Chapter 69
AFTER the most erotic intercourse that Ian had with her last night, he was in his happy place as he was dreaming it, again and again, feeling her soft skin and wicked lips that brought Ian to his knees.
But of course, when he was reaching out for the real person that slept next to him to do those actions again, he found out that Emily was not beside him in their makeshift bed.
Ian opened his eyes slowly, rubbing them with his palms as he was looking around the makeshift tent, as he did not see his wife anywhere.
“Emily? Where are you, my love?” he asked, pushing the covers away as Ian pulled on his breeches. He was looking at his wife’s side, noticing that she had been out of their warm bed for quite some time now, but Ian could not think of a place where Emily would be out and about before dawn when there was nothing else to do except to cuddle him on their wedding trip.
Then, he heard them. Those beautiful, haunting songs were seeking revenge for the lost love of a maiden and a sailor in this very lake.
“Damnation!” he cursed before Ian was pulling his shirt over his head, sliding on his boots as he took the arrows and the bow before leaving the safety of their warm makeshift tent as Ian was searching for his wife.
He flipped the tent and saw that Emily, in her naked state, was walking toward the lake. Ian also saw colorful scaly women who were waiting for his wife, as the red woman was offering her hand, smiling wickedly.
“No,” he whispered as Ian was running toward the edge of the lake, wanting to catch those wretched sirens and tell them that they were messed with the wrong lord of the Higher Court.
Ian hooked his arrows into his bow as he was running to save his wife in time. He also hoped that his voice would break whatever enchantment that had been put upon Emily would be broken.
“Get away from my wife, you wretched sirens,” he shouted as Ian was shooting those arrows that he’d been saving to kill some of the wild animals in Ngis Forest.
Looks like I would be using those arrows, after all, Ian thought as he was releasing those arrows, wanting to warn the sirens to get away from his wife. Those haunting creatures swam away when they saw Ian running toward the lake. The red woman was watching closely as Emily turned to look at him, a surprised expression in her eyes.
“Emily, dear Gods, Emily!” Ian shouted as he reached his wife, hugging her before placing her behind him as a lawyer of protection when the red-scaly woman was still on the edge of the lake. She looked at Ian curiously before she opened her mouth and sang the most sorrowful song Ian ever heard.
“There was once a lad that loved a woman. Their journey ended in a moment, because of the envy of another man. That cannot be happy if they were never meant,” the red siren sang, but Ian was looking at her. She smiled before she swam away from the edge but without giving Ian a riddle to ponder upon.
“You love her and are afraid to lose her, but does she love you with all her heart? After all, she was lured by our song of promise from Down Under,” the siren spoke in an ancient language that every lord on the Higher Court had to learn. So, Ian understood but Emily was excluded from their conversation.
“Ian? Are you alright? You look pale,” Emily said as she touched his cheek. The red siren went away as she sank under the surface of the lake as if she was never there. Ian turned to look at his wife as Emily’s big brown eyes were staring at him. Then, he dropped the bow that he was holding before hugging Emily as tightly as he could without crushing her.
“I am so glad that you are alright, my love. Thanks to Gods,” he whispered, kissing her hair as her lily scent filled his nostrils. His inner Demon was satisfied that his mate was safe and sound.
“You’re alright. You’re safe, my love. Oh my Gods,” Ian prayed to the higher power that he never thought that he, as a Vampyre, would look upon as he had almost the love of his life.
But the riddle that the red siren gave him still lingered in his mind as they went back to their makeshift tent. Ian pulled his shirt to cover her naked skin as he carried her in bridal style.
“Here, you will catch a cold if you stay naked. Not that I was complaining,” Ian turned to look at her face as Emily chuckled softly, “but I think it’s enough for us to skinny dip in the water for now,” he said before flapping the tent open and going inside, carrying Emily in tow with him.
EMILY was shivering as she was sitting in front of the fire that Ian made for her. She was also very hungry as she was staring at the roasted meat that Ian was preparing for their breakfast.
She did not know how she was walking around naked near the edge of the lake but it would seem that she was and Ian knew, because of the danger that she would be cold and probably have hypothermia if she jumped into the lake. Emily shivered even more when she thought of what would have been if Ian had not been there to save her.
“Here you go, Emmy,” her husband said as he was handing her a plate of roasted meat hot from the spit. Emily smiled at Ian as she took it and thanked him. Ian smiled as he nodded when Emily was eating wholeheartedly the meat that they packed.
“I think we should cut our trip short in the wilds, my love,” he started, as Emily was looking at Ian. Her husband was staring into the fire before she put the plate down and looked at his handsome face.
It must have been because of last night, she thought before clearing her throat. She waited for her husband to speak.
“From the insight of the current event last night, I cannot, for the love of my life, sleep in the wilds again, Emmy,” Ian looked at her as his eyes were worrying over the fact that she almost died at the hand of another creature that lurked in the isle of Niapachad Island.
Ian sighed, rubbing his mouth with his hand before getting up and pacing back and forth in front of her. Emily awaited her husband’s speech.
“And to think that I promised you that I would care for you, help you to fight for yourself when I cannot even protect you from the lure of the Sirens’ Songs,” Ian kneeled in front of her as he took her hands. Emily looked into his amber eyes. He shook his head, kissing her knuckles.
“I cannot fail you anymore, my love. I cannot because I have promised you that—”
Emily shut her husband’s long speech as she kissed him on the lips, taking all the words from his lips. Ian grunted before he growled as he was pulling Emily on top of him as he was lying on the ground.
Emily moaned in the kiss before she broke as she was staring into her husband’s eyes. She touched his lower lips with her thumb.
“You never failed me, Ian. You made me feel alive and welcome and wanted for who I am. I might not be the first choice of other lords’ wives, but I am yours to my soul. And you only think of protecting me, which really, shows me how much you love me for who I am. And I am grateful for that,” she said as she closed her eyes, leaning her forehead against his. Then, she smiled.
“You are the wicked lord that saved me for the rest of my life and let me into your double life with the Higher Court,” she whispered before Emily opened her eyes and stared at her husband’s handsome face.
“But will it be enough? Will it be enough for you to love me just because I let you into my life at Higher Court? Have you ever heard of the legend of the Sirens’ Songs that lured the sorrow and grievance as well as the insecure hearts of the islanders?” Ian asked as Emily was staring at him.
Her heart gave a jerk as she knew what her husband was asking. He was asking if Emily loved him enough without those conditions and if her feelings were genuine for him alone. Emily smirked.
“What do you think, my lord? Am I not showing my love enough by giving you all of me? Body and soul?” she whispered as she was rubbing their noses together. Ian was staring at her. Then, he leaned forward.
“Say it. Say that you want me for the rest of your eternal life with me, Emmy,” he said huskily as his hands were tracing her thighs. Her core tingled as Emily was rubbing her wet core against his eager cock underneath his breeches.
“I want you, my love,” she moaned before she was removing her lacing as her bodice became undone.
“I want you for all eternity and I love you for who you are to me, Ian. No matter what others say,” she whispered before closing their gap as Ian was rubbing his cock against her core.
Emily was kissing his neck as Ian was tracing his tongue on the slope of her breasts. Then, his wife tilted her head back, angling for more access as Ian was gracing his canine against her neck.
“You’re mine for eternity, Emmy. Never doubt that, my love,” he said before puncturing his canine against his claim. His bride. His wife. His mate for life.
Emily gasped before she was gripping his hair with her hands. She was moving her hips, eager to please her husband as she was gasping for air.
“Yes, I am all yours. All yours for the eternity of my life, my lord, my husband, my love,” she confessed as Ian was sucking her blood into his mouth, tasting her essence as his cock jerked.
Then, Emily was undoing the flapper of his breeches and sunk herself onto his cock. They both moaned before Ian was licking the wound that he made on his wife’s beautiful neck. Emily was smiling as she was moving up and down his length, her core tightened against his girth.
“You’re mine, Ian. Forever,” Emily said as she was tracing her tongue on his lips.
“Always. I love you,” she said before kissing him to her heart’s content. She knew that the red-scaly woman was getting to Ian, thinking that she did not love him because their marriage was upon her tainted reputation that was being discovered by the young Queen Arabella.
But Emily had known that with all the kindness and grace that Ian had shown to her, Emily had loved him more than anything in the world and to think that he was her family now when her brother did not want to meet her.
Ian was all she had left and Emily would protect those who she considered family, no matter what she must do to keep them safe and sound.
