Chapter 18

Pixie

I can’t see anything because of the way Viper is covering me. “ Pixie.” Ice shouts. “ I have her,'' Viper yells out. “ Check the door,” he says. “ Viper, get Pixie out of here. Get to the rink. Rocket is waiting to check her over.” Casper said. I peek out to get out from under Viper. Before I can move, Viper slides his arms under me and picks me up bridal style. “ Keep your head close to my chest.” he says before bending over me and running.

I know we get inside the rink because I can hear Rocket shout “ Bring her here. I need to look at her.” Viper still hasn't let me look up. He doesn't stop moving until we get to Rocket’s side. “ Viper, you need to put her down.” Rocket said. Viper stands but pulls me closer to his chest. “ You can look at her just fine like this,” he says. This is going nowhere. Rocket has a job to do even though I don’t think I’m hurt and Viper is blocking her.

I place my hand on Viper's chest. His very hard, muscular, tattooed chest. Focus Sabine. “ Ethan.” I whisper. “ Let Rocket look me over. It is her job. She needs to make sure I’m not hurt.” Viper looks down at me and I see fear in his eyes. Fear for me. I smile at him to let him know I’m ok. He nods and very gently sets me down on my feet. But he doesn’t let go of me. I guess this is the best we are going to get.

“ Casper said the front is covered in glass. Did you get cut anywhere?” she asked. “ I don’t think so. Viper had me cover before I heard glass shatter.” I said. “ Just to be safe, let me have a look.” she said. Rocket ran her fingers through my hair checking for glass. She looks over my face “ Not a scratch on your beautiful face. Good or I would have had to kill someone.” Rocket said.
I laughed because that's how she is with me. “ Keep sweet talking to me like that and I might have to switch teams.” I said with a smirk. Viper’s grip got a little tighter. “ I pray for that day to come. I will snag you up before anyone can get near you, sweetness.” Rocket said then gave me an air kiss. Viper growls at Rocket “ Mine.”

Rocket laughs “ Easy, big guy. We all know she is yours. I’m just showing you our Pixie here has options so don’t screw this up.” Rocket continues looking me over until she is satisfied I don’t have a single cut on me. By the time she is done Casper and Ice are back. I turn to them “ What the hell happened up there?”

Ice glares at Viper. Sometimes his overprotective brother bit is too much. “ Someone threw several bricks through the door. One had a note strapped to it.” Ice said. “ What did the note say?” I asked. “ One word ‘ Cheater’' Casper said. “ Cheater? What does that mean? Is someone accusing me of cheating at a competition? I win those fair and square. I work hard for my wins.” I huffed. “ We know Pixie. And so do the judges. I think it means the other kind of cheater.” Casper said.

What kind of cheating are they talking about I wonder. Then it hits me “ I have never cheated on anyone. Viper was my first and only for heaven's sake. He was my first serious anything. I never really dated before him. I take my vows seriously. I swear I didn’t cheat on anyone.” I cried. I can feel the tears running down my face. Ice tries to pull me away from Viper but doesn’t get very far.

Viper isn’t letting go. Ice kneels “ We know that sweety. We know you would never do anything like that.” Ice says as he glares at Viper. “ So I think it was either aimed at Viper or Nixon.” Ice said. “ Pixie as much as I don’t want to say this. It could be a crazy fan thinking you are cheating on them.” Casper said.

I feel like I'm going to faint. My legs feel like they won’t hold me. I sway and viper tights his hold. Ice places his hands on my hips to keep me steady. I look at Casper but I can hardly see him through my tears. “ I can’t go through that again. Please big brother don’t let it happen again.” I plead. Casper pushes Ice out of the way and wraps his arms around me.

I’m surprised Viper let me go. I wrap my arms around Casper and lay my head on his shoulder. Casper rubs my back like he does when I’m upset and lets me cry it out. “ Pixie you have my word it won’t happen again. But you go anywhere alone. And you always have your headset on. I’m placing someone at the house with you.” Casper said. I just nod against his chest.

“ Pixie, we need extra men. I want to use the Renegades help.” Casper said. “ Bring in the national guard for all I care. I just can’t go through it again.” I whimpered. I have had a crazed fan before and it almost caused me to lose my career. And almost left me diabled. I can’t go through that again. I didn’t even notice Nixon until he picked me up from Casper. “ I’m taking her to the sauna. She has had enough for the day. You guys work on the details. Do what you have to do to protect her. No matter the cost.” Nixon said before he walked away with me in his arms.
