42. Fate Playing Its Part

"It's a shame I didn't get to meet her today," Leandro Michaelson grunted in disappointment as he waited for Lucien to get into his study room.
The old Michaelson was looking so much forward to meeting Anna. But when he saw how persistent she was to leave and hunt those that had been chasing them ever since this morning, seeing how she even pointed a gun and made a warning shot to Tatum Elliot, the Mafia King was convinced this girl was not someone to be taken lightly. Leandro should be scared, noticing she is too capable despite her gender, despite her petite, very feminine physique and beauty. But seeing and realizing that she was after the jackasses who wanted to harm his grandson, he could not oppose. As a matter of fact, he did not want to disagree. He even refused to be against the idea. Her victory or failure will benefit his grandson, one way or another. Besides, he did not give the order. She was the one dead set on going after the enemy. He could make it as a clear and acceptable excuse to justify his decisions.
He quickly ordered for his private army to be in position. Guard the whole mansion and send a troop to assist Anna with Tatum taking the lead.
Leandro was impressed with how his chosen personal bodyguard for Lucien, Tatum Elliot, tried to insist on assisting Anna even as a driver. Maybe Tatum did not expect Anna to be as fierce as how they all got to witness, but he was clearly trying to stand to his duty in protecting his immediate boss. And like Anna, Tatum must have also thought that eliminating their enemy would be the best solution to put an end to this situation.
Leandro was not too shaken by what happened, even with the captive ending up blowing his own body in his basement. He does not even worry authorities would come to check. His house is not in a crowded area with neighbors nearby. Enzo will know who to call for professional cleaners, and everything will be back to the way they were arranged before. The man's bomb was not highly explosive. It was just enough to make sure he did not survive the blast. That was the aim with how small is the explosive he could carry efficiently and securely concealed.
"Grandpa, why would you let my driver go into a mission?" Lucien asked as soon as he arrived at his grandfather's study room.
"Maybe it's time you know that Tatum Elliot is a private soldier in the US army. Also known as GI. He retired in his duties early to be your personal driver and bodyguard," Leandro patiently explained.
Lucien felt limp. He felt like he had been living in the dark, not knowing well how the people around him are so capable of anything and almost everything.
"What else do I have to know?" Lucien asked defeatedly.
"You just live life the way you want to. Let me worry about everything," Leandro lovingly answered. "But I really wish to see your secretary and meet her in person. She is very impressive, I can see," he added.
Lucien felt his rage subside hearing his grandpa's compliments about Anna. He couldn't help smiling subtly. But when he remembered she went hunting a very dangerous group of mercenaries, his fears for her safety flared up.
"Grandpa, we have to make sure she returns safely. She had saved me so many times already. I haven't been able to return any of them to her yet. She has to stay alive. I wanna keep her by my side if that would be possible," Lucien desperately stated.
"The best of our men has divided themselves into keeping this place safe and making sure she is well assisted in her mission," answered the old Michaelson to his very worried grandson, Lucien.

Unknown to all, even to Brianna or Leandro, fate must have played its part not to make Leandro Michaelson and Brianna Peters meet this time. Brianna was unaware of her actions and emotions for now, but it might have changed once she saw Leandro Michaelson, her mortal enemy by heart. A person she hated with an intense passion ever since she could remember. He is the reason Brianna as tough as how she is now. Her temporary loss of memory was triggered by her self-blame for saving the beloved grandson of her enemy from actual death. Once she realizes she could execute her revenge, her memory might just return without warning and kill Leandro even in front of Lucien. Her subconscious mind might recognize the person she wanted to pay for her parents' untimely death.
But as if fate has plans on its own, things have turned the way they are now. Brianna is putting her life in danger just to make sure her client is safe. Although another reason for her move is for her own safety as she doesn't like the feeling of being chased like a mouse, she would rather hunt them back to ensure her safety as well as her client's. In such a way, she will be able to stay alive longer until she meets her life goals, which for now seemed blurred and uncertain as she could not remember anything more than being hired as a personal bodyguard.

"If you want to be sure to know what is going on in their mission, you can join me at the control room," Leandro informed Lucien as he was about to walk into a concealed room on the sidewall of his study.
Lucien did not dally to walk behind his grandpa as he was wary about Anna.
Tatum and the rest of their men were in their military gear with earpieces and installed cameras in their body armor. They can easily connect and see what the situation is in front of their men while they stand behind the secured wall of his home in front of a few screen monitors.
"Where is she?" asked Lucien as soon as they arrived at the control room, but Brianna was nowhere to be seen on any of the screens.
Leandro gave Enzo a meaningful glance. The assistant got his master's silent order and walked over to the table on the side. Enzo picked an earpiece and handed it to Leandro.
"Here, you talk to Tatum Elliot yourself," Leandro gave the earpiece to Lucien.
The young Michaelson did not dawdle to receive the gadget his grandpa was handing out to him. He hurriedly applied it to his ear and got connected with his driver, who turned out to be his personal bodyguard, too.
"Tatum, where is Anna?" Lucien asked curtly.
"Boss, she is two cars ahead of us."
"Get closer. I want to have a clear vision of her," Lucien demanded.
"Sir, we cannot do that," Tatum politely declined.
Lucien was outraged by Tatum's response.
"And why is that?!"
"She clearly told us not to get too close," still polite, Tatum replied. "We might lose the chance to follow her if she deliberately blocks us if we irritate her."
Lucien ground his teeth in annoyance, but he was also aware Tatum's words were right. He cannot be too willful and annoy Anna. It will not result in anything good on his part. He had known her enough in a few days that they had been together side by side, that she is not someone to tolerate anything that rubs her patience.
