Chapter 57

EMILY was looking at the dim townhouse of her husband when the footman was opening the door as she stepped down after gathering her skirts. The footman helped her before she thanked him.
“Move my purchases to the library. I will be down there shortly,” Emily instructed the footman as he was nodding at her.
“Yes, milady,”
Emily moved to the entrance before the butler was greeting her. She smiled as the butler was looking a bit more nervous than usual. Emily’s heart skipped a beat.
Was Ian really in trouble? She mused before the butler was bowing at her.
“Milady, the master was in the bedchamber and he wishes to see you,” the butler said as Emily nodded. Emily removed her bonnet before she stepped into the parlor as she was making her way to the second floor of the townhouse. Emily was smiling before she was walking down the long hallway of her husband’s family portrait. Emily loved to see the past marchionesses of Kain. She hoped one day that someone would adore her as well.
Emily arrived at the master bedchamber as she heard some commotion inside the room. She rushed forward, opening the huge oak doors before her eyes were greeted with darkness. No gaslights or candles were lit up in their bedchamber.
What is Ian doing in the dark? She mused before the door closed behind her and she felt the body heat behind her.
“I told him not to let you in but it seems that you are stubborn as a mule, wife,” the deep voice that belonged to her husband was caressing her left ear as Emily was glancing over her shoulder.
Ian was standing behind her and was breathing hard before he turned her and pushed her against the wall. Then, he kicked the doors closed so that they were standing against each other in the darkness.
Emily gasped before she was trying to adjust her eyes in the dim light to see her husband. Ian was nuzzling her neck as she was taking in his intoxicating scent. It was alluring and Emily was sighing at the smell.
“Don’t do that. Don’t do it unless you want to get hurt,” Ian mumbled before Emily was looking at her husband. She reached out before Ian was releasing her and she was standing there, against the wall as her eyes adjusted to the surroundings.
Ian was not wearing his shirt as his broad shoulders were given Emily’s sight. She licked her lower lips before Ian was glancing at her over his shoulder.
“You are such a tease. Get out before I do something that will hurt you, Emily,” he said with the restraint that Emily cannot put on. She had never seen this side of him before.
“Ian,” she reached out to her husband before Ian moved away from her in the blink of an eye. Emily blinked before she saw that Ian was at the other end of the room.
“Go, and never return,” Ian said as Emily was scoffing at him. She crossed her arms over her chest as she was glaring at him.
“I was told that you’re injured and I have to rush home to see if you’re okay. And this is all I get after I show that I care for you? Well, good day then if you don’t need me anymore,” Emily said as she was picking up her skirts before she was moving to the door.
In the blink of an eye again, she was being held by Ian against the wall as Emily gasped to look at her handsome husband. He was breathing hard as Emily was looking at his eyes. There were no familiar amber orbs that she wanted to stare at all night long.
Instead, it was endless dark pools of black obsidian staring at her.
“Did you not understand that I am trying to protect you?!” Ian hissed at her as Emily was looking at her husband. She was confused, as she did not understand what he was talking about.
“I’m sorry, I don’t get what you are saying, Ian. Why are you talking in riddles?” Emily said as Ian was cursing under his breath.
“Damnation, this is why I hate to explain to a woman,” he mumbled before Emily was snapping her head at her husband.
“Excuse me, what did you say?” She asked again, as she wanted to make sure that Ian did not just say that. He would not dare!
“I said that sometimes I hate that you’re a thickhead,” Ian said before Emily felt the anger inside her. She was wiggling out of his hold before Ian released her.
“Have I a thick head? Oh, okay then. I see that I am not needed here anymore,” she said before Ian was looking at her. Emily harrumphed before Ian stopped her again as she was gasping. Ian was holding her arms as she turned to look at his handsome face again.
“Let me go, you oaf,” she hissed at her husband.
“I am not done with you,” Ian said as he was gripping her arms. Emily flinched as it was tighter than he would usually hold her. She was sure that it would leave some bruises later.
“Ian, that hurts,” Emily said as she was trying to get away from him. Right now, she was freaking out that Ian might intend to hurt her as he said earlier.
“See what I mean? I cannot control it, Emily. If you’re here, I will hurt you,” Ian said, as she was looking at Ian before he released his hold, as Ian backed away from Emily. He turned around as he was moving to the bed but before he could make it, he collapsed.
“Ian!” Emily shouted as she went to lap his head onto her lap. Ian was coughing badly before Emily did not know what to do.
“Ian? What happened? Ian, talk to me, my love,” Emily said as she was caressing his face. Ian was closing his eyes before she was leaning closer to him.
“I’m sorry. I do not wish to leave you. Do not scare me like this,” she whispered before she heard a chuckle from below. Emily turned to see that Ian was looking at her.
But not the kind of stare, it was more like a predator that was eyeing his prey.
“So, you don’t wish to leave me? Then, you have to do something to me, my love,” he spoke in a tone that Emily did not recognize before she was blinking her eyes.
“What are you talking about—?”
The sentence cannot be completed as Ian was pulling Emily closer and kissing her. But this time, it was not on her lips, it was on her neck.
“Now, you’re mine, Emily,” Ian said before Emily felt pain in her neck.
Ian bit her!
Ian felt like he was in a dreamland in which the dream was so vivid and lucid that he felt Emily under his mouth. He did not know whether he should enjoy the kiss that he placed on her neck or if he should stop it.
He knew that he was not having control over his Demon as he was blinking in and out of the world as he was looking at the frightened brown orbs that belonged to his wife.
No, he was not strong enough to resign his Demon this time and it would cost him his Emily for the rest of his life.
