Chapter 47 Malcolm in the Middle

(Alexander POV)

Two halves make a whole. I know that now after Leia almost had me. I would have been dead if it weren't for my better half. Yes, she is my better half.

She's sitting on the sofa, her long legs spread across it, trying to find a spell which can provide us clothes after we've shifted. She practically begged her aunt to give her the book which tells her how she can make her own spells by scratch. If she can't find one, she'll make one.

I'm confined to this bed until the doctor has gotten the test results. I told her I was fine, Hope healed me, yet the doctor took a blood sample and told me "no strenuous activity." I was waiting for her to do the eyebrow thing, but all I got was a stern look.

When Hope was healing me, the Moon Goddess spoke to me. She scolded me for not using my full potential. She pointed at Hope and said, "Your mate who was raised by humans has a more open mind than you do, Alexander. I have given you the gift of hindsight and foresight, yet you have not truly unlocked the full potential of the gift. When you open your full potential, you will see what has and what will become. Your mate is your conduit. Look to her for answers."

I was taken back to the time Adella was a child. Her mother was the High Priestess of her clan and Adella was her apparent heir. As young as 5 years old, Adella was already being mentored to follow in her mother's footsteps with each mistake possessing a grave consequence. Adella was not even allowed to have friends. Her mother saw friendship as a distraction, a weakness even. Adella though, felt friends made her stronger and kept four friends, my mother included.

My mother was the daughter of a Beta in her clan, her mother, a healer. When her parents were murdered, Adella conjured living quarters for her near her home so she would not be anyone's slave. That sealed the loyalty of my mother to Adella. To my mother, Adella was never at fault.

Cecilia was the spoiled daughter. She could do anything she wanted and never get into trouble. She exhibited the gift of invisibility at a young age and she used that gift to steal. She would take things she wanted and if found, Adella would bear the punishment. She was also jealous of Adella for being the firstborn. Strange though. She did save Hope. Well, I'll be keeping a keen eye on her from now on.

Julia was the daughter of a Gamma from a neighboring pack. She exhibited control over the elements. Adella kept her by her side to reinforce her ability over the elements. Adella used a lot of her energy and this caused Julia to become sick. Adella knew of Julia's sickness. She knew her friend was dying and it was all because of her.

Julia's death and everything after it was what caused the war. Since we were still children, Amanda and I were sent away. Amanda was sent to the South and I was sent to the East. I came back to the territory right after the war was declared over. Amanda stayed in the South until she was 6.

Adella allowed herself to be killed by The Rogue Lord just after giving birth to Hope. As penance for her sins. She created this mess, she knew she had to pay for it.

Maria, she just stood there while The Rogue Lord had Adella in his hands. I suspect they were mind linking with each other. However, whatever was said between the two women did not spark any change in Maria's stance. It was Brandt's death which caused Maria's sudden 'change of heart'. After he was killed by The Rogue Lord, Maria went to the creek and reversed the spell she casted, but it was too late. Crescent Moon was gone.

I wondered if Hope's grandmother was still alive. She'd probably take one look at Hope and reject her. I wouldn't want Hope to get hurt. I also wondered if Cecilia knows anything. She's so tight-lipped about everything which makes me not trust her. Yep, I need to keep an eye on her from now on.

Where is the Doctor? I need to get out of this bed.

"Alpha, Malcolm is here." Mark, through mind link.

"I need to get the doctor's permission to get out of bed. Hold on. She's on her way."

"Copy. I'll just give him a tour of the garage."

"Give him anything he wants." I mind link him back.

I hear a knock. Finally, the doctor! She enters with a sheet of paper in her hands.

"Got your results back. You are healthy. I just want you to take it easy for the next few days though, ok Alpha?"

"Sure. Just allow me to get out of this bed. I have an important visitor downstairs," I tell her.

"Who, Alexander?" Hope asks.

"Come with me. I'll introduce you. He's very charming for a werecoyote."

"Werecoyote?" Hope asked, a puzzled look on her face.

"Luna Hope, there are other species of weres. Malcolm and his pack, live between two packs, this one and the Moon Howlers. They keep watch and Alpha here rewards them for their loyalty. Our territory is all the way to those mountains. Here at the village and housing area, it looks small. But the land here and beyond is Dark Moon. Alpha, have you brought Luna Hope to the wineries and grape fields yet?" Doctor Frances turns to Alexander.

"No, because she isn't allowed to drink."

"Okay, strict daddy. Well, if you see a Washington Red, Luna Hope, it's most probable that it is an Ulrich wine. I'll get going. And Luna Hope, no spells today." The doctor warned.

"I'm not casting spells, Doc, I'm trying to make one," Hope said.

"Almost the same thing. Take it easy. You spent all afternoon yesterday doing magic. Remember to take your vitamins and no strenuous activity allowed yet." She waves and leaves, closing the door behind her.

"Well, let's meet our guest shall we?" I take Hope's hand and lead her outside of our room

I guide Hope towards the garage room and there we find Mark standing with a man several inches shorter with a lot of moustache.

"Ulrich, my man, how are you?" He shakes my hand.

"Good. And you?" I ask him.

"Superb!" He looks at Hope. "Oh my dear stars, the whispers are true, she is the fairest of them all! Well, after my mate that is." He gives Hope a wink and laughs. "I'm Malcolm Lawson, Malcolm in the Middle, to these guys. I'm the Alpha of the Brush Coyote Pack or is it band? I can never figure out which one is right."

I see Hope's eyes warm up to him immediately. I knew she would like him. Spontaneous with a comedic flare.

"I was looking at this baby right here and I was wondering if I could buy it off you." He was pointing at an Audi.

"You can buy it off me for a dollar." I told him.

"That much, huh? I gotta think about it then." He pauses. "Just kidding. I'll take it. You drive a hard bargain." He laughs and shakes my hand again.

"Malcolm, I know your time is short. Did you give my men the list?"

"Oh yeah, Oliver and David are stocking the truck. I gotta say, that was just too much excitement for one night. Alarick, the sonofagun, was on roids as usual. He thanks you by the way for a night of fun. Sick bastard!" Malcolm laughs. "He was out drinking with Yuri. When they heard the call, they made a contest out of the whole thing. Who could kill the most rogues? Sick."

"And? Who won?" I asked.

"Yuri, the damn bear. Killed twenty. Alarick got fifteen. Alarick's men got about twenty out of the lot of them. They even kept one alive to talk. I don't know if that thing is still alive." He shakes his head.

"I'll call Alarick and Yuri. I'll make sure they're rewarded."

"This is why we love you man. You are most generous." Malcolm bows."Well, yours is hooked up on wolfsbane. Only way I could travel with that thing. Couldn't keep it in the territory. Got pups to think about. Sorry." Malcolm explains.

"I understand. Well done, Malcolm. Thank you very much for your help. Anything else you want, you just call me." I shake his hand.

"What's family for, right? You've always been there for me. Time I returned the favor. Oh, by the way, I kinda heard Yuri wants some organic stuff and salmon. You know bears. They love their salmon."

"I'll make sure he gets what he wants. David says your truck is full." I take a set of keys from the key cabinet of the garage room. "Here are your keys. Enjoy your new car, Malcolm." I hand him the keys and we pat each other on the back.

"My mate is gonna love this baby. Thanks Ulrich!" He gets into the driver's seat and smoothly exits the garage room out to the road that leads to the gate, the truck following him.

"Wow! He loves to talk and he's funny. His moustache even moves when he laughs." Hope follows the car with her eyes.

"You haven't met Alarick and Yuri yet. Talk about toilet humor," Mark said.

"What did he mean "yours is hooked up on wolfsbane"? Hope asked.

"The rogue they caught. Malcolm injected him with wolfsbane so he'll be weak. Won't cause trouble while travelling."

"Alpha, it isn't a he. It's a she," Mark said, through mind link.
