Chapter 74 Trackers
(Alexander POV)
We walk towards the back of Big Mama Angela's Diner into the forest. I look for the trail that heads to the shack. Even in daylight it looked scary.
I open the door, it was empty. I sniff around to see if I could catch a whiff of him if he came recently, nothing. I look at the table, a small arrow was etched into the wood pointing to the chair. I look at the chair and behind it and could not see anything else. I look at the wall behind it. Nothing. I sat down and tried to think. Where could he have put a message?
I stand up and flip the chair. There it was, a small note with a number on it. I snatch up the note and take a spray bottle from my coat before I exit the shack. I go outside then spray the bottle. It was Amelie's new scent, Decaying Corpse. I immediately close the door so the scent wouldn't get on my clothes.
"That smell is horrible. Damn, Alpha. Well, my buddy says I need to take pictures of the tracking devices and send it to him." Mark mind links me. He was busy messaging his military bud while I was looking around the shack.
We walk back to the diner to wait there when I saw the Range Rover park at the hospital parking lot. I take out my phone to call Oliver and tell them to meet us at the diner.
I had finished ordering when Hope, Grace and Oliver walk in.
"What happened to you?" I look at Hope who was wearing dark glasses to conceal a new black eye. The glasses though didn't hide the big gash on her arm. I'm going to have to talk to David about hitting Hope in the face. Hope and Grace take a seat in front of us while Oliver goes behind the counter to talk to his mother.
"Oh that?! That will heal in a couple of hours. It was bigger a while ago." Hope trying to explain. "I got David back though. He has a black eye too and a bloody lip. I just feel bad I hurt one of the other students."
"About that Alpha, I will explain." Mark was one of Hope's combat instructors. "We had them duel in shifted form and Luna here, sprout out silver fangs. I think it happens when her wolf is agitated. She bit into another student and that wolf shifted back to human form, screaming. His flesh was burning. Luna here healed him in wolf form. No harm, no foul." Mark hurriedly explained in a whisper.
"You what?! How is that even possible?" People stared at me for being loud.
"The locket and the ring. They are on my chest as a wolf." Hope explains.
"So why don't you heal your injuries?" I asked her.
"These are my battle scars. I'm wearing them proudly. I never thought I could fight like a ninja. I just need to learn to move more quickly." She takes off her glasses and points at her black eye.
"Oh my Lord, honey, who did that to you?" An old lady asked Hope as she walked by.
"My combat instructor, Ma'am. Self-defense class." Hope smiles at her.
"I thought it might be a good for nothing husband. Well, did you punch him back, your instructor? Did you punch him back?"
"Yep, he has one of these shiners too."
"Well, good for you." The old lady walks to sit at another booth.
"Well, we'll be going to Seattle soon. You can take a break from training then.
"Oh good. I was about to talk to you about going to Seattle so I can enroll at the University of Washington. It's close by and I can come home over the weekends via helicopter. Arthur already spoke to the President. Thet expect me to come in and enroll. Sorry, I mean they expect US to enroll for this semester."
"Us?" Apparently Hope has been planning things without telling me.
"Maria, Leia and I."
"Leia?" I groan. She was a party girl. I can't trust her with Hope.
"She hasn't finished school yet and she has a girlfriend who is practically her mate. They have plans to get married. She's changed, Alexander. Please give her the benefit of the doubt. If you can't, well trust ME. I have already told her we are going there to study not attend sorority parties. Maria has her heart set on Pharmacology. Leia will be taking Economics while I'll be going into Biological Sciences for pre-med. Anyway, I'm near here and I am thinking of staying at the Ulrich HQ."
"I like that idea." Sure, Hope and the other two can stay at the building. They would just have to drive to the University every day and I can come and go to Seattle as I please.
"So everything is settled then?" Hope looks at me to agree with her. Her black eye was already clearing up and she was smiling so sweetly.
"How could I say no? You just need to buy cars for all three of you for school."
"It is already done. My cherry red Ferrari should already be at your building and I bought the other two, BMW's." Hope looks up at the ceiling praying I wouldn't get mad at her buying a Ferrari as her school ride. My mate seems to not want to hide her money.
"You are going against tradition of living as any other student."
"I had lived like any other student until high school, Alexander. Our children can follow tradition once we have children." Hope argues.
"Fine. At least you aren't going to New York for college." Hope gives a sqeaul and blows me a kiss.
We were just finishing our pie when the doctor messaged me that she was done. I paid and told everyone we needed to go to the hospital to pick up Amos and Craig.
"Alpha, Luna." Doctor Frances bows her greetings. "Amos and Craig are still changing and are a bit sore." She hands me two tiny cylindrical tubes in a ziploc bag. "Alpha, here you go. They were also located in their hip. As you can see, there's a red light, means it still transmitting. I suspect this is military grade or government issued or something." Mark takes the ziploc bag and looks at the tracking devices.
"This looks like military grade. I wonder who's supplying this to The Rogue Lord. I have a metal box that can deflect the signal, but The Rogue Lord will know something is up. What we can do is jam the signal so all the transmitters will be blocked." Mark tells all of us. "If the Rogue Lord sees all of them are not transmitting, he won't think we know. He'll just think he has a bad signal. Or we can destroy them once all of them are out." Mark takes one and puts it on a sheet of bond paper. He starts taking photos using his phone.
"Doc, we'll be going to Seattle in a couple of days. Is it possible you can take all the tracking devices out of the men before we leave?" I ask her.
"Actually, that was why I had a team with me. Those were residents and interns. They will be taking out the inplants from the older wolves. The younger wolves will be under my care and 2 other surgeons. So, yes I think we can remove all of them before you leave if we start now. You can send maybe 20 older wolves and 3 young ones to come here to the hospital."
"Doctor, I will make sure all of you are well compensated and I will give you houses as a token of my appreciation for doing this." Hope assures the pack doctor.
"Thank you Luna. Here comes Amos and Craig. I have already told them to start picking men from the pack to have their tracking chips removed." The doctor turns to Amos and Craig. "How are both of you?"
"We're fine. The wound will heal in a couple of hours. Thank you, Doctor."
We bring back Amos and Craig and ask them to pick out 20, but almost all of them volunteered once they knew The Rogue Lord was still keeping track of them. We divided the remaining 48 older wolves into 3 groups and asked Mirasol for consent for the young wolves to have the trackers surgically removed.
Hope declared a holiday for her pack members. Work will resume when everyone is properly healed. We took the 1st group of 16 and 3 young wolves to the hospital. The residents and interns were already ready for the extraction of the implants.
Once I arrived back at Dark Moon territory, I took my encrypted phone and dialled the number on the small note I got at the shack.
"No names. Good thing you got my note. I barely escaped. He knew where I had been going."
"There's an implant in your right hip, near the buttocks area. That's how he knows where you are. Remove it, do not destroy it, leave it in area you frequent and I will pick you up at the winery. How long will that take you?"
"I can feel the implant. It is superficial and will be easy to take out. I am far from the winery, however I am not near any wolf territory. It will take me 2 hours max to get there."
"I will see you then." One problem solved. Grace will be happy to be required with her father. Mark enters my office obviously excited with the piece on information he just received.
"Alpha, the trackers are from a company in Colorado that has a long standing contract with the Department of National Defense. Get this, chairman of the board is James Berkeley."
"Council Elder James Berkeley?!" I couldn't believe it. He was the traitor of the Clan of Wolves!
