by Lucien's side would also clear the issue of his masculinity as she isn't seen with girls around. His secretary is an old lady, and his all-time side-by-side helper is also a man. He needs a little feminine view in his image. A girlfriend would be good, a fiancee would be great, but a wife would definitely be the best!
"Yes, Master," Enzo courteously responded. He formally spoke to Brianna after his conversation with the old Michaelson.
"The Master would like to speak to you as he prepares the weapon you are asking for," he stated with his typical cold and calm countenance. Professional. Strict. Unapproachable.
"I understand," Brianna did not mind his intimidations. She wasn't daunted in any way. She can even see herself in him. She held her right hand up as if showing him the way. "After you."
Lucien, leaning on a wall as he watched everything unfold in his eyes, was amused to see how Enzo and Anna have some slight similarities.
