32. Who Is She?
“A cup of coffee and the list of weapons you would like to have brought here,” Lucien answered when he saw Brianna was no longer patient to wait for his orders. He actually had the answer in his mind ever since they were in the lift going up to his office, but he intentionally delayed saying them as he wanted her close, side by side with him, not behind him like a bodyguard as to her knowledge. “Please tell Vicky to be in my office on your way out,” he added. He needed to brief Vicky of their arrangement to be sure Brianna would not feel distressed since Clark said she was having a memory loss.
“How do you like your coffee is made, Sir?” Brianna asked before leaving his office.
“I will take any coffee you would bring me. You can make it according to your preferences,” Lucien nonchalantly answered. He was not even looking at her as he busied himself, checking the pile of folders on his desk.
He was not able to get to work yesterday, and now, they are piled up.
Brianna left as soon as he said she could make the coffee according to her taste. It won’t be difficult, but he should never complain later, or he might regret it.
“Hi, Vicky! The Boss is asking for you to be in his office. I am going to prepare coffee for him,” Brianna thought she had to explain everything to Vicky. She wasn’t sure why but she did as she felt. Brianna spoke with unconcealed respect towards the lady, but Vicky felt different. Brianna seemed to be different from the lady she ushered to the interview room yesterday. Her stand was even smarter than she saw yesterday. Her countenance radiates confidence more than she saw in her yesterday.
‘What happened? Is she the same person I met yesterday?’ Vicky could not voice out her thoughts as they might sound absurd or offensive. She just bit her tongue and kept her fingers crossed her Boss would somehow enlighten her.
“Thanks!” Vicky answered with a faint smile. Brianna seemed to be waiting for her confirmation about receiving the order before she left to get the coffee for Lucien. Then she walked towards the Boss’ office. She gently knocked on the door before getting in. Since he called for her, she did not have to wait for his response when she knocks on his door. It was just for courtesy.
“Please lock the door,” Lucien ordered as soon as he saw it was Vicky at the door. And Vicky complied. Lucien would occasionally order such when they need the privacy about something to discuss.
“Brianna Peters cannot remember anything after the accident yesterday. She doesn’t remember that she came here to apply as my secretary. She thinks she is here as my personal bodyguard and that her secretary job is just the cover for her real job description. And as she cannot remember her name, I call her Anna. She’s okay with it.” Lucien did not waste much time to detail all information before Vicky. Brianna may arrive any moment, so he wanted to make use of the time to let Vicky know a little about their arrangements.
“She seemed to be good at what she does, being a personal bodyguard. So until she remembers everything, we will keep it this way. I hope you understand. You can treat her as my secretary. She knows the deal,” added Lucien.
Vicky Reed was all ears the whole time Lucien was telling her everything she needed to know. And as long as it doesn’t bother her duties, there is no problem with Vicky about the arrangement her Boss just discussed with her.
“I understand, Sir,” Vicky answered with a nod.
Just then, a knock was heard from the door.
“You can go back to your table, thanks, Vicky,” Lucien dismissed Vicky, but his words were still said with politeness.
“Thank you, Sir,” Vicky courteously replied in return. Then she opened the door. Brianna was holding a tray with a steaming hot black coffee. Vicky smiled at Brianna and went her way.
“Boss, your coffee,” Brianna announced as she walked to Lucien’s table with a tray in her hands.
“Please put it here,” he tapped an empty space on his table with the tip of his pen before looking up at her. Lucien was satisfied to see a cup of steaming hot black coffee. He just hopes it tastes the way he likes it as it looks perfect in his eyes. “And if you have the list of what you need, you can give them to me now, so I can call for someone to bring it over or ask Tatum to get them for you,” Lucien kept his eyes on his paperwork as he spoke knowing Brianna was almost by his side.
“I don’t really remember what I like, so how about you ask Tatum to bring whatever is easy to carry but reliable to defend our safety?” Brianna stood straight a yard distance from him as soon as she put the cup of coffee down on his table. Her moves were too professional. The actions, the speech, the distance, and almost everything that Lucien can notice, screams a Pro identity in her.
He took a sip of his coffee, and he couldn’t help his lips from cracking in a satisfied smile when his taste approved of her talent even in making coffee. He put the cup down and nodded his head. In approval for the coffee taste and in approval for her request to just send whatever is light and reliable to carry for protection. Lucien pulled his phone out of his breast pocket and made a call.
“Anna needs weapons. She asks for anything light and reliable to carry around,” Lucien gazed at Brianna as he spoke on the phone to see if she had anything she wanted to add. “Anything available of the kinds, let her choose what she wants to have and get rid of the rest later, or we can keep them in the office for emergencies.”
“Okay, be back soon. She wants them as soon as possible,” added Lucien before ending the call.
In the Old Michaelson’s basement…
“Tatum, what happened today?” Leandro Michaelson came all the way down to the basement when he heard Tatum had arrived.
“Sir, we were trapped in a one-lane alley on the way to the office from the villa,” Tatum clearly stated. He was not guilty about anything, so he could answer the old Michaelson with dignity. “I am here to check the car for any tracker and to get some weapons,” he stated.
“What weapons?” Leandro was surprised to hear Tatum’s statements.
“The Boss has hired a personal bodyguard. She is asking for weapons to arm herself to be able to protect the Young Master Lucien. Something light and reliable,” Tatum scratched his head as he let his orders known to the old Michaelson.
“She?” Asked Leandro with a shriek. “Lucien hired a lady bodyguard?” he felt outraged. He offered a lot of capable, top-in-the-field men to be Lucien’s bodyguard, but he was rejected, again and again, now he just found out, Lucien hired a woman to protect his life?!
Tatum knew why the old Michaelson was reacting the way he was right now, he knew Lucien had turned a lot of suggestions of the Grandpa to send his grandson a bodyguard, all only the best in what they do, but he never had the chance. Not even once had Lucien agreed. Leandro Michaelson is not a very fan of women in the field of men’s jobs. He despised the fact that the one doing the job to protect his grandson was a woman.
“Well, she is pretty good. She saved the Boss already twice, yesterday and today,” Tatum felt the need to tell the truth of how he feels. His boldness may anger the old Michaelson, but he could swear he was just stating a fact.
“Are you sure?” Leandro calmed when he heard Tatum praising the woman. Tatum is also among the elite in the world of army. And Leandro is convinced that if Tatum says someone is good, no gender is required. It is really good. Because the man Leandro had chosen to be his only grandson, Lucien Michaelson's, personal driver/bodyguard had gone through the toughest training one could ever go through in the field of their professions.
“Yeah, she can even make the Boss follow her every command when in chaos. She is cool and never shows any panic,” Tatum spoke as he continued his work, checking the whole car for anything suspicious, trackers and everything about the vehicle.
“Who is she?” Asked Leandro.
“I am very sorry to say I do not have the answer to that,” Tatum answered with a low grunt as he pushed on the jack to lift the car.
