Chapter 37

Viper

We were just wrapped up church and we walked out to grab our phones. The club voted to reinstate me to President. So I finally have my club back. The dispensary and the land deal has been fixed. Speed, Merigold, and Anna are all on good terms with Sabine. I have my wife in our house where she belongs. My life is looking good. I grab my phone and sit at the bar to have a beer with my brothers before I go home.Just one. I had my sexy wife waiting at home and I wasn’t going to stay too long.

I had just taken a deep pull from my beer when my phone rang. I look down and see it is Casper calling. I know he is working at Sabine's place. Maybe they found something. I pick it up but before I can say a word Casper says “ Pixie found out.” “ What are you talking about? Found out what?” I asked. Casper quickly explained about the picture she found and the talk with her parents and how they finally admitted the truth to her. And how came over and confronted Casper. “ Where is she headed now?” I asked.

“ I don’t know man. She left and Goof is with her. She isn’t answering her phone. At least for any of us.” Casper said. “ I’ll find her. Hopefully Goof either took her home or is bringing her here.” I told him. I could tell he was panicking. I would be too if this was Merigold. “ Just let me know she is safe. Please man. And take care of her. I know she is going to need time before she is ready to talk to us. Tell her I’ll be here when she is ready.” Casper said.

“ I got her brother. I will text you when I know where she is. And keep you updated.” I told him. “ Thanks man.” he says and hangs up. My phone beeps with a message from Goof. “ Sabine is home. I have eyes on her. Prez, she is really upset. I have never seen her like this.” I text Casper to let him know Sabine is home and safe. I chug my beer and stand up. Rowdy was sitting next to me and looked up. “ Problem Prez?” he asked. “ Yea,brother.” I said. “ Need backup?” Rowdy asked.

“ No. This one I have to handle on my own.” I said. I looked at Rowdy. “ That thing Casper said he hoped would never happen.” Rowdy nods. He was there the day Casper told us the story. “ It happened.” I told him. Rowdy shakes his head “ Shit. Let us know if you need anything. We can send some ol’e ladies over to help.” “ Thanks man. Right now Sabine probably feels betrayed and like she lost her family.” I said. “ Let her know she has us. She knows this life, she knows what it means.” Rowdy said.

I left the club, jumped on my bike and raced home. The cold air felt like needles against my skin as I drove. I was breaking the speed limit by more than twenty miles over. I didn’t care, I just needed to get to my girl. She may not know it right now but she needs me. And I will be there for her in any way I can. I pull up to the house and park next to the front steps. After making sure the kickstand was down I turned my bike off and jumped off. I leap up the three steps to the porch and bolt inside. I look around trying to spot my wife.

I see Goof sitting on the coffee table in front of the couch Sabine is sitting on. Sabine has a glass of juice in her hand staring at it. Goof gets up and comes over to me. He whispers “ Pocket has been like this since we got home. I can’t get her to eat. She has taken a few sips of juice. She won’t talk, just sits and stares.” I have to do something for Goof to thank him for taking good care of Sabine. Maybe a couple days off. “ Do you know what happened?” I asked him. I needed to know how much he knew.

“ Yea.” Goof said. He explains how he was in the kitchen with Sabine while she was cooking dinner. He tells me about Rocket and the albums and everything that happened after that. “ I was with her the whole time. I have to tell you man. This is pretty fucked up.” he said. “ I’m right there with you brother.” I told him. “ Why don’t you call it a night? Send a prospect over to watch the outside. I have her tonight.” I said. “ Thanks, Prez. Let Sabine know I have her back.” Goof said before walking over to give Sabine a hug.

She would normally hug him back. I have gotten used to Sabine hugging all the guys as much as I’m not a fan. This time she doesn’t even move. This is not good. As Goof walks past me he grabs my shoulder before walking out. I walk over and sit on the couch beside Sabine, pick her up and set her on my lap. “Baby?” I asked. I wasn’t sure what to say. Were there even words for this? Sabine curls into my chest. “ I was making us dinner.I was going to surprise you with a romantic dinner.” Sabine starts. I rub circles on her back to encourage her to keep talking and offer her comfort.

I discovered Sabine likes having her back rubbed when she is upset. It soothes her. “ I wanted to talk. About us. And our possible future. I had it all planned out. What I was going to say, what outfit I was going to wear. All of it.” she whispers. Sounds like I was in for a nice night. Even though she said she wanted to talk, I don’t get the feeling that it was a bad thing. “ That all changed when some pictures fell out of an album. I forgot about everything. It suddenly didn’t even feel as important at that moment.”Sabine said. There is no emotion to her as she talks.

And that isn’t like her. I’m guessing she is just numb right now. “ Casper, called and told me what happened. Do you want to talk about it?” I asked her. Sabine looks up at me for the first time since I got home. “ Not tonight. I need to wrap my head around everything first.” she said. “ Can I do anything for you?” I asked. I wouldn’t push her to talk if she didn’t want to. It would just piss her off. Sabine sits up and straddles my lap. She wraps her arms around my neck and just stares at me. I wrap my arms around her waist and get lost in her hazel eyes.
