Chapter 16

Viper

I went back to the club after I talked to Sabine. I needed to get some paperwork done and check on the club. I may not be in charge for another week but I am still paying attention to what is going on. Merigold and the ol’e ladies have the skanks in line but I still need to go over the lists Merigold and Anna supply me with. It has everything from who needs to go to the doctor, if there is any maintenance that needs to be done in their quarters and a budget for hygiene and personal needs. I sent a prospect to check on a leaky bathroom faucet one of the girls complained about. I needed to know if it was something one of us could fix or if we needed a plumber.

I approve the budget for the girls. That part is easy since Merigold has them itemize it so I know what the money's going for. Then Anna will do the shopping to make sure the money is used correctly. Then I approve Tina’s trip to the doctor. That poor girl has had a cold for a week now and can’t shake it. Gretchen made a note that Tina may need something stronger than over the counter medicine. After that I go over Anna's kitchen budget. Honestly I barely look at it. I know it has gotten bigger over the years. Some are because our club has gained new members. All of us guys have big appetites. But I know twenty five percent of the budget if not more is stuff for the kids. We never know when one is going to stop by so we keep snacks, drinks and kid friendly foods around. We even have a section set aside for kids with allergies. The safety of those kids is our top priority even when it comes to food.

The thought of kids makes me smile. I can’t wait to start a family with Sabine. I may have to wait a few years because I don’t see Sabine competing pregnant. And I don’t think she is ready to retire yet. But I can wait. Or maybe she might want to adopt. We could talk to Ailee and Cormac and take one or two of the foundation kids. I would watch them while Sabine trains. Our kids don’t have to have my blood. I would like one to carry on my name but it isn’t a deal breaker.

The prospect gets back to me and tells me the whole faucet needs to be replaced. But he can do it. We have an account with the hardware store and tell to go get what he needs. When I am done I gather everything to send over to Ace. I look at the time and see three hours have passed. Now time for some personal business. I called the local flower shop. I made arrangements to have wild flowers and carnations delivered to the rink everyday for a week. I’ll see how that goes over before I do more.

I head to the kitchen to round up something to eat. I make a quick sandwich and head to the bar. I need to work on the next part of my plan. Getting Sabine to go on a date with me. I think back to the picture of us at a diner. I think I want to try to recreate that as much as possible. Unfortunately I don’t remember much. I’ll start with the diner and make new memories. I also need to do something with the house. I’m going to take it over and get it ready for Sabine to move in with me.

Yes, I’m that confident in myself. I know Sabine is sharing a house with Nixon but I don’t see us living with him. Sabine and I need to be on our own for a while. Not with a single guy who brings women around all the time. I think I will gut the house, have it cleaned from top to bottom and buy everything new. I don’t want my girl sleeping on a bed someone else has slept on. She deserves new things.

It is a quiet night at the club. There are a few skanks around taking care of some prospects. We have music playing but it is low. I was sitting at the bar having a beer with Thor and Rowdy. We were discussing redoing the kitchen at the house when Casper walked in. This could be good or it could be bad. I’m hoping for good. I see Claire walk up to Casper. He steps back and laughs “ I don’t think so lady. I love my sister too much to fuck with you.”

He comes over to the bar and has a seat beside me. After ordering and taking a sip of his whiskey he turns to me.” She was quiet after you left. With her that’s a good thing. It means she is thinking.” I smile at that. I’m hoping she is thinking of giving me a chance. “ I even heard Sabine talking to Nixon about the dispensary. You might be getting a new lease soon.” Casper said. I would like that but I’m more interested in Sabine herself than the lease.

Casper takes a long pull of his whiskey emptying the glass. He sets it down and orders another one. After he gets it he stares at the glass. “ Watching her I thought we needed to talk. There are some things we need to talk about. Things that don't leave us.” Casper said. I look over at Thor and Rowdy. “ Brothers, could you give us a minute?” I asked them. They stood up but Casper asked “ Do you boys support Viper getting Sabine back?” “ We do.” Rowdy answers and Thor nods. “ Then have a seat. But like I said, what I say doesn’t leave us.” They sit back down but don’t say a word.

“ No one likes a cheater but Sabine has a personal reason. Twenty seven years ago her parents were having problems. Her dad got hammered one night and cheated on her mom. It was a one time thing but they fought about it for years. Even after Sabine came along. She heard some of their fights and her mom would always bring it up. Nixon and I tried to shield Sabine as much as possible but she heard.” Casper said. I didn’t say anything when he stopped talking to take a drink.

I get the feeling there is more to this story. “ I can see why Sabine can’t stand cheating. It almost tore her parents apart. But Casper I get the feeling you're not telling me something.” Casper nods “ Yea, there is more. This is the part that can’t leave us. Sabine doesn’t even know this part. Nixon and I are hoping she never finds out.” He finishes his whiskey in one gulp. Damn what is he fixing to tell me.

“ That one night stand came with an unexpected surprise.” Casper said. What is he talking about? What surprise? Then it clicks. Something they didn’t want Sabine to know. “ It was Sabine.” Casper only nods.I absorb what he just said. Poor Sabine. “ Wait where do you come in?” I asked. Rowdy is looking at Casper real close. What the hell is he doing? “ Holy shit.Sabine is your sister.” Rowdy exclaimed. My jaw drops when Casper says “ Yep. My mom was the one night stand.”

“ And Sabine has know idea?” I asked, wondering how that is possible. “ No. When my mom told her dad they came to an agreement. Mom was in no shape to raise a baby so when she gave birth she handed Sabine over to Sabine’s dad. Her parents were going to raise her as their own since Sabine’s mom could have more kids. With the agreement that Sabine was to never know. Unfortunately having a constant reminder of your husband’s cheating made it difficult sometimes. Don’t get me wrong her mom loved Sabine in her own way and did a good job raising her. Sabine and her were never close like Sabine is with me and Nixon.That is her mom’s fault. And when her mom was pissed she would bring it up. Nixon and I shielded her from it.” Casper said.

“ That’s why you are always with her. Because you are her brother.” Rowdy said. “ Nixon and I were fourteen when she was born. She was the cutest thing ever. I held her before they passed her off to her dad. I vowed then that no matter what happened I was never going to abandon her. I couldn’t.” Casper said. “ Nixon and I made a pact. Since we're best friends we would protect her together and keep this from her. We didn’t want her thinking she was a mistake of a drunken night. Sabine is not now or never has been a mistake.”

I have always respected Casper as a club member but now I respect him as a man and a brother. “ I appreciate you telling me this. But I have to ask why?” I said. “ Because if Sabine ever found out it would be an accident. And she won’t come to me, Nixon, any Devil or her parents. I’m telling you because when that day comes I need you to promise me you will be there for her. Support her when we can’t. I need your word on your kutte to take care of her.” Casper said.

I hold out my hand to him. He grabs it and I say “ You have my word on my kutte and my club. I will always be there for her. Whether we are together yet or not.I will always have Sabine’s back. I will always support her. Like I should have done from the beginning.” '' Thank you, Viper.” Casper said. “ All of us brothers will be there for Sabine if she needs us. She is family now. Even if she doesn’t accept it yet.” Rowdy said. Thor nods in agreement. Wow what a bomb to be dropped tonight. But I meant what I said. For Casper to confess that to me means he thinks I have a shot.
