Chapter 119

FELIX Marshall, Baron of Fell, who was known as Marsh by his friends and family, was sitting in the sitting room of the royal monarch of Niapachad Island. He did not know why he was being called again, after witnessing what his cousin get from getting a kiss from a stranger and a slap from his wife.
I don’t think I was built for that life, he mused before the door opened and he stood from the divan that he was sitting in, staring at the fire. The young queen and her husband, the prince consort greeted him in a way that made Marsh being wary of the reason why he was summoned by the Queen herself.
“I see that you made yourself at home, Fell,” she said with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Marsh smiled before he was bowing at her and her husband.
“I was used to be getting comfortable for the last 3 months,” he said as he was looking at the young couple before the queen took a seat before he did.
“So, what do I owe the pleasure of coming here?” Marsh was looking at them before the young queen smiled at him.
“It has been 3 months since your return but you have stuck in the capital for the longest time. I think it is time for you to go back to your region and take care of it,” the young queen said as Marsh was looking at her.
His region, the North Msallste
His jaws clenched as it has been a long time since he served as a Baron, let alone wanted to get his region in order.
“I don’t think I can—“
The queen held her hand up. “Do not be concerned about what you cannot do but focus on what you can do. You have been here for 3 months with the success of our meeting with the supernatural leaders and I heard that they were moving forward. I want you to move forward. What about a family like your cousin? A wife perhaps?” the queen asked before he sighed. He knows why he was here. He has every reason to believe it will not be his next field trip.
It was his wedding.
He turned to look at the royal couple before he sighed. He knows there was no winning with the queen even if he tried. So, he just has to succumb to her wish.
“I see what I can do,” Marsh said that made the queen smiled for the first time after he was home.

LADY Ava Randolph, or known as Ava by her family, was looking outside the carriage as she was sighing over the sight that was moving past the carriage. She never thought that she would be getting up in the morning and thought maybe it was a good idea to go with her parents for the weekend to North Msallste for her father to have business there. Ava sighed before her mother chided in.
“Oh, don’t look so gloomy, dear. It would be good for you to see what the region has to offer. I heard that have balls and operas that surely get you someone’s attention,” her mother said before Ava turned to look at her.
Of course, she mused as she smiled at her mother. Ava has been of age for a very long time and it has been relentless for her mother to see that no lord was knocking on their door to take Ava away from the household.
But being an only child and daughter, Lord Randolph grunted after hearing what his wife has to say about their daughter.
“You cannot say that! What a ridiculous notion. No lord was perfect or good enough for my daughter. If they want her, they have to go through me,” her father said that earned a scowl from her mother.
“But darling, it has been 3 years since she was of age. There will be two remaining years before she was on the shelves, no one would like to have a spinster as their wife,” her mother reasoned, only to get a scowl from her father.
“Then, she can live in peace with us. Ava does not leave the house and what remains for her to enjoy is her peace and maybe some cats,”
“Are you saying I will be an old hag with lots of cats, Papa?” Ava interrupted before Lord Randolph was turning to look at her, smiling at her.
“If you prefer that term, then I guess that’s yes,” he said before her mother scoffed. But her father was winking at her before she chuckled lowly. Her father has always been the one that supported her throughout her life while her mother Lady Randolph…
Well, let’s just say she was rather interested in her love life, which was almost nonexistent.
“I cannot believe we will be spending some time here after so long. And I cannot wait for the opera that we will be going to tonight. What was it about, darling?” her mother said, ignoring their earlier conversation when she realized that she has lost the argument.
Fine by me, Ava mused before her father was saying something about the opera but Ava was turning to look at the land outside as they were passing some green meadows. There was no other carriage insight as it was daylight.
Most of the islanders of Niapachad Island usually worked in the nighttime, as it has been that way for many centuries ago. The gentry was the one that ruled to let the nighttime be the official time to conduct business but they did not ban anyone to conduct business during the daytime.
It would be less crowded, which worked in Ava’s favor for she hated to be in a crowded place.
But of course, tonight when the opera would be in view and she had to attend simply because her parents went, Ava just wished something will not happen to her or else she might be cursing for the rest of the night.
