Chapter 115
DAN was looking at his wife’s happy face as she was smiling in her sleep. Caroline was leaning against his chest as her blonde mane was spreading across her pillow. She snuggled closer as Dan was shifting in his position. That earned a smile on his lips.
Dan never looked close enough at his wife like he did right now, the dusk was fast approaching as they just spent their night together as husband and wife. He would never think that the woman who slapped him in the face when he first kissed her in the garden would be the one that seduced him last night.
And Caroline said she loved him as well. That should say something, right?
Dan was looking at the dark lashes that were fluttering against the pale complexion of his wife’s cheeks before he was looking at the straight nose. Then, he dipped lower, looking at the swollen lips that have known every inch of his body last night.
And his lips that have known all of her plains in return.
Danial smiled, remembering their lovemaking session as Caroline was eager to please him. She has been a virgin and never been with a man before that made Danial proud and stroke his demon to the maximum pride.
I am the first and the last man that will be touching her. No one will ever know her body as I do, Dan mused before Caroline was moaning in her sleep. Her eyes were fluttering for a moment before she opened them and Danial was happy to know that he will be looking into the grey orbs first thing in the morning for the rest of his life.
How can he be so lucky like this?
“Good morning,” he said hoarsely, mostly because he hasn’t been drinking water after last night and this morning. Caroline stretched beside him, dropping the duvet that was covering her nakedness and it dropped to her waist before she was snuggling against his skin.
She was warm and he loved it when she snuggled against him.
“So, what do you think of last night?” Caroline asked him that made him paused his hands from caressing her skin before he turned to look at her. Danial blinked his eyes before he furrowed his eyebrows at her.
“What do you mean?” he asked as Caroline prompted her on her elbow as she was looking at him. Her breasts were in full view before she was tracing her fingers on his chest.
“Well, I know that you might have a mistress in the past before me, sleeping with a woman that has more experience than me in the art of seduction. I hope I pleased you last night with me being a virgin and all,” Caroline said timidly before Danial was blinking his eyes at her.
Is that what was worrying her all this time?
Danial turned to look at his wife. She was being ridiculous with the question that she asked him in the morning after the night that was classified as the best night of his life. Maybe even in his existence.
But something about him had a mistress was unsettling.
“Where do you learn that I have a mistress? Or heard about it at all?” Danial asked his wife before Caroline was staring at him. She rolled her eyes and Danial has to control his face to make sure that she would not catch him trying not to laugh at her unladylike gesture.
That’s what drew him to Lady Caroline Hurst, oops, Cutler in the first place.
“Well, your friends told me that you were the biggest—“
Danial sighed before he was pinching his nose bridge. Of course, those guys that he considered his friends from the Higher Court would be making up rumors about him. Damn these people. I will kill them with my bare hands, Danial mused before he took a deep breath.
“Please don’t tell me it was marquis of Kain who told you about this,” Danial said before Caroline nodded at him.
I will kill Ian in the meeting next time I saw him, he thought before Dan was looking at his wife. He took her hand before kissed her knuckles.
“My love, those were made up by him. You cannot trust anything that was being told by any of my friends from the Higher Court. They’re not…in their right mind when they spoke of me,” Danial said as he was looking at his wife. Caroline was staring at him with her grey orbs that were shining under the dusk’s dim light.
“Hmm,” she said before she was looking down at his body before she smirked. “Maybe just one thing to be true about the rumor then,” she said as her eyes were covered with mischief. Danial shook his head as he breathed out.
“One night with me and my wife were a wanton,” he said before he pinned Caroline to the mattress on her back. She laughed and it was the first laughter that ever came from her when she married him. Danial froze as he was looking at her. Caroline arched her eyebrow.
“What?”
“I like your laughter. It’s…soothing me,” and my demons, but Danial kept that last bit to himself before Caroline was kissing him on the lips, getting lost in another wave of lust and desire that was stirring between them in the early dusk of the first day of their marriage life.
CAROLINE was humming when she was alone in the library, the only place that she wanted to spend her time when Danial was away from their home. He has some business in Royal Molftus and it has been a week since their marriage. It has been spectacular until now.
Caroline was reading a book that belonged to her husband. The title was Exile by a group of people that somehow they have the ‘-son’ in their last night. And there were like five of them. Caroline was intrigued because it was nothing like she ever read before.
It told the story of how being in exile was not that bad after all. Maybe it will be a good thing for some of the people as Caroline was reading their history. It was related to the island as much as she wanted to deny it.
They called themselves warlocks.
I never knew there were warlocks among us on the island, Caroline mused but then she read the part where the warlocks have moved out of the island, leaving only a part of them that was hiding among the citizens of Niapachad Island. She wondered if she ever met them, not knowing that she was passing through a warlock in the night market.
Caroline sighed before she closed the book as she was stretching. It has been two hours since she was sitting there, doing nothing of sort when she thought that she could handle the loneliness when her husband was not around.
She couldn’t.
Caroline was looking at the fire crackled in the fireplace before an idea was struck to her head. Danial did want to bring her to the capital since he will be gone for two days and the carriage ride to go to the capital was taking up to two days as well. So, in total, she would be alone for 6 days in the mansion, alone without her husband.
With the decision in mind, she rang for her butler before she was standing from the divan that she was sitting on. The skirts rustled over her body before the old butler was coming into the library.
“You rang, my lady?” he asked before Caroline was smiling at him.
“Prepare my horse. I will be visiting my parents,” she said as the butler was looking at her with an expression that she knows she was not allowed to leave the house.
“I wish I could, my lady, but master told me to—“
“Are you telling me that my husband was refusing my request to meet my parents? Have you seen him around today?” Caroline asked the butler as she was arching her eyebrow. If Danial wanted to play the hard way, so can she.
“No, my lady, but—“
“Exactly. My husband is not here so I am in charge. If I ask you to get my horse ready to meet my parents, then you made it happen. Is that clear enough?” she said as she was using the authoritative voice that she would usually order around her parents’ house when they were away with their voyage.
And it has been paying off for all those years.
The old butler nodded at Caroline that she was smiling at him. Then, she was moving to get out of the room before she was giddy to make sure that no one knows where she might be going actually.
It was supposed to be a surprise after all.
FELIX Marshall, Baron of Fell, was walking around in the garden that was in the Stone Tower where he finally has the free time to do so. It has been a long time since he was strolling down leisurely, surrounded by flowers that were blossoming happily around them.
Marsh might be a spy and an assassin in the service of the queen of Niapachad Island, but he also from North Msallste. That place should be a clue enough for anyone to know that he was raised to appreciate the arts and beauty in everyday life.
Since his parents died in that opera’s fire when he was 16 years old, just a year younger than his cousin, Danial Cutler, who was a Viscount in the south, he took the region under the name of Baron of Fell.
He also has a skill set that was useful for him to get out of the region when the queen asked him to. And he never hesitates to serve his queen, ever.
“You’re late,” the feminine voice was greeting him as Marsh turned to look at the person that was greeting him.
“And good to see you too after all this time,” Marsh said before he was stepping closer to the young queen of Niapachad Island, Arabella Dragomir, as she was hugging Marsh as a younger sister would. Her husband, Aiden was nodding at him when they shook hands.
“About time for you to arrive at the party. I thought you would have died or something in the field trip that you took recently. Where was it again?”
“The Old Wickham forest,” Marsh said as the prince consort was nodding at him.
“So, since you’re here. I hope everything went well with the ambassadors of the other tribe?” Arabella asked as she was arching her eyebrows at Marsh. He nodded before she smiled.
“Excellent. Now we can put that behind us and we can focus on the important matter here,” the young queen said as Marsh was arching his eyebrow at the royal couple.
Aiden just shook his head before his wife was pulling him inside the Stone Tower to discuss this ‘important’ matter. Marsh has a feeling that he would not like this.
He did not like this at all.
