47. Digging the Past

Jack did not let Brianna out of his virtual sight. He followed every camera that he could hack into to keep track of her. He needed to know where she was going and where she was staying these days. He needs to get in touch with her to keep her safe from Charles Anderson's every possible attack. Jack cannot directly go against his father, but he can always find a way to assist Brianna in everything she does as long as they have a way to communicate.
Jack was nervous when he saw Brianna was driving in the direction that, according to the geographical map in his system, it says that she is heading to Leandro Michaelson's mansions. It was a path with a vast empty land from the gates. They will have enough time to identify whoever is coming through their surveillance cameras along the way. She would never have any chance of walking into the Lion's lair if she used the main entrance, although it was already dark in the evening, to get in if she was planning to attack.
"B, what in the world are you doing," Jack helplessly asked loudly as he watched her get into the gates of the Mansion she was heading to. "Please talk to me," he was almost begging when he saw her face looking straight to a camera as the guard had to confirm who was trying to get into the Michaelson's property. But to his surprise, that was the last view he got on her. All cameras got blocked, and Jack had to hack into them, cracking codes after codes, but he was having a hard time getting in.
"What?! Why can't I access their cameras? That is not possible, unless..." Jack thought for a while. "Does the Michaelson has their own IT team?" Jack frowned. That is the only possible reason for Jack not to penetrate their firewalls with his advanced knowledge and technology. He tried again and again, not giving up since B was in their territory. Jack wanted to have a vision of what was going on with his little sister. He will send help of whatever kind or way, he could call the police for false alarm just to create a diversion or anything, but first and foremost, he needed to know what was going on with Brianna. But no matter how Jack tried, he could never break-in. He decided to check what connections Brianna Peter's family and the Michaelson's could have ever had for a dispute way back before for the Mafia King to order for the Peters to be erased in the face of the planet. Jack had never had to check about anything because Charles Anderson fed them with every information they needed to know. Now, he cannot count on asking his monstrous father anything useful to help B as Charles considered her rogue.
"Brianna was just five when it all happened. She is twenty-four now, that means it happened nineteen years ago," Jack was speaking like someone was around him to hear whatever he was talking about.
He searched for cases according to the information that he had. He searched for both family names to be in one case, but Jack did not find any. He searched for what happened to the Peters'. He found an article that Brianna's father, Leith Peters, was a well-decorated marine officer. The latter retired early from his position to establish his own Private Investigator business after settling down with his wife, Elizabeth Patel, a forensic psychologist scientist.
He did not find anything to connect the Michaelson's with the Peters in any case.
Jack sighed deeply. He needed to do everything correctly and accurately. He is feeling like he is walking in the dark. He doesn't know what Brianna is trying to do. He doesn't know why Charles would decisively order his men to shoot Brianna down. He doesn't know the exact story between the Michaelson's and the Peters. He wanted to break his head and check what was wrong with him, not finding answers that he crucially needed right now!
He needs to do something. He checked on the cameras where Brianna shot Charles. He would need medical assistance, so he won't make it to give orders right now. Jack has to talk to the team leader of the mercenaries to create an ally with them. They have the best connections as Jack would always assist them when it comes to virtual navigations on their missions, except this one lately. Jack became too preoccupied looking for Brianna ever since she had that accident, and she was nowhere for Jack to find.
The team needed Jack, but he rarely complied with their requests until that time when they thought they had Lucien cornered at a one-way alley in the morning. Jack was right in front of the LM building waiting for Brianna to arrive at work when Charles asked him to assist their men. Jack used his laptop to watch their men on their tracks through the surrounding CCTV cameras to warn them where they should and should not go. Without knowing that Brianna was the one driving the car their men were chasing, Jack assisted them and told them to retreat and take another route when Jack saw a group of an army about to ambush their men at the block ahead. They were able to make a quick U-turn to avoid the ambush that they weren't able to attack again until lunchtime. An attack Jack did not know as he did not monitor their men's movements. He was busy watching the LM building front for Brianna and Lucien to arrive back from their lunch. But instead of that happening, Jack received a call from Charles asking him what Brianna was doing and why she was protecting Lucien. That was when Jack hurriedly went back home to check all possibilities of finding Brianna. He wanted to warn her. But just like everyone in the gym earlier, Jack was confused why Brianna was nonchalant with what Charles said to their men. It was as if she wasn't aware that she was the one being referred to. She was the one Charles was giving a direct order to take down if she ever stood in their way again.
She was acting differently. She looked like B, she moved like B, but she wasn't reacting like B!
"I need to know what is wrong with her, if there is any," Jack clenched his jaw, and his fists tightened. "But how do I do that? She doesn't seem to recognize me either, or am I wrong to think so? Maybe she is just trying to deal with things on her own?" Jack leaned on his swivel chair limply. "No, no, something doesn't add up," Jack shook his head.
He stood from his seat after checking on the surveillance camera that Charles was still on an improvised operating table while the hired doctor was taking out the bullet. Jack wasn't sure where Charles was shot but how he wished Brianna had finished him already. He would have been more happy, taking out an evil man like Charles Anderson from this world. He is not human, as for Jack's opinion.
