Chapter 30 Unnoticeable
(Alexander POV)
After Hope's vision of Lancaster's confrontation with Leia, I knew I needed to get information. After all these years, Leia finds the most opportune time to make her presence felt. And she makes a spectacular display- she uses Hope to relay the message.
Subtlety was never Leia's strong suit. I may have found it an endearing quality when I was enamored with her, however now, I find LOUD noisy.
After speaking with Hope's trainer who had moved into the townhouse beside Cecilia, I went next door and paid her a visit. I knocked on her door gently. I heard her footsteps as she approached her front door.
"Who is it?" Cecilia asked through the door.
"It is I, Alpha Alexander." She opens the door.
"Alpha Alexander, what can I do for you?" She bows her head.
"I need you to make me invisible. I have an angry ex-girlfriend who might be watching me. You said so yourself when she tapped into Hope. If it's possible, just for tonight."
"Ah. I know what you need." She told me to sit down. She places her hand, utters an enchantment, a light flashes and a series of runes magically appear on my arm. "This will make you invisible to evil and to prying eyes. To those who love you, they'll see you as clear as day. To those who have misdeeds in their heart, they will not see you nor will they hear your name. "
"Is this good enough for Leia?" I ask, sounding doubtful. "She seems to be a strong dark witch."
"Alpha, they were never able to find Hope for almost eighteen years. I knew my mate was looking for her after we left her at the Alarie's. I feigned ignorance and said all I know is we left her with humans. He suspected I was helping her although he couldn't find enough proof that I was. I asked your mother to act as if she knew Hope was dead and to never say anything to Howard. It was difficult for her to hide these things from your father, but she knew it was for the best. You know the Alarie's. Did you ever suspect?" Cecilia made a good point.
"No. I never saw Hope and believe me I would notice someone as beautiful as Hope. I did hear her name once when I was at the local high school and was donating a number of computers to the school, but I did not see her."
"You heard her name?" Cecilia was surprised. I nodded. "Fated Mates. The Moon Goddess was already giving you a hint. Have you asked Hope if she remembers you? She must have seen you."
"I'll ask her." I stand up. "Thank you, Cecilia."
"Alpha, your mother is a Priestess. Magic flows in you and Amanda. Now that Hope and you are mated, I've seen your aura grow. Hope is a powerful conduit and has passed some of her energy to you when you mated which has already made you stronger and more powerful. You should try and channel that magic. I gave some books to Hope. You may want to try it yourself. Both of you together make quite a good team." She stops, suddenly sits down and goes silent. I walk to the door to take my leave when I see her hold up her hand.
"Evil lurks in the shadows. Make haste. The runes on your arm will guide you on your quest and shine when evil is near." She drops her hand and goes silent.
I thank her again, but she doesn't answer so I take my leave. The runes on my arm will guide me. Good. I need all the help I can get.
I went to a little shed on the side of the house. I changed my clothes. I had to disguise myself and look like a hunter that lives in the woods. I put a cap on, some contact lenses and a fake moustache to hide my face. I spray something on myself to throw off my scent. When I was satisfied that I didn't look or smell like my usual Alpha self, I mind linked one of my men that I was ready.
I follow a small trail that exits the housing area into the forest and head to the RAM pickup truck parked in the dark where one of my trusted men was already waiting in the driver's seat. Oliver and David, I had to leave here for Hope. If they knew what I was about to do, they'd be here with me. I open the passenger door of the pickup and climb in.
"Mark, let's go. You ready?" I ask the man at the driver's seat beside me. He nods his head and starts driving to the village.
"Packing." Mark, my Delta, served in the military like Oliver and David. Mark usually is with me when I have some dirty business to attend to. He likes the cloak and dagger missions.
I remember the day I met Hope. Mark said I should be ready for her to shift since she would be turning eighteen and since she had human parents, propose. Propose? Mark said there was no way in hell they'll let Hope leave with us if I didn't marry her first. So while she was preparing to have dinner with us, Mark sniffed out Mirasol's scent and found the boutique she bought Hope's dress. I went to the jewelry store and bought her a ring that matched her eyes. We came prepared and it all went quite well.
He felt he had let me down during the mating ceremony. He said he let his guard down and didn't expect the enemy to know so much. He sniffed out Bruno who shot the arrow at Hope, but missed, hitting her father instead. He almost killed Bruno, but let him live to get more information. He found out Bruno also aided Emily and gave her the silver dagger to kill Hope.
Mark keeps to himself in the back, keeping a watchful eye. This is why I knew Lancaster was at the hospital waiting for Hope. I had Mark tail him.
Mark also told me about the little she-wolf he brought back to his hotel. She went in with him, but never came out. Mark asked the owner to let him in the room. He was expecting to see the she-wolf inside, but found the room with maggots, worms and flies. It made his skin crawl.
We stop at the local pub. We go in like two guys wanting a beer. I look at my arm, the runes were shining. They have been shining since we left the mansion. It meant we were being followed and whoever was following us was nearby.
We sit at a table in the darkest part of the pub. We order two beers and kept watch.
"We're being followed." I told Mark. Mark himself had a disguise on and smelled like a toilet.
"Seems like it. We need to stay here first and drink." Mark said, his eyes at the door. "And see who comes in through that door."
We were on our second beer when the door of the pub chimes. Mark gave a low growl. I turn around and see a young she-wolf with brown hair in a tight mini-dress. "That's the lady Lancaster brought to his hotel room." He said through mind link.
I look down at my arm. My arm was glowing. "Can I join you?" The she-wolf asked Mark. She was behind me. Her scent smelled of heavy perfume.
Mark pulls out a chair for her. "Sure."
"Wow, you're drinking awfully fast. On your fourth beer already."
"She can't see me," I mind link with Mark. "I have an invisibility spell on me. Means one thing. She's not as sweet as she looks."
"I'll slow down. Offer you a drink?" Mark asks the lady.
"Sure. A beer will do. By the way, I'm Jenny."
"John." He motions for the server to get him some beers. "Go, I got this. I'll meet you at the redezvous point." He mind linked me while trying to look interested at the lady.
I get up, slowly, without moving my chair and head to the door in the back. No one seemed to notice me. Wow. Hope must of really thought no one liked her. Imagine no one noticing you for years.
I exit the pub. I sniff the air and look down my arm. Ok. The glow is faint. One obstacle down. Now, to get to the shack.
I walk through a trail into the forest where a rundown shack was located. I sniff the air. The person I need to speak with was already here.
I open the door and enter the shack.
"Ulrich." A voice says in the shadows.
I quietly closed the door behind me.
