Chapter 117 No Mercy

(Jean Luc POV)

I wasn't able to have lunch after I passed out and I was getting impatient waiting for the food Alexander had promised me. I wasn't necessarily impatient because I was hungry per se, I was impatient because the food would be my ticket out of this cell. I had noticed they would have to open the cell to give me my food. When that happens, I have an opportunity to escape.

My Beta was weeping in the other cell, his back towards me, hiding his tears. I felt disgusted with him. When we started our life of crime, he was all in, no matter what. It even came to a point he fought with me regarding his earnings. He did not like the fact I was getting much more of the score while he recieved so little. I had to explain to him without my fast thinking and planning, we would not earn much. As the mastermind of our illegal operations, it was befitting I would receive more than anyone else. He didn't accept my explanation and had said without him and the men, there was no way my plans could proceed. In the end, I decided to increase their wages so he would stop debating with me.

Now he's crying, regretting ever being loyal to me and regretting enduring the life of crime we both had handsomely profited from. If I could just reach him from this cell, I'd break his neck with my bare hands.

The door suddenly opened and two women in robes entered. One was in blue, the other in green. I recognized one, a woman named Maria. She was the date of Maximus during the Caïd's celebration. The other was a beautiful blonde woman who I have not seen before.

They stood there in front of my cage, silent not moving. My Beta wiped his tears away and turned to face them, wondering what would happen next.

They moved to the side, their heads bowed down, and another women came in wearing a yellow robe pushing a cart of food and clothing. Her downcast eyes and lowered face was hidden by the hood of her cloak. I sniffed her and I was met with the scent of a bouquet of roses.  Celeste!

"Celeste, so fitting of you to bring me food. Why is your face hidden? Are you ashamed to look me in the eye after you deceived me?" I smirked at her. The audacity to even show herself to me after what she had done.

Upon hearing my statement, Celeste pushed back her hood and raised her face to me. I yelped and moved back. She had golden eyes! A descendant of our wolf leaders of long ago. She is basically royalty!

"Hello, Jean Luc! From the expression of your face, you know who I am or you know of me." Her accent was American. She wasn't English.

"I would like to formally introduce myself. I am Hope. These two women beside me are my Priestesses, Maria and Leia. We were asked to provide you your meal as well as some clothing. The only way to provide you these is to open the cell. The others know you will try to escape, thus to make sure you don't, the girls and I practically volunteered." Her eyes darkened and I saw silver fangs come out of her mouth. My eyes widened.

"You are a Grace Lunar Wolf! Immune to silver and graced with silver fangs! Oh mighty one, I beg you, have mercy on me." I knelt down. No wonder the wolves bowed low to her. She was a formidable wolf.

"No amount of begging can get you out this, Jean Luc. My brother has a score to settle with you." She moves her hand and the doors of our cells open. I get up and move back so does my Beta, whimpering in fear. The plates of food and clothes float in the air and land gently at our feet. The doors of our cells then swing shut with a loud bang that reverberated through the bars.

"Whatever I had done to Fang, I ask for your forgiveness." I can't believe I have done so much wrong to the one wolf I had always dreamt of seeing. Now that she is here, I would do anything to appease her.

"You shouldn't ask for my forgiveness, Jean Luc. I suggest you get dressed and eat your food before it gets cold. We will keep an eye on you until it is time." A number of men come in and place a small table and chairs inside the room. The woman in the blue robe pushes the cart back out, but reenters after a few minutes, with a pot of tea and biscuits. They all sat down and quietly snacked, obviously conversing through
mind link.

I looked down at my plate. It was steak. I sat down on the floor and started eating. With each bite of steak, I felt all hope draining away from me. Maybe if I cooperate with them, it may play to my advantage. I could find a way to escape.

My ancestors have long searched for the wolf with the golden eyes. After they were separated from us, misfortune plagued our packs. It was  believed the bountiful life we once had was brought about by the blessing of those with the golden eyes.

It was rumored that many of the wolves who were with them during the separation grew envious and killed them. Some said, the bears killed them off. The most recent story was the Moon Goddess had cursed the golden eyed wolves when she created The Rogue Lord. Several years ago, new spread that The Rogue Lord killed the remaining adult she-wolf who was blessed with golden eyes as well as her first born child to end the prophecy of his death. However, when the whispers of The Rogue Lord's death by the hands of a she-wolf spread three years ago, I believed the prophecy had come true. The one with the golden eyes walks among us.

When I tried to extract more information regarding the matter, I always arrived at a dead end. It was as if no one did not want to give me information. Were they protecting her? If so, why? After seeing her display of power, I have come to the conclusion, it was more out of fear for her.

I had to escape. If I had to hurt her so I could leave, so be it. I thought fast and noticed the steak knife in my hand.

"I am finished with me food." All three women turn their heads to look at me. Hope stands and opens the door of my cage.

"Come, give it to me," she said, her hand stretched out, waiting for the plate.

I walk to her with one of my arms outstretched to give her the plate while the other hand I kept hidden, holding my steak knife. As I hand her my plate, her fingers brush mine, then I proceed with my steak knife and try to stab her. I was suddenly thrown forcefully against the bars of the cage. My back started to burn upon contact with the bars of my cell and I hastily moved away, groaning in pain.

"No one fears me from where I'm from, Jean Luc. I have shown people, wolves, bears, coyotes, everyone, kindness. I give as much as I can. Who do you think gave you the money to build your school? You made your pack believe it was from you, but in reality, it was from me. After all I have done, this is the thanks that I get? You trying to stab me so you can escape? You think I will show you mercy after doing that to me?" Hope shakes her head in utter disbelief. "It's no use, Jean Luc. You will not escape your punishment." She moves her hand, the steak knife that was lying on the floor beside me flies unto the plate and the cell door closes after.

I try to touch the burns on my back. My wolf started to whimper in pain. It was no use. I could not escape a powerful wolf as she.

Moon Goddess, forgive me.

(Alexander POV)

"Arthur, what happened to Maximus?" I sniff him, the undeniable scent of Maximus was still there, but his disguise was gone. He had a big smile on his face, proof everything went well at his end.

"I think it's time to throw away the disguise and experience Paris as my old, wrinkly self. No need to use the disguise any longer to scare the mafia into submission. All the ranking officials are dead." Arthur pats me on the arm, pleased with himself.

"I heard from a little bird the former owner of Société Agricole has already been arrested using the evidence I have given the police. He will be indicted on racketeering charges, fraud as well as money laundering. Seems everything is going as planned. Jacques and the girls arrived earlier and now the girls are keeping an eye on Jean Luc before he thinks of trying to escape. The werebears, on the other hand, are keeping guard of Lune Brille and the neighboring pack in the next town. If a retaliation occurs, they'll be ready." I tell him.

"The persecuted bears from the Alps are all here." Arthur exclaims looking around at the arena. We reopened Parrain Andre's underground death arena for one final display of combat. I look at my watch. It was already getting late.

"I think it's time for the main event to proceed. Come on, let's pick up our two challengers." Arthur chuckles as I guide him through the arena to the room where Jean Luc and his Beta were being held.

I open the door so we could enter. The girls were happily snacking on some biscuits while Jean Luc was trying to get dressed in his track suit that we had provided for him. He had burns in his back.

"What happened?" I asked the girls through mind link.

"He tried to stab Hope with a steak knife," Leia mind linked me back. I shake my head. Jean Luc was one stubborn fellow. It was in his nature as a criminal.

"Hurry up. The main event is about to start." I yell at him.

Today is his day of reckoning. I, for one, believe he deserves no mercy.

I hope Jacques makes him suffer before he kills him.
