Chapter 53

Viper

After Sabine got released from the hospital I took her straight home. I wanted her to rest comfortably in our bed. I told everyone that I didn’t want any visitors tonight. They could see her as much as they wanted the next day with the condition that Sabine got plenty of rest and didn’t move around much. That night I held Sabine to my chest as tight as I could without hurting her. I was terrified to let her go. I kept seeing the car flipped on it’s roof. And Sabine laying lifeless on the ground. I could shake the images from my head. I have never felt so helpless in my life. I was there for Axel and Rowdy when Merigold got hurt. Same with Tank. I supported them the best I could but I never fully understood what they were going through. Until now. And it isn’t something I want to experience again.

The next morning Rocket came barging in. Not just the house but our bedroom. When I heard the door open I was instantly awake. Rocket never said a word when she looked at Sabine laying on my chest. She didn’t have to. Her face said it all. She was relieved to see Sabine and scared at the same time. She nodded her head at me as she walked around to Sabine’s side of the bed. I was about to ask her what she was doing when Rocket crawled into the bed carefully. Rocket gently wrapped her hands around Sabine’s waist and laid her head on Sabine’s shoulder burning her face in Sabine’s hair.

I looked over to tell Rocket to get out. I was used to the Devils invading us but this was too much. But when I saw Rocket’s shoulders shaking and sniffling I couldn’t do it. I have known Rocket for several years and never once have I seen her cry. I didn’t have the heart to throw her out right now. She needed to let it out and be close to Sabine as much as I did. I felt movement on my chest and looked down. I watched as Sabine moved one hand and placed it on Rocket’s. Sabine didn’t move anymore than that.

“ I’m safe, Rocket. You don’t need to worry.I’m fine.” Sabine said. My sweet girl. She has had her sleep disturbed which she hates. She is banged up. But she is still comforting her sister. “ You may be fine but I’m not. Give me this.” Rocket mumbles. Sabine giggles. “ Okay. But Rocket, you know I’m not the only one in this bed.” Sabine said. Rocket lifts her head and looks at me. “ Sorry, you aren’t my type. I just need my Pixie fix.” Rocket says. I can’t help but laugh. Some guys would love to have two hot women in their bed. I know Brick does. He loves having his wives in bed with him. I have heard him say it often enough when he isn’t complaining about one of them being a blanket hog or digging in their feet into him.But that isn’t for me.

“ Rocket you are great but I only have eyes for one lady in this bed and it isn’t you. And I don’t share.” I said. I still haven’t moved. I don’t plan on it yet. Rocket invaded my time. She can deal with it. Rocket smiles “ Smooth. I like you.” Sabine giggles “ Good because I like him too. I think I will keep him.” I kiss the top of Sabine’s head “ I’m all yours baby.” Rocket has been in our bed for five minutes and shows no sign of leaving. I decided to get up and give them some time alone.

The rest of the day Sabine had a flood of visitors. I stayed with her and Ace covered me at the club so I could have the day with my girl. Sabine convinced me to let her go back to work the next day. I agreed that she could teach her classes as long as that was all she did. I know she is frustrated with me for hovering but I can’t help it. By the middle of the week I noticed a change in Sabine. She seemed aggravated about something. I figured it might be my hovering so I backed off a little. I had postponed the party at the club until next weekend to give Sabine more time to recover. The club understood. But Ace did warn me to not put it off any longer. After the conversation I heard before the accident I agreed with him.

I don’t want Sabine thinking I don’t want to claim her. Or that she isn’t part of the club. I had planned a quiet night at the house tonight. I was hoping to get to the bottom of Sabine’s change in attitude. I had brought home some subs from Sabine’s favorite deli. I got some of her favorite popcorn and snacks. I figured we could curl up on the couch and watch a few movies. I put everything away and ran upstairs to check on Sabine and grab a shower. I had Ratchet watch over her tonight. You might think I’m nuts for having our deaf prospect watch over her but I’m not. He may not be able to hear but he makes up for it with his other senses. He told me Sabine had been upstairs relaxing before I dismissed him.

I walk in and see kicked back on the bed, leaning against the headboard, reading on her tablet. A pleasure she doesn’t get to indulge in very often. I walked over and kissed Sabine on the top of the head. “ I brought home some dinner.” I told her. Sabine tilts her head up and smiles “ Thanks honey.” “ I’m going to take a shower then we can go down to eat.” I said. “ Sounds good. I’ll just finish this last page.” she replied. I took off my kutte laying in the chair in the corner. And head to the bathroom. I don’t want to take long in there so I strip down quickly and jump in.
