Chapter 42
Jason's POV.
"Dad, what did you say?" I asked, still in shock. This isn't what we concluded. We never said we would be killing her...
"You heard me right; kill her here and now or they will have to do it for you!" He growled more deeply, his countenance having that menacing look.
"Jason, this is a dream, right?" Scarlett sobbed, holding my arm as she was filled with terror. I guess she had trusted me so much or must have been so blinded by her obsession.
"Get your hands off me!" I huffed, wriggling off with my face grim.
She cried and looked around, shivering in fear at the furious wolves howling at her with those fangs and dark eyes.
"You can't kill her because she is your mate?" Dad asked, and I sighed. I can't believe Dad is this serious about killing my mate. He had just made me bring her into the pack so he would kill her. He didn't accept my plan of using her as bait.
"Dad, I thought we planned on using her as bait, making her a spy in her pack. She would bring information for us. I thought that was what he concluded. Why do you want her dead now?" I asked confusedly, and he made a croaky laugh, which was also heart-skipping.
Everything about my father is just so scary, and I guess Scarlett would faint in fear if he shifted into a wolf in her presence. The size, the fierceness, the howl, the fire that would be in his eyes and how strong and sharp his claws appear, all that is enough to make a wolf freeze. In horror
"I didn't fall for your tricks!" He snapped, and I frowned, feeling angry. It was clear Dad no longer trusted me, and I can't blame him since he badly wanted to take revenge and would never want to fail to defeat Daren.
"Dad, you thought I would foil the plans like you thought I would fall in love instead." I asked, and he nodded.
"The bond of mate, which I saw was too strong. It was so strong that you were both ready to die for each other. I saw it and fear gripped me. If I don't kill her, there is no way you will comply. In the end, you will shatter all I planned and desired. I won't allow that!" He huffed and turned to the Beta, whose wolf was more wolf and enraged.
"Hey, little girl, stop acting weak. I already know of your powers. You should use them or die!" He sneered at Scarlett, who shivered down to her knee,
"Please don't kill me. Please? I never did anything wrong to you. I'm sorry if my father wronged you. Please, I don't want to die. " She kept pleading with her lips quivering, sweat and tears covering her whole face, dropping down to the ground.
I shut my eyes, taking a deep breath. My heart was already heavy at the moment, and I felt I did the wrong thing, but Dad tricked me into believing he agreed not to kill my mate. That was why I brought her here.
Now she was going to die?
"Dad, her guards are outside to receive her when she leaves this place. Her brother knew I took her home. Killing her would cause great havoc. It would cause Alpha Darren to lay an ambush on us. Can we?"
"Shut up, little boy!" Dad cut me off with a killer glare.
"I don't give a damn. As for her bodyguards, their dead bodies are lying on the ground now. "What if Alpha Darren discovers we murdered his daughter? Do you think I'm afraid of him?" He sneered, his tone exuding confidence mixed with hate.
"My daddy will wipe out your pack and destroy every single soul here." Scarlett shrieked, and Dad turned to her. He smirked, walking closer while she moved her legs back in fear.
Dad caught hold of her hair tightly. He drew it up, leaving her face staring at him.
"You think your father is capable, right?" ...then watch and see how I destroy him myself! " He growled and gave her a heavy punch that landed on her nose.
She cried in pain, falling to the ground as blood gushed down her neck and back.
"Beat her to a pulp!" He ordered the wolves, and they all pounced on her while I watched with a heavy heart.
With that curt look, Dad shifted his gaze to me.
"Go into your toom, your presence is no longer required," he huffed, and I looked at Scarlett, who was already bruised; the more she fought with her weak wolf, the more they pierced and smeared her entire body, leaving her wolf howling in pain as blood gushed out...
"Dad! Darren is going to wipe us all away! .. you are hurting his only daughter! " I yelled, but he laughed instead.
"I am daring him to a fight!" He smirked, leaving my head pounding at how mean Dad was. He was just too confident and was undisturbed.
I knew things would never be the same after today; I wouldn't be going to school anymore; instead, I'd be preparing for war, a massive one from which I'm not sure I'd survive.
I thought this war would come later, in a distant time, but I had no idea it was already knocking at the door. The great war that would claim so many lives,
"You are one of the warriors we depend on. Never again are you going to relent or act weak. That's why I'm killing her! " He howled with those glares, and my heart skipped a beat.
Little did he know the lady he was brutally killing wasn't my mate. She wasn't the lady I felt the mate pull for; she was a stand-in for Elena, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing her, so I made Scarlett the sacrificial lamb to save Elena.
I heaved a deep sigh as I found my way away to my room, leaving Scarlett screaming and howling in the deep pain she must be going through.
Elena, I did this for you.
