Chapter 36
NIKLAUS did not see any harm that could come from having this visit out of the way for they would stop in North Msallste to get some souvenirs for their household as well.
"Very well. It would be rude not to so we will be making a pit stop at your sister's household then," Niklaus said as Becca was smiling at him. It's worth the wait that he had been waiting for the entire time if it would lead him back to Becca.
"Thank you, my love," she said as she leaned to kiss him. Niklaus allowed her to.
"My pleasure. Now, shall we get going?" he asked before he put her hand on the crook of his elbow and moved to the front door the butler opened and they walked toward the carriage that held the Dragomir's crest, a gold dragon.
"We will be returning," Niklaus said as the butler bowed to him.
"We will be waiting for you, milord," the old man said as Niklaus nodded as he helped Becca to get inside the carriage before he followed. The footman closed the door of the carriage before climbing into the back of the carriage.
Niklaus told the driver of their new destination before tapping the rooftop as the driver was whipping the horses to move. They neighed before the hooves hit the cobblestones as Becca was looking at the cottage that disappeared from her sight and wondering when she would be here again to have her time with her husband alone without any social norms that she needed to follow.
The clack of the hooves across the cobblestones was taking their attention of Becca as she looked up from her reading as Niklaus was reading the paper that was known as The Island, which was the same paper that Becca used to see whenever her father would read during their breakfast.
It was a common thing to do when the aristocrats were trying to get up to date with the things that were happening around the island.
Not that those papers were the only source of information that they got for their business and court meetings.
Becca remembered that there was something inside the newspaper that was supposed to be a column that was known by the older ladies of society, who were the Gossipers, who were known as Gossipers' tabloids.
She did not understand what the fascination of these columns for Becca never thought that she would be interested in reading them before but after being married to the Duke of Belikov, it was one of the sources that kept Becca entertained as well as informed about her husband's scandals, should Becca needed to know anything about it.
"Ah! We're here," Niklaus said as he closed the newspaper before Becca was marking her reading of the tome titled The Niapachad Island; in the perspective of The Origins.
She turned to smile at her husband before she looked outside the carriage as they were streaming down the streets of North Msasllste, the cultured town of Niapachad Island.
"I do sure hope that Rosetta is home or it would be a wasted detour," Becca said before Niklaus was arching his eyebrow at her.
"I'm sure that it was not a wasted journey if you're not here to visit your sister, my love. For instance, I have some things that I would love to get in this town as well," Niklaus said as Becca was arching her eyebrow at him. He laughed.
"I would love to get some souvenirs for our staff and perhaps to get something for your parents as well," he said before Becca blushed.
She did not think about her parents at all during their wedding trip for Becca was so focused on getting alone with Niklaus and controlling her new urges about taking the blood through the veins of a living human, especially her maid. It was one of the reasons why Becca asked Niklaus to arrange their wedding trip.
"What kind of daughter am I for not remembering to get something for my parents?" she said as she was putting her hands to her cheeks. Niklaus chuckled softly.
"I'm sure you have something more important to think about, my love," he said as he was staring at the choker that she wore to hide the pinprick of his claim against her body, mind, and soul. Becca blushed again for she felt the pinpricks respond to the intense stare of her husband.
"Stop it, you might cause something while we're here if you keep staring at me like that, my love," she said before she cleared her throat. Niklaus smirked at her before the footman dropped from his position to open the door.
Niklaus got off the carriage first before he was helping Becca to get out of the carriage. He offered her his hand and his wife took it before she gripped her skirts as she was getting off.
"Well, this looks nothing like the capital," Becca said as she looked at the town square that was known as Msallste Square. People were buzzing around, walking toward their destinations. Some business-looking men were talking with each other as they were laughing and walking to their final destinations.
Some carriages were holding some of the crests that Becca ought to know but forgot as well as some hackneys that were carrying their passengers to their homes.
Some governesses who were in charge of their students, as well as employer's children, were tugging and running around the square to get to their favorite shops or vendors.
These were nothing like what it would be like in Royal Molftus.
"Welcome to North Msallste," Niklaus said as he put his hand on her small back before he nodded at the driver to find any good stables to water and feed the horses for their travel back to the capital.
"Shall we go explore, my love?" Niklaus said as Becca put her hand in the crook of his elbow as Niklaus guided her through Msallste Square like an expert as if he had been living there for the rest of his life.
Becca should be wary of that but she knew that as a lord in the Higher Court, Niklaus would travel around the island to get some stuff done, unlike her who was confined to her parents' estate as she watched her sisters getting married as well as traveled away from the capitol.
Becca hoped Niklaus would show her his world someday and perhaps that day started today.
